Chapter 254 Wedding Dress
Elizabeth thought, 'Dean, you really get Michael!'
She looked down, feeling a bit down. "Dean, don't worry about me. You should focus on getting along with Daniel," she said.
Mentioning Daniel jogged Dean's memory.
"Elizabeth, when I called Daniel the other day, he mentioned he found out something about Jennifer," Dean said.
Elizabeth's interest was piqued.
"What did he find out?" she asked.
Dean replied, "She sold all her shares in her old company and came back with the money. She's planning to compete with you in the robotics industry."
Elizabeth scoffed, "Did she even do any market research? Why does she always have to compete with me?"
Dean gave her shoulder a reassuring pat. "No matter what she does, I've got your back!"
Over at the Thomas mansion, Mary was on the phone in her room. "I need a sample of Nolan's hair. I don't care how you get it, just don't hurt him. And hurry up."
The person on the other end seemed hesitant.
Mary, annoyed, continued, "I paid you a lot, and you can't even handle this?"
Servant Hestia was nearby and noticed Calla at the door. Walking over, Hestia greeted, "Dr. Griffin, you're out of the hospital?"
Calla nodded. "I'm here to see Mrs. Thomas."
Hestia glanced at Mary, then back at Calla. "Mrs. Thomas is still on the phone. You can wait in the living room."
Calla smiled and headed downstairs.
After her call, Mary was helped out of the room by Hestia.
Hestia said, "Mrs. Thomas, Calla is in the living room."
Mary paused, then said, "I'll go see her."
In the living room, Mary sat on the sofa, eyeing Calla.
"Calla, why not stay in the hospital a bit longer? Are you feeling better?" she asked.
Calla bowed slightly. "Mrs. Thomas, I'm much better now. Staying in the hospital was getting boring, so it's good to be out," she replied.
Mary said, "Michael must be really busy lately. Otherwise, he would've been at the hospital with you."
Calla sneered inwardly. She had lost the baby, Mary was cold to her, and Michael never cared—he didn't even visit. Staying at the mansion would just be awkward.
She smiled politely at Mary. "Mrs. Thomas, I came to pack my things. I'm moving out today."
Mary was taken aback.
"Calla, no one in the Thomas family is pushing you out. Even though you lost the baby, you're still Michael's fiancée. Why move out? Isn't it better to stay here?" she said.
Calla kept her smile. "Mrs. Thomas, I've been imposing by staying here. It's time for me to move out," she said.
She stood up. "I came to say goodbye, Mrs. Thomas."
Mary grabbed her hand. "Calla, I really like you. You often came by to chat with me, and I enjoyed that. You're always welcome here. But Eloise still needs your care for her treatment!"
Calla thought, 'Mary, you're still being so polite to me, but it's probably just for Eloise's treatment, right?'
She politely said goodbye and left with her luggage.
In the taxi, she reflected on Mary's phone conversation. She had overheard it while on the staircase.
Mary must have met Nolan and got suspicious about his background, so she wanted to do a paternity test.
Calla touched her now flat belly.
Her child was gone, and Mary had lost hope in her.
If Mary found out Nolan was her biological grandson, she'd probably adore him.
When that happened, Mary would forget all about Calla.
Toby had set up dinner with her, and Jennifer had come back and made up with him. At the restaurant, Calla looked at the glowing Jennifer and said, "Ms. Johnson, you look even more stunning with time."
Jennifer smiled at Toby.
"Toby's love has been my best beauty treatment. Love is the best makeup for a woman," she replied.
Calla's smile wavered as Toby quickly handed her the menu.
"Let's order first. See if there's anything you like," Toby said.
But Jennifer didn't catch Toby's hint.
"Calla, I heard Michael left you at the engagement ceremony?" she asked.
Toby coughed loudly, but Jennifer didn't stop.
"Calla, love is important, but don't let it blind you. Didn't Michael give you a substantial amount of money? You should invest it wisely and grow your assets. That way, you can justify the investment you've made in him," she continued.
Calla thought, 'I didn't invest anything in him, I was just playing a role.'
But she was curious, how did Jennifer know so quickly that Michael gave her money?
She glanced at Toby, who, catching her questioning look, awkwardly lowered his head.
Calla realized that Toby was completely smitten with Jennifer, telling her everything.
"I do have some spare money. I'm not great at managing finances. Ms. Johnson, do you have any suggestions to increase its value?" Calla asked.
Jennifer responded, "That's my specialty. If you trust me with the money, I guarantee you'll earn a high return, much better than any bank interest."
"Are you that confident?" Calla asked.
"Of course. I came back to have a showdown with Elizabeth. I won't rest until I beat her. I've re-registered a tech company and invested all my assets," Jennifer replied.
Calla's lips curled. She thought, 'Good, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.'
She then extended her hand to Jennifer.
"Here's to a successful partnership, Ms. Johnson!" she said.
In the bridal shop, Sarah was trying on a wedding dress in the fitting room while Elizabeth helped arrange the hem.
"Sarah, you look absolutely beautiful in this," Elizabeth said.
Sarah beamed. "Elizabeth, I picked one for you too. Go try it on!"
Elizabeth smiled and shook her head.
"I'm not getting married, why try on a wedding dress?" she said.
Sarah grabbed her arm and shook it. "Elizabeth, just try it on. I really want to see you in a wedding dress. I once dreamed of us taking wedding photos together. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. You left the country so quickly."
Elizabeth also reminisced about the past, feeling a bit sentimental.
"Alright. I'll fulfill your wish," she said.
Sarah jumped up happily.
Elizabeth quickly held her down. "Be careful. You're wearing high heels!"
Sarah urged Elizabeth to change quickly.
The shop assistant handed Elizabeth the wedding dress Sarah had picked out.
Elizabeth took off her clothes and put on the wedding dress.
Seeing this, Sarah covered her mouth in amazement.
"Elizabeth, I'm used to seeing you in loose clothes. I knew you had a good figure, but I didn't realize it was this good! I wonder which man will be lucky enough to marry you. I'm so envious of your figure!" she said.
