Chapter 32 He Doesn't Deserve to Die

Elizabeth scrunched up her face, totally baffled.

Anthony leaned in, whispering, "Look, you and me, we both got beef with Michael. He killed your kid and made my life hell. Why don't we team up and take him out?"

By the time he finished, Anthony's eyes had this deadly gleam.

Elizabeth was floored.

No matter how much she despised Michael, she couldn't bring herself to off him.

First off, murder was illegal.

Second, she didn't think Michael deserved to die.

But Anthony wasn't having it, "Elizabeth, head back to the Sunset Heights. Michael's got no clue about you. Slip some poison in his food. Once he's gone, no one's gonna mess with us. Plus, all his money? Ours."

Elizabeth stared at Anthony like he’d lost his mind.

Anthony thought she was actually mulling it over.

He kept going, all excited, "Elizabeth, once Michael's out of the picture, we can get hitched. You've always wanted to marry me after graduation, right? You're almost done with school, and my folks are cool with it. No one can stop us, and we'll be loaded."

Elizabeth shot him a frosty look, "Anthony, if Michael was that easy to kill, why don't you do it yourself?"

"I don't live with him. But you do, Elizabeth. You've got a better shot," he shot back.

"Have you thought about what will happen to me if I fail? " she fired back.

"Elizabeth, stop overthinking. My parents will handle the fallout."

"If they were so good at it, how'd you end up all banged up?"

"That was a fluke. Elizabeth, just listen..." Anthony reached out to grab her sleeve.

Elizabeth yanked her arm away, "Anthony, we were together for three years, and you never had the guts to go public. You said I wouldn't get close, but outside, you wouldn't even say I'm your girlfriend. Anthony, you're not a man. If you wanna deal with Michael, do it yourself. Don't drag me into it. If you wanna poison him, find your own chance. He eats at the Thomas Villa every week. You know that. I'm not doing anything illegal. And I'm done wasting time on you."

Anthony was left speechless.

She added, "And another thing, Anthony, no matter how much Michael sucks, he doesn't deserve to die. He's your uncle, for crying out loud. How can you be so cold?"

"I'm still his nephew, and he didn't think twice about screwing me over," Anthony sneered.

"Who told you to go after his woman while he was in a coma? It's a miracle he didn't chop off your hands."

"Elizabeth, you've changed. I see you're on Michael's side now."

"I'm not on anyone's side. I'm just being me. Take care." With that, Elizabeth pushed back her chair and walked out.

Elizabeth left the café and grabbed a cab to the hospital.

She headed straight to the gynecology clinic and found the doctor who did her surgery last time.

The doctor looked surprised to see her. After finishing up with her current patient, she asked Elizabeth to sit down.

Elizabeth's face said it all—she wasn't here for a social call.

The doctor looked away, "Mrs. Jones, your baby's still safe and sound. What brings you back?"

Elizabeth cut to the chase.

"I'm here for two things." She locked eyes with the doctor. "First, I need a check-up to make sure my babies are okay."

The doctor nodded right away, "No problem. What's the other thing?"

"Someone leaked my pregnancy records from this hospital. I wanna know who did it." Elizabeth leaned in, her stare intense.

The doctor sighed, "I really can't help with that. Our records are locked up tight. We take patient privacy seriously. I don't know how your info got out."

Elizabeth's voice turned icy, "Really? You don't know? How about I call the media and let everyone see how your hospital protects privacy?"

The doctor got flustered, "Mrs. Jones, please, don't be rash."

"It's not your privacy that got violated, and you weren't the one forced to consider an abortion. So yeah, you're indifferent." Elizabeth was fuming.

The doctor quickly tried to calm her down, "Mrs. Jones, please, don't get upset. I'll check with the relevant department."

Soon, the doctor came back.

"Mrs. Jones, do you recognize the woman in this surveillance video?" She pointed to her phone screen.

Elizabeth squinted. Wasn't that Margaret?

The doctor said, "The video clearly shows this woman stealing your records."

"She did do that in a breeze," Elizabeth said sarcastically.

The doctor quickly responded, "Mrs. Jones, we accept your criticism. I'll report this to my superiors."

Elizabeth got what she came for, then had a check-up to confirm her baby was fine and left the hospital.

Last time she left the hospital, she had run into Margaret. They had enjoyed a pleasant lunchtime together.

However, she never imagined Margaret hated her so much.

Margaret had told Michael her secret, leading him to pressure her into considering an abortion.

It seemed Margaret was determined to have Michael and wouldn't allow any other woman near him.

But Margaret underestimated Elizabeth.

Did Margaret think that just because Elizabeth appeared weak, she wouldn't fight back?

Elizabeth silently vowed that she would make Margaret pay the price.

Elizabeth left the hospital. She initially planned to return to Nancy's rented house, but on the way, she got a call from Charles, "Elizabeth, come to the office. There's been a change in the investment situation."

Elizabeth's hand shook as she held the phone.

She dreaded any changes in the investment.

"Okay, Mr. Wilson, I'll be there right away."

Elizabeth hailed a cab and rushed to The Jones Group.

Once inside, she took the elevator straight to the CEO's office. Charles was already there, looking anxious.

Elizabeth sat down and said, "Tell me, Mr. Wilson. What's going on with the investment?"

"Elizabeth, don't worry. Have some water first." Charles handed her a glass.

Elizabeth took it. After a busy day, she was indeed a bit thirsty.

After she finished drinking, Charles spoke, "There's been a change with David. He no longer wants to invest in our company. He wants to buy it outright."
