Chapter 44 The Three-Month Divorce Plan

Michael trudged downstairs to check on the different departments, then headed back to his office.

Daniel and Matthew spotted him and immediately straightened up.

Michael stormed into the office, looking all icy, and plopped down without a word.

Matthew quickly jumped in, "Hey Michael, Samuel Taylor's back. How about we hit the bar tonight to welcome him?" Michael didn't even glance up from his file, "You guys go ahead. I'm out."

Matthew pressed on, "Come on, man. It's been ages since you had a drink with us. Let's chill with Samuel."

Samuel was Margaret's brother.

The Taylor Family's business was in Atheria, not here.

Samuel didn't swing by Aurora Bay often.

Michael rubbed his temples, "We'll see tonight."

When it was time to clock out in the afternoon, Michael still headed back to the Thomas Mansion like usual.

He figured it wasn't worth staying mad at Elizabeth over yesterday's petty stuff.

The real kicker was he didn't even know why he was so ticked off.

Michael strolled into the villa, changed in his room, and sat down in the dining room to eat.

Susan set the food and softly asked, "Mr. Thomas, shall I call Mrs. Thomas for dinner?"

Michael looked up, surprised, "Elizabeth's home? She didn't go out?"

Susan replied, "Mrs. Thomas stayed in her room all day. She might be tired and fell asleep. Mr. Thomas, should I go check on her?"

Michael put down his utensils and stood up, "No need, I'll go check."

Michael gently pushed open Elizabeth's door and found her asleep at the desk.

How tired was she? Michael thought to himself.

He gently picked her up and placed her on the bed.

He then went back to shut down the laptop on the desk. As soon as he touched the mouse, the screen lit up.

Elizabeth's desktop was clean, with only a few folders, probably for her thesis.

Michael wondered if her thesis was giving her trouble. It had been ages, and she still hadn't finished it.

Michael opened the last folder, which contained only one document.

The title was Divorce Plan Within Three Months.

The words hit Michael like a punch.

Inadverdently, he clicked to open the document.

It contained only one sentence, [I must divorce Michael by the end of this year.]

Michael looked at the document's creation date—it was last night.

Unconsciously, Michael clenched his fists tightly.

Yesterday, he had gone to great lengths to ask her out on a date.

But she was thinking about how to divorce him.

Does she hate him that much?

Michael slammed Elizabeth's laptop shut, wheeled around, and scuttered out of her room.

Susan looked at Michael in shock.

This morning, Michael had left the house looking upset, but after a day at the office, he had calmed down considerably. Now, after coming out of Elizabeth's room, his face was dark again. It seemed Michael's mood swings were all related to Elizabeth.

Susan sighed inwardly.

When would Elizabeth finally get that Michael's all in for her?

Michael skipped dinner, stormed straight to his room upstairs, and called Matthew, "Didn't you say we were hitting the bar? Where we at?"

Matthew quickly responded, "Michael, you changed your mind? We're all at The Last Drop. Come over, Samuel's here too."

Michael headed downstairs and asked Joshua to drive him to The Last Drop.

Susan caught up and asked, "Mr. Thomas, you heading out this late?"

Michael replied as he walked out, "Yeah, you can chill. No need to wait up for me. Oh, and save some food for her."

Susan sighed inwardly again.

No matter how pissed Michael was at Elizabeth, he still thought about her.

Only Elizabeth couldn't see how much Michael cared for her.

At The Last Drop, the waiter led Michael to the private room where Matthew and the crew were.

Samuel stood up and handed Michael a drink as he walked in, "Michael, long time no see. You've been a ghost lately. Have a drink first."

Michael took the glass and downed it in one go before even sitting down.

Samuel asked, "What's up, Michael? You seem off today."

Matthew whispered, "Michael's love life's a mess. His wife doesn't get him."

Samuel looked at Michael with an unreadable expression, "Michael, I'm here in Aurora Bay on my parents' orders to bring Margaret home. But no matter how many times I asked, she refused to leave. Michael, I know she's staying in Aurora Bay because of you."

Michael looked up at him, "Oh, really? Samuel, if it weren't for you, I wouldn't have put up with Margaret for so many years. I've told her I'm not into her at all. Since you're here today, take her back to Atheria!"

Michael picked up his phone and called Margaret.

The call was answered immediately, "Michael, you finally called me."

Margaret was super excited.

But Michael's voice was icy, "Margaret, you're fired from the company. Go to HR tomorrow to collect your salary. Then go back to Atheria with Samuel."

Margaret was stunned for a moment, then shouted, "Michael, don't make me leave! Samuel must have talked to you, right? Don't listen to him. I won't leave you!"

Michael replied expressionlessly, "That's your family's business, not mine."

Then he decisively hung up.

Samuel sat on the couch, quietly watching Michael.

He asked, "Michael, I heard you're in a relationship. Aren't you married? Who are you dating? I haven't heard anything about it."

Matthew whispered from the side, "Who else but Elizabeth."

Samuel frowned slightly, "Michael's wife?"

Matthew nodded, "Mr. Taylor, even though you're in Atheria, you seem well-informed about things here."

Samuel downed a glass of wine and said softly, "It's because Margaret always talks about Michael whenever we chat. I have no choice but to listen. Who would've thought Michael likes this type."

Matthew said, "It's personal preference, I guess."

Samuel replied, "Yeah, I always knew Margaret wasn't Michael's type. I've tried to persuade her, but she's too stubborn to listen. She's liked Michael for so many years, it's not easy to let go."
