Chapter 559 Killing Intent
Rufus was already freaking out. "Ms. Jones! Please, don't scare me like that!"
Elizabeth raised her hand and pointed to herself. "Me? Ms. Jones?"
Rufus was on the verge of tears. "Ms. Jones! No! I swear I'll never tease you or belittle you again! I won't even ask for a raise! Please, Ms. Jones, don't lose your memory!"
This grown man was about to break down, tears and snot all over his face.
"Ms. Jones, even if you forget me, it's okay. Just don't forget Rufus and Michael. Especially Michael. If you forget him, it'll be hard for you two to be together again."
Elizabeth couldn't help but laugh. "Rufus, you're still such a character."
Her laughter tugged at her wound, making her yelp in pain.
Rufus stopped crying and looked at Elizabeth, bewildered. "Ms. Jones, you didn't lose your memory?"
"Rufus, of course not. I was just messing with you."
Rufus let out a long sigh of relief and collapsed onto the floor.
"Ms. Jones! That's not funny! You nearly scared me to death! We're so far from home, if you lost your memory, how would I get you back to Aurora Bay?"
Elizabeth chuckled. "Don't worry, Rufus. I saw how nervous you were and couldn't resist playing a joke on you."
At Murphy Castle, Cordelia's residence.
In the bedroom, Cordelia was lying in bed. She looked a bit worn out, but she was in good spirits.
She reached out and gently touched her abdomen. There, a new life was growing.
Glenn had told her that the embryo had just been implanted in her uterus. He couldn't guarantee the embryo's development later on.
Cordelia was well aware of this. Pregnancy always came with many uncertainties.
A maid came in with a bowl of soup. "Ms. Murphy, here, drink this soup. It's good for you."
Cordelia sat up without hesitation, just about to take the bowl.
The maid stopped her. "Ms. Murphy, you just had surgery. Let me feed you. You just lie down."
Cordelia smiled at her and obediently lay back down. "I don't feel any discomfort with this embryo in me. Does that mean this child and I are meant to be?"
The maid smiled. "Of course. You're blessed. You wanted a child, and God sent you one. It couldn't have been easier."
She fed Cordelia a spoonful of soup, then her expression changed, becoming serious.
"Also, Ms. Murphy, the fewer people who know about the child in your belly, the better. Especially Elizabeth. She must never know the truth!"
Cordelia nodded. "I understand. What do you suggest I do?"
The maid continued feeding her soup while offering a sinister suggestion.
"In my opinion, Ms. Murphy, you should get rid of anyone who knows, to eliminate any future trouble!"
Cordelia frowned slightly. "You mean Glenn? But he helped me. Wouldn't that be ungrateful?"
The maid's eyes turned cold. "Ms. Murphy, great achievements require tough decisions. If you're kind to him today, he might be cruel to you tomorrow. He's so close to Elizabeth. What if he can't resist telling her everything?"
Cordelia's frown deepened. "Let me think about it."
Seeing her hesitation, the maid felt a pang of sympathy. She put the bowl down and gently smoothed Cordelia's furrowed brow.
"Ms. Murphy, don't frown like that. You'll get wrinkles! Don't worry about it. Leave everything to me. Glenn must die! As long as he's alive, he's a risk. I'll tell Zander to take care of it. That way, your hands will stay clean, not a drop of blood on them."
Cordelia bit her lip, lost in thought.
A maid outside the door knocked gently. "Ms. Murphy, Mr. Thomas is back."
Cordelia tensed up immediately, grabbing the maid's hand and whispering urgently.
"Why is Michael back suddenly? Isn't today Elizabeth's surgery? How could he resist not going to the hospital to see her? Did he find out something?"
The maid patted her hand gently. "Ms. Murphy, let's not scare ourselves. Mr. Thomas might have come back to check on you, knowing you're not feeling well."
Footsteps sounded outside. The next moment, Michael pushed the door open and entered. "Cordelia, I heard you're not feeling well?"
The maid immediately got off the bed and stood respectfully. "Mr. Thomas."
She was about to leave when Michael stopped her. "You don't need to go. I'm just checking on Cordelia. I'll leave soon. Mr. Murphy hasn't been discharged yet. I need to get back."
The maid turned slightly, looking at Cordelia.
Cordelia's face fell a bit when she heard he was leaving soon. "Alright, Michael. I'm fine. You go ahead."
Michael took a step closer and looked at her. "Cordelia, you don't look well. You need to rest."
Cordelia smiled and nodded. "The maid just fed me some soup."
Michael nodded at her and turned to leave.
After he left, the maid returned to Cordelia's side. "Ms. Murphy, did you see that? Mr. Thomas's mind isn't really on you anymore. He says he's going to the hospital to see Mr. Murphy, but who knows if he's really going to see Elizabeth?"
Cordelia's eyes darkened. "Bring me my phone. I need to call Zander."
The maid quickly fetched her phone. "Ms. Murphy, that's right! Don't hesitate! You've always been too soft and kind. As long as Elizabeth stays here, Mr. Thomas's heart will always be with her!"
Cordelia took the phone and opened her contacts. "Elizabeth's surgery is today. Even if she wants to leave, she'll need time to recover first."
After calling Zander, she sat up. "I'm feeling better. I want to go to the hospital to see Dad."
The maid helped her up. "Ms. Murphy, you're still a bit weak. Maybe you should wait a bit before visiting Mr. Murphy."
Cordelia shook her head. "I want to tell Dad to let Elizabeth leave Majestic City as soon as possible. There's no need to use her to keep Michael here anymore."
The maid understood. "You're going to tell Mr. Murphy that you're having Michael's child?"
Cordelia nodded. "Yes. As long as Elizabeth is here, Michael's heart will always be with her, and he won't want to come home."
She touched her abdomen. "When the baby is born, I'll tell Michael it's his child. He'll stay with me for the child's sake, right?"
The maid smiled. "Yes, Ms. Murphy, you've finally figured it out. I'll go with you to the hospital."
The maid helped Cordelia get dressed and put on makeup. "Ms. Murphy, did you tell Zander your plan?"
Cordelia looked at her reflection in the mirror and nodded slightly. "Yes, I did."
The maid asked, "Did he agree?"
Cordelia tilted her head back slightly. "Of course, he always listens to me."
