Chapter 50 Who Said I Like Her
Sarah's eyes went wide. "Wait, who's her sister? How do you know her? Why do you have beef with her? If you got issues with her sister, she might snitch to her brother, and he could come after you. You better watch your back, or he might mess you up without you even knowing. Rich men are always a step ahead."
Suprised at Sarah's sincere concern, Elizabeth nodded, "Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, too. I gotta mull it over before I hit him back. Anyway, spill the tea on David."
Sarah's face lit up. "Oh, things are going great with him lately."
Elizabeth smirked, "No wonder you've been ghosting me. You've been busy playing lovebirds!"
Sarah laughed, "Honestly, I had no clue David's sitting on $500 million. Maybe we haven't been together long enough for him to drop that bomb."
Elizabeth nodded, "We can chat about it later. Just enjoy the ride while you're still in school."
She was glad she switched gears, making Sarah forget to dig more about Margaret.
After dinner, they split up.
Sarah had a movie date with David.
After saying bye to Sarah, Elizabeth grabbed a cab back to the Thomas Mansion. As soon as she stepped into the living room, Matthew hollered, "Michael, your wife's back!"
Elizabeth almost tripped at the word "wife."
Michael rushed over and caught her.
Matthew chuckled, "Mrs. Thomas, you that hyped to see Michael? Miss him after just one day, huh?"
Elizabeth steadied herself and quickly put some space between her and Michael.
"Got a friend over?" she asked.
Michael shrugged, "Yeah, he just showed up."
Matthew grunted, "Mr. Thomas, you're so cold! We came to bring some life to this quiet house, what's wrong with that? Susan, is the food ready? We're starving here."
Susan called from the kitchen, "Almost done, Mr. Anderson. Have a seat and some tea, I'll bring it out soon."
Matthew turned to Elizabeth, "Mrs. Thomas, you just got back. Join us for dinner."
Elizabeth had just kicked off her shoes. "Nah, I'm good. I just ate at school."
"Then have a drink with Mr. Thomas," Matthew insisted.
Michael cut in, "She doesn't drink."
Matthew pushed, "Come on, just one drink won't hurt."
Elizabeth shook her head, "Sorry, I really can't. You guys go ahead. I gotta get back to my thesis. My advisor dumped a ton of feedback on me today."
As Elizabeth walked away, Matthew elbowed Michael. "Mr. Thomas, your wife doesn't seem as cold towards you as you say. I think she's got a thing for you."
Michael grumbled, "How do you figure? She's always talking about divorcing me."
Matthew smirked, "Didn't you see her blush when you caught her?"
Michael frowned, "What does blushing even mean?"
Matthew smirked, "You're dumb in love. She doesn't blush when she's talking to me, so that means she's got no feelings for me. And remember that time you got wasted? She came to pick you up right away and took care of you all night, didn't she?"
Michael snapped, "Took care of me? She just slept next to me all night and wouldn't wake up no matter what."
Matthew chuckled, "At least she tried."
"So what?" Michael grumbled.
"Come on, you like her. If she's got feelings for you, too, just put in a bit more effort, and she'll be head over heels," Matthew laughed.
"Who said I like her?"
"Stop frontin'. It's just us here."
Michael looked down, lost in thought, his fingers tracing the rim of his wine glass.
Did she really like him, too?
If she did, why was she still pushing for a divorce?
Was it because he made her lose their child?
Would she never forgive him for that?
But he wanted to be with her. How could he face her calmly when she was carrying someone else's child?
If she really had the baby, would he have to be the father? How could he deal with the constant reminder of her betrayal every day?
Unless he was out of his mind.
Elizabeth got back to her room, ready to crash.
Lately, between revising her thesis and dealing with group investments, she was totally burnt out.
She hadn't been sleeping well and felt on edge.
Just then, her phone rang sharply.
Her heart pounded ominously.
Elizabeth picked up the phone and saw it was Patricia calling.
Patricia still had the nerve to contact her?
Was she out of cash?
Wasn't she afraid Elizabeth would hold her accountable?
Elizabeth suppressed her disgust and answered the call.
Immediately, Patricia's shouting came through, "Elizabeth, did you steal Dad's Super Brain system? Give it back to me now!"
Elizabeth held the phone away from her ear.
She really didn't want to listen to this crazy woman.
It was bad for prenatal education.
Elizabeth said irritably, "Patricia, you still have the nerve to call me? Do you know your uncle falsified accounts and took all the company's funds? The Jones Group is now facing bankruptcy. If we can't find an investor, we'll have to liquidate and auction our assets. Do you know where he is?"
Patricia's voice was furious, "Don't give me that crap! He took the money, you can go find him! What does that have to do with me? I didn't tell him to take it! He didn't give me or my mom a penny! Elizabeth, stop talking nonsense! Give me back the Super Brain system! Now! Immediately!"
Patricia didn't sound right.
"Patricia, are you in trouble?" Elizabeth asked.
As soon as Patricia heard this, she started crying, "Elizabeth! Save Anthony! Only you can save him! They're going to cut off Anthony's fingers!"
Elizabeth was impatient, "Where are you? What happened?"
"We're in a casino, the one . Anthony lost a lot of money gambling. They want the Super Brain system. Otherwise, they'll cut off his fingers," Patricia cried loudly.
