Chapter 232 Hope

Michael drove Elizabeth back to Whispering Pines Estates and then stopped the car to call Dean. "She's in the car. Come get her."

Dean rushed over as soon as he heard.

Dean looked at her with heartache as Elizabeth sat in the car, looking lifeless.

He opened the car door, unbuckled her seatbelt, and helped her out. "Elizabeth, please, don't be like this, okay? Look at me, look at Nolan and Pearl. We're all still here with you! And we always will be. You're not alone. I know you can't accept Nancy's passing. I'm heartbroken too. I just beg you, don't harm yourself like this. If you keep going like this, you won't be able to hold on."

At the Thomas family mansion, Mary sent a driver and some servants to bring Calla to the house. In the living room, Mary beamed with joy as she held Calla's hand.

"Calla, I really like you more and more. Michael is so lucky to have you. You're graceful, serene, and humble—a truly wonderful person. When you safely give birth to Michael's child, I will have no regrets."

Calla smiled at her. "Thank you, Mrs. Thomas, for liking me. It's my honor. I was quite bored alone at Moonlit Grove, and I'm so happy that you let me stay here to keep you company."

Mary instructed the servants beside her. "From now on, Calla will be living here. You must take good care of her needs and not slack off in the slightest. Understood?"

The servants responded in unison, "Understood."

Calla smiled silently to herself, thinking she was now one step closer to her goal.

Over the weekend, as usual, it was time for the Thomas family to gather for a meal at the mansion. When Michael saw Calla, he was taken aback. "What are you doing here?" he asked.

Calla's expression stiffened. She didn't expect Michael to be so hostile towards her.

William came over to smooth things over.

"Michael, why are you being so harsh with Ms. Griffin? Mom invited her here," he said.

Mary heard the commotion and came over as well.

She pulled Calla close behind her. "Michael, Calla is expecting and shouldn't be overexerting herself. I was concerned about her being alone at Moonlit Grove, so I brought her here to ensure she's well taken care of. We can't risk another scare like the last time she fainted. With her here, I can keep an eye on her every day and be at ease. After all, she's carrying my precious grandchild!"

Michael stared intently at Calla, then turned to Mary and said, "Who said she could keep the baby?"

Mary looked at him. "Michael, this time I can't let you mess around. Calla is far along, and an abortion would be very harmful to her body. I will ensure she safely delivers this baby."

Michael sneered. "So, I don't have the right to express my opinion anymore, do I? You're just forcing a child on me?"

William interjected, "Michael, listen to yourself. You're not young anymore. Aren't you looking forward to being a dad?"

Michael turned to him and said, "What does this have to do with you?"

Mary tugged at Michael and said, "Michael, there are a lot of people here today. Let's have dinner first, and we can talk about this later."

Suddenly, Michael's phone rang.

Seeing it was the private detective calling, he stepped aside to answer.

"Mr. Thomas," the private detective began.

"Speak," Michael responded.

The private detective asked, "Do you know Carter?"

Michael frowned. "A washed-up entertainment star. I don't pay much attention to him."

The private detective said, "That's not the point. Three years ago, Carter had a stage accident, fell, and suffered brain damage. He's been bedridden ever since. His family has been relentlessly searching for a doctor to save him, but every hospital and doctor has declared that he will remain in a vegetative state forever."

"And then?" Michael asked.

The private detective's voice grew excited. "Mr. Thomas, I got the news. Carter has woken up, even though all the hospitals had declared him a hopeless case!"

It was unbelievable. Michael unconsciously gripped his phone tightly.

He was thrilled. "What did you say? Is the news confirmed?"

The private detective said, "Mr. Thomas, you heard right. It's all true."

"Can you find Carter's attending physician?" Michael asked.

The private detective replied, "We'll do our best."

"Could it be the final and most important disciple of Ms. Johnson that was mentioned before?"

The private detective responded, "Possibly. We'll contact you as soon as we get any information."

After hanging up the phone, he glanced at Calla, who was sitting beside Mary, looking gentle and obedient.

He thought, 'It definitely isn't her.'

If Carter had been cured by her, she would have told Michael long ago.

Michael hoped the detectives could make progress quickly.

Eloise couldn't wait forever.

Michael returned to the dining table and took his seat.

Calla sat next to him and gently leaned closer to him. "Michael, now that Christmas is over, Eloise's surgery can be scheduled."

She had overheard fragments of Michael's phone call, and from what he said, it seemed he was officially looking for a new doctor to treat Eloise.

This made her anxious; if Michael found a suitable doctor before she could secure her position, he would definitely abandon her.

Michael continued eating and replied, "Take care of yourself first."

Calla anxiously grabbed his sleeve. "I'm fine; I can handle it."

Michael silently pulled his sleeve back and continued eating.

Calla still didn't give up. "Michael, there's one more thing I need to tell you. My father and I know you don't like Jennifer, so my father has broken up with her. Our family has no relationship with her anymore."

When Michael heard this, he thought that Elizabeth could finally stop hating him.

After all, she once thought Jennifer would be his future mother-in-law.

At that moment, William said, "Michael, Mom's birthday is coming up. How about we host the party here? The garden is spacious enough, and the guests can take a stroll around it after dinner."

Michael replied, "Okay."

He was absent-minded, still thinking about Carter.

He sent a text to Daniel: [Help me get in touch with Carter or his family.]

Daniel's reply came quickly: [Mr. Thomas, Carter seems to have disappeared. We can't get ahold of him or his family.]

Meanwhile, Elizabeth received a call from the police station. They informed her that the truth about the car accident had been uncovered—it was indeed a deliberate murder.

Yet the mastermind behind it was Kieran.

Elizabeth couldn't believe it.

She said, "Officer, there must be a mistake. Isn't Kieran still in prison? How could he hire someone to kill? There must be something fishy about this. The real mastermind must be someone else!"

But the other party had already hung up.

Not long after, Jennifer called.

Seeing Jennifer's name on the screen, Elizabeth's eyes were filled with rage.

"Jennifer, how dare you call me?" she spat.

Jennifer's voice was filled with endless smugness. "Elizabeth, why wouldn't I dare? You didn't expect this outcome, did you? I told you, you would pay the price! I want you to regret your arrogance back then!"
