Chapter 120 Inviting Trouble In

Nolan shut his eyes. "It's nothing, Pearl. Just go to sleep."

But Pearl wasn't having it. "Nolan, what's bugging you?"

Nolan tried to push thoughts of Eloise out of his mind. She was Elizabeth's enemy, someone Michael cared about. Maybe she was even the reason Elizabeth and Michael split up.

Nolan opened his eyes and sat up. "Pearl, I gotta tell you something."

Seeing him sit up and his expression turned serious, Pearl did the same. "What is it?"

Nolan took a deep breath. "Mom got divorced today."

Pearl's eyes went wide. "What?" She gasped and quickly covered her mouth.

She glanced at the door and whispered, "Who did Mom divorce? We don't have a dad, right? Wait, isn't our dad Anthony?"

Nolan explained in a low voice, "It's not Anthony. Mom wrote that on purpose. I don't know why. Our dad is Michael. The guy who divorced Mom is also Michael. He's Anthony's uncle and has a thing with Eloise."

Pearl was confused. "Nolan, do you have a picture of Michael? I wanna see."

Nolan got out of bed, turned on the computer, and pulled up a photo of Michael.

Pearl smiled. "He's so handsome."

Nolan's voice turned cold. "But he's a jerk. He cheated on Mom. That's why she divorced him."

Nolan sighed and shut down the computer.

Pearl sighed too. "Mom's so unlucky, and so are we. Finding our dad is so hard!"

Elizabeth had been up all night taking care of Eloise, giving her fever meds, wiping her down with warm water, checking her temperature, and making sure she drank water.

Elizabeth, drowsy and exhausted, forced her eyes open to keep an eye on Eloise.

She fought off sleep while cursing Michael in her head, 'Why do I have to take care of your lover? You're ruining my sleep! Hurry up and come get her.'

At 6 AM, Eloise's fever finally broke.

Elizabeth, dead tired, went back to her room to catch some sleep. She had just dozed off when Pearl came in.

Pearl woke her up, frowning. "Mom, Eloise's forehead is really hot."

Elizabeth was puzzled. Didn't the fever just go down? It shouldn't come back so fast unless Eloise's immune system was messed up.

Dragging herself out of bed, Elizabeth went to check on Eloise.

She took her temperature—103.1°F.

Yep, Eloise still had a fever.

Elizabeth decided to take Eloise to the hospital right away.

If the fever kept up, her body wouldn't handle it.

Eloise started mumbling. "Brother, Eloise is scared. Where are you?"

Nolan and Pearl stayed by Eloise's side. Seeing her in pain, Nolan spoke softly, "Eloise, I'm here."

He couldn't just ignore her suffering.

Eloise, in a feverish daze, opened her eyes. Her vision was blurry, but she saw Nolan by her side.

Actually Nolan looked so much like Michael when he was young. In her feverish haze, Eloise mistook Nolan for young Michael.

A satisfied smile appeared on Eloise's lips. "It's so good to see you again. As long as you're here, Eloise isn't scared."

Elizabeth was racking her brain on how to get Eloise to the hospital.

Calling an ambulance was out of the question. That would draw too much attention to Eloise being at her place.

For the kids' sake, Elizabeth couldn't risk it.

Plus, Michael's online reward was too tempting. If people found out where Eloise was, it could attract all the wrong kinds of attention. Instead of helping, it could put her in more danger.

And if Michael got Eloise back, he'd just hand her over to Calla for treatment.

Louis had already said Calla's surgical skills weren't up to the task.

So, Michael taking Eloise back wouldn't help her at all right now.

After thinking it over, Elizabeth decided to take Eloise to the hospital herself.

She put aside her identity as Michael's ex-wife and Eloise's as her rival.

Right now, she was just a doctor with a patient.

As a doctor, Elizabeth couldn't just stand by and do nothing.

She grabbed her phone. After a brief conversation, she hung up.

She changed Eloise's clothes and tied a bright scarf in her hair.

Soon, an ambulance without sirens showed up at the villa's gate.

The paramedics quietly lifted Eloise onto a stretcher. They were all well-trained and silent.

Elizabeth left the house, got in her car, and followed the ambulance to the hospital.

Eloise was taken into a special operating room.

Elizabeth, fully prepped, entered the operating room. She was going to perform the craniotomy on Eloise herself.

The surgery was delicate and time-consuming. Elizabeth hoped she could hold on.

Meanwhile, Margaret went to see Calla. They sat in the yard, sipping tea.

This was a mansion Michael had set up just for Calla.

It had servants, drivers, and bodyguards, all at Calla's beck and call 24/7.

Seeing all this, Margaret felt a bit uneasy. Rumor had it that Calla had become Michael's girlfriend.

Margaret took a sip of wine and cursed herself inwardly. She'd really messed up back then. She'd found Calla abroad, thinking she could get her to help Michael. But Calla was so greedy, wanting to become Michael's girlfriend.

Margaret asked attentively, "Ms. Griffin, who is this person Michael asked you to treat?"

Calla gave her a polite smile, "It's all over the internet, Ms. Taylor. Don't you know? Why ask me?"

Margaret said, "I know it's Eloise. I just want to know what her relationship with Michael is, that he'd go to so much trouble and expense."

Calla elegantly sipped her wine. "Ms. Taylor, you should ask Michael yourself." She gave Margaret a faint glance.

Margaret lowered her head in disappointment. "I have no standing to ask him. I'm not that close to him. He wouldn't let me interfere in his personal affairs."

Calla looked at Margaret. "Ms. Taylor, why would you think Michael would tell me about this? My job is just to treat Eloise. As for who Eloise is to Michael, that's not my concern. It's not something I should ask about. If you're curious, ask him yourself. No need to go through me."
