Chapter 119 Why Do I Feel Like You Dislike Eloise?
Elizabeth finished washing up and plopped down on her bed, scrolling through her phone.
A news alert caught her eye. She tapped on it. It was a missing person notice from Michael.
Anyone with info about Eloise could snag $300 million. For those who could find Eloise, they would be rewarded $500 million.
Elizabeth stared at Eloise’s picture on her phone. Eloise looked so sweet and innocent in her pink princess dress, even as an adult.
Elizabeth thought she’d never feel sad again, but her heart ached.
She closed the page, trying to push away the bad thoughts. But they kept creeping back.
A $500 million reward? That showed how much Eloise meant to Michael.
He’d always kept Eloise hidden, probably scared people would find out something was off about her. Now that she was missing, he had no choice but to go all out. With that kind of money, someone was bound to find a clue and tell Michael.
This move might help find Eloise, but it also put her in the spotlight.
Wouldn’t people start questioning her relationship with Michael? Maybe Michael was ready to go public with his feelings for Eloise.
Elizabeth knew she was never in Michael’s heart. It was always Eloise.
Michael was devoted, but not to Elizabeth.
Elizabeth let out a bitter laugh, pulled up the covers, and tried to sleep.
Her phone rang, startling her. It was Sarah.
Elizabeth answered, "Hey, Sarah."
Sarah sounded both excited and angry, "Elizabeth, I saw Michael’s missing person notice."
Sarah went on, "He has the nerve to post Eloise’s photo like that. What does that make you look like? You two are still technically married. Isn’t this humiliating?"
Elizabeth replied softly, "No. We finalized our divorce this morning. We’re not married anymore. He can look for whoever he wants."
Sarah fumed, "Michael is such a jerk! He just went public today! Who knows what he was doing before? He cheated on you! Elizabeth, you really went through hell. David, Matthew, they should all get it now. They misunderstood you so much before, but now they know the truth."
"None of that matters," Elizabeth said calmly, "From now on, Michael’s business is none of mine. Whoever he likes, whoever he’s with, it’s not my concern."
Sarah said, "Elizabeth, I just want to hug you right now. You must be so sad. You were married for four years, and he was unfaithful the whole time."
Elizabeth said, "I’m okay. Thanks, Sarah. You’ve always had my back."
Sarah smiled, "Of course, you’re my best friend. I asked David, and he didn’t even know about Eloise. Michael kept it under wraps for years."
Elizabeth nodded, "Yeah, he didn’t let anyone know about Eloise."
Sarah cursed, "Is he a pervert? Elizabeth, it’s good you divorced him. Even if you hadn’t, I’d have persuaded you to do it tomorrow! Why keep a jerk around? The farther he fucks off, the better! So, Elizabeth, tomorrow I’m treating you to a big meal to celebrate your freedom!"
Elizabeth said, "Sure thing. But I'll treat you. Gotta celebrate my new gig as a boss."
Sarah sounded confused, "Wait, what?"
Elizabeth explained, "I bought the Jones Group building, rehired the old crew, and I'm bringing the Jones Group back to life."
Sarah teased, "Whoa! Elizabeth, you're a total badass! Should I start calling you Ms. CEO now?"
Elizabeth chuckled at Sarah's playful tone, "Alright, Sarah, you should get some sleep too. David's probably waiting for you."
Sarah said sweetly, "Okay, goodnight, Elizabeth. Love you."
"Goodnight." Elizabeth put her phone aside, trying to ignore everything else.
Right now, she was exhausted. All she wanted was sleep.
Margaret also saw the missing person notice. She looked at the picture of Eloise in the princess dress. It felt oddly familiar.
She suddenly remembered that four years ago, Elizabeth had once set her up.
Elizabeth had told her that the woman Michael liked wore princess-style dresses.
When she showed up in front of Michael dressed like that, he had been furious.
At the time, she thought Elizabeth had done it to mess with her.
But now, she realized Elizabeth hadn't lied.
The woman in Michael's heart really did look like that.
In his mind, only Eloise could pull off that look. He wouldn't let any other woman imitate her.
Back then, Margaret had even been jealous of Elizabeth.
Now, thinking back, she felt ridiculous.
She had been by Michael's side for over a decade, yet she never knew he had someone else in his heart.
She had foolishly waited for him, hoping he'd notice her and see her love.
Margaret laughed through her tears in the empty room. He had never cared for her!
Pearl was startled awake at 3 AM.
Eloise, who was sleeping next to her, was moaning in pain.
Pearl sat up and gently touched Eloise, asking, "Eloise, what's wrong? Are you having a nightmare?"
Eloise kept moaning.
Pearl turned on the light. She saw Eloise's tightly furrowed brows, looking really pained.
Pearl gently touched Eloise's forehead. The burning temperature scared her.
Pearl ran out of the room to find Elizabeth.
Elizabeth was in a deep sleep until woken up by Pearl.
She groggily walked into Pearl's room and glanced at the clock on the wall.
She turned to Pearl and said, "Pearl, go to Nolan's room and sleep with him. Mommy will stay with Eloise."
Pearl clutched her small pillow, looking back at Eloise with every few steps, her eyes filled with worry. Despite her concern, she obediently went to find Nolan.
Pearl climbed into Nolan's bed and lay down next to him.
Nolan groggily asked, "Pearl, why are you here?"
Pearl replied, "Eloise has a fever. Mommy is taking care of her. Mommy told me to sleep in your room."
Nolan comforted her, "Yeah, Mommy probably doesn't want your sleep to be disturbed."
"Eloise is feeling really bad. I heard her calling for something." Pearl turned to look at Nolan, "Nolan, was she calling for you?"
Nolan muttered, "I don't know. Anyway, I can't help her with anything. Mommy's a doctor; she'll take good care of her. You don't need to worry."
Pearl asked, a bit confused, "Nolan, why do I feel like you don't like Eloise?"
