Chapter 235 Giving Advice
Elizabeth said, "Louis, if they feel at ease only after paying, then give the money to Ms. Johnson's family. After all, that plan was Ms. Johnson's hard work."
Louis nodded. "Yeah, I agree. I'll let him know."
He looked down, hesitating, which made Elizabeth curious. "Louis, what's up?" she asked.
Louis replied, "Carter's been asking to see you since he woke up. He wants to thank you in person."
Elizabeth said, "We were planning to visit him together after Christmas."
Louis took her hand. "Elizabeth, when you have time, let's go together."
Elizabeth nodded softly. "Sure."
Louis got serious. "We need to plan our visit to Carter carefully. We can't be followed. Even though he's been out of the spotlight for three years, he's still got a lot of fans waiting for his comeback. If anyone finds out about his condition, reporters and fans will swarm him. He won't get any peace."
Elizabeth said, "Louis, you're so thorough. I didn't think of all that."
Dean overheard and chimed in, "I heard Michael's hiring private detectives to find Carter's surgeon. I think he doesn't want Calla with him and Eloise anymore. He probably wants someone else to do Eloise's surgery."
Dean gave Elizabeth a knowing look.
Elizabeth scoffed. "He won't find out."
Louis looked a bit worried. "Elizabeth, are you sure?"
Elizabeth smiled. "Don't worry, Louis. Carter's already out of the hospital. His family promised not to say a word about me."
Louis wasn't as confident. "Let's hope so," he said.
He hesitated but finally asked, "Elizabeth, why don't you tell Michael you did Eloise's surgery? If he knew, he'd be really grateful."
He lowered his head, speaking softly. "If I'm not wrong, you still have feelings for him. Why not use this chance to be with him?"
Elizabeth took a sip of her wine, her cheeks flushed. She said, "Louis, do you think Michael loves Calla?"
Louis shook his head. "It's clear he doesn't."
Elizabeth smiled bitterly. "Yeah. Even someone as emotionally clueless as you can see that Michael doesn't love Calla. But he's still willing to be her boyfriend, sleep with her, get engaged, and have a kid with her."
Louis frowned. Did she just call him emotionally clueless?
He glanced at the half-drunk Elizabeth and smiled bitterly.
Who was really clueless?
Elizabeth was clueless about his feelings for her; maybe it was just because her heart was set on someone else.
Louis drank his orange juice, then poured himself a glass of wine.
He downed it in one gulp.
He thought, 'So bitter! No wonder they say drinking in sorrow is the worst.'
Elizabeth poured herself another glass. "Louis, if Michael knew I did Eloise's surgery, what do you think he'd do?"
She didn't wait for Louis to answer and continued, "I know. He'd invite me into his home and agree to all my requests. He'd give me a lot of money. He'd pretend to love me. He might even remarry me."
She looked at Louis, her eyes red. "Louis, do you think I'd value his feelings if he only loved me because of another woman?"
She downed her wine in one gulp, shaking her head firmly. "No way. I only want genuine feelings, no strings attached."
Hearing this, Louis felt a pang in his heart.
What Elizabeth said meant she hadn't given up on Michael at all.
Louis thought sadly, 'Michael hurt her over and over, but she still loves him.'
At Global Horizons International School, Eloise stood at the door of Nolan's old classroom, but Nolan was no longer there.
A teacher saw her standing outside through the glass and came out. "Hey, Eloise. Are you looking for Nolan?"
Eloise nodded. "Did Nolan change classrooms?"
The teacher said, "He withdrew from school. He's no longer at Global Horizons."
Eloise was stunned, and tears immediately rolled down her cheeks.
She thought, 'Nolan left school, why didn't he tell me? Aren't we friends?'
At Whispering Pines Estates, Pearl and Nolan had just gotten home when Eloise rang the doorbell.
Pearl called out, "Nolan, it's Eloise! She's outside!"
Nolan frowned. "Why is she here?"
Pearl said, "Nolan, Eloise must have something important!"
Nolan sat on the sofa, still looking at his picture book. "It's none of our business."
Pearl sat next to him, tugging at his sleeve. "Nolan, we agreed to be nicer to Eloise."
Nolan didn't say anything.
Clio accompanied Eloise inside as Pearl stood up and walked toward them. "Eloise, how did you find this place?" Pearl asked.
Eloise was happy to see Pearl willing to talk to her. She replied, "Clio came with me, we took a taxi."
Pearl asked, "Eloise, it's so late, why don't you go home? Won't Michael be worried about you?"
Eloise lowered her head, frowning, about to cry. "Michael said he wants Calla to do surgery on me. My head's gonna be cut open again. I'm scared. I don't want another surgery."
Pearl ran to Nolan's side. "Nolan, do something!"
Nolan put down the picture book, stood up, and said coldly, "Follow me."
Pearl happily held Eloise's hand and followed Nolan upstairs.
Clio called out anxiously from downstairs, "Ms. Thomas!"
Pearl turned back. "We're just going to Nolan's room."
So Clio sat downstairs waiting for them.
Not long after, the three of them came back downstairs.
Eloise sat for a while longer and then said goodbye. "Nolan, Pearl, goodbye!"
Pearl waved at her. "Bye, Eloise!"
Nolan didn't even look up. "Better not see each other again."
Clio accompanied Eloise, who left with her head down, and walked toward the gate.
On the way, they passed a children's playground.
This playground was built within the villa area, only for the residents.
Eloise stood there, not moving forward.
She stared blankly at the spaceship-shaped slide.
Clio said, "Ms. Thomas, it's getting dark, we should go home. If we go back too late, Mr. Thomas will be worried."
Eloise looked at Clio with pleading eyes. "Clio, I haven't been on a slide in a long time. Can I play for a bit, just for a while, please?"
Clio softened at her longing look and nodded.
She said, "Alright. You can play for five minutes, okay? I'll wait for you outside."
