Chapter 206 Five Million Dollars for One Night

Calla sat on the bed, hugging the quilt, staring at the door Michael had just closed behind him.

Did he really just leave like that?

After finding out that they had made love, he heartlessly abandoned her and left alone?

She had told him she liked him, but he didn't seem to care at all.

He didn't even come back to hold her or say a kind word.

Calla got out of bed and started getting dressed, her movements slow and deliberate.

She now knew exactly where she stood with Michael. He didn't have any feelings for her.

She knew he was still searching for a doctor to treat Eloise.

Once he found one, she would be completely irrelevant.

And this "girlfriend" title she got through deceit? It would vanish just as quickly.

If it weren't for Eloise needing her treatment, Michael would probably ignore her completely.

Calla thought, 'So what? I only care Michael's status and money, not his heart or his feelings.'

She wasn't like Margaret, who foolishly removed her uterus just to be with Michael.

Calla applied a bright red lipstick in front of the mirror and gave herself a cold smile.

So what if Michael didn't like her?

He believed they had slept together.

In the future, when she told him she was pregnant with his child, he wouldn't dare treat her badly.

Even if he and Elizabeth had feelings for each other, so what?

She was the one by his side, not Elizabeth.

Calla finished getting ready and called Anthony. "Anthony, my plan worked. I slept with your uncle."

Anthony was thrilled. "Wow, you actually did it! You're incredible! If you need anything, just let me know. I'll help you out."

Calla replied, "I'll come to you when I need something."

Anthony said, "Alright, I'm always here for you."

Calla hung up the phone.

If only Michael were like Anthony—always there when needed and gone when dismissed.

Calla sighed and left.

At the Thomas family mansion, Michael walked into the living room with a grim expression.

He told Susan to prepare hot water for a bath.

Susan was confused. Michael hadn't been home all night, and she had no idea where he had been. He didn't answer his phone either.

She wanted to tell him that Eloise had a nightmare and cried for a long time last night.

Eloise had gone to Michael's room and knocked on the door, but no one answered. She opened the door, found the room empty, and cried even harder.

Susan had tried to comfort Eloise, but it didn't work. Eloise only fell asleep from exhaustion.

Susan thought for a moment. Michael looked upset, so it was better not to bother him now. She would tell him later.

She went upstairs to prepare the bathwater.

Once it was ready, she informed Michael.

Michael soaked in the bathtub, slowly submerging his body.

As he bathed, he tried to recall the details of last night.

Even though he drank a lot, he wasn't completely out of it. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to get an erection.

Even if he mistook Calla for Elizabeth, he should have noticed the difference.

Last night, when he held her, it felt familiar.

But this morning, the woman beside him, lying naked in the same bed, was Calla.

Michael frowned deeply. He needed to find Elizabeth and figure out what was going on.

After finishing his bath, he changed clothes and went downstairs to grab a bite.

He pulled out his checkbook, signed his name, and called over a bodyguard. "Take this check to Moonlit Grove and give it to Calla."

The bodyguard took the check and left.

Michael finished his meal and was about to change his shoes and head out when Susan approached him. "Mr. Thomas, you should check on Eloise."

Michael's heart skipped a beat. "What happened to Eloise?"

Susan explained, "Eloise had a nightmare last night and woke up crying. She went to your room to find you, but you weren't there. She cried for a long time before falling asleep."

Michael frowned, feeling a wave of guilt wash over him.

He should have come home last night.

If he had, none of this would have happened. He wouldn't have ended up spending the night with Calla.

Michael turned and headed upstairs. "I'll go check on her."

He reached the second floor and entered Eloise's room.

Eloise was still lying in bed, tear stains visible under her eyes.

Michael walked over quietly, not wanting to wake her.

As soon as he sat down in the chair by the bed, Eloise opened her eyes.

"Michael, you're back?" she asked in a hoarse voice.

Michael's guilt hit him hard.

Eloise sat up, hugged him, and buried her head in his chest. "Michael, I was so scared when you weren't here."

Michael held her close, gently stroking her hair. "Eloise, did you have a nightmare?"

Eloise nodded in his embrace. "Michael, I dreamed of that person."

Michael's heart ached. This was Eloise's recurring nightmare.

He gently patted her, trying to comfort her. "Eloise, don't be afraid. It was just a dream. He's dead. He's gone forever. He'll never come back."

Eloise nodded. "I remembered that when I woke up. But during the nightmare, I didn't know. He kept hitting me. I couldn't run. It hurt so much. I couldn't find you. I was so scared. I could only cry."

Michael held her tighter. "I'm sorry, Eloise. I wasn't here last night. This won't happen again. From now on, I'll come home every night."

He promised her solemnly.

Eloise raised her slightly swollen face from crying and smiled at him.

At Moonlit Grove, the bodyguard handed the check to Calla. "Dr. Griffin, Mr. Thomas asked me to give this to you."

Calla took it, puzzled, and looked at it. "Five million dollars?"

She put down her coffee cup, widened her eyes, and asked the bodyguard, "Michael asked you to bring this?"

The bodyguard replied, "Yes, Dr. Griffin."

Calla couldn't believe it. "Just this?"

The bodyguard said, "Yes."

Calla asked again, "Nothing else?"

The bodyguard replied, "No."

Calla persisted, “Did he say anything else?”

The bodyguard replied, “No, he just asked me to deliver this. That's all. Unless you were hoping for more?”

Calla was about to lose her temper. "I am Michael's girlfriend, and you talk to me like this?"

The bodyguard rolled his eyes. "Elizabeth used to be  Mr. Thomas's wife, so what? Mr. Thomas doesn't care about either of you."

Calla suddenly became interested in what the bodyguard said. "What did you say? You talk to Elizabeth like this too? Michael doesn't care?"

The bodyguard said, "What's the big deal? It's all Mr. Thomas' orders. He even had me escort her to get an abortion! She was pregnant with his child back then."
