Chapter 384 You Can End Her Now
Dean shook his head. "Nope. This is the replacement for Nancy that Margaret ordered. She placed the order but hasn't gotten it yet."
Daniel's eyes widened. "Oh my God! What's Margaret up to?"
Dean looked at him. "Daniel, think about it. If you were Margaret, what would you do?"
A shiver ran down Daniel's spine. "She'd use Elizabeth's feelings. She'd have this person manipulate Elizabeth."
Dean nodded. "Exactly, and probably more than that."
He grabbed his laptop. "I'm gonna find Michael and spill everything. We had our suspicions before, but now we have proof. Margaret can be taken down. It just depends on whether Michael is ready to cut her loose."
He carried the laptop and knocked on Elizabeth's door. "Elizabeth, are you asleep?"
Elizabeth replied, "No, but come in if you need something."
Dean pushed the door open. "Michael, we need to talk."
Elizabeth looked at him, her eyes saying, 'Finally, you're not after Daniel.'
Dean patted her shoulder. "I'm not here to steal your man."
He approached Michael. "I told you before about Margaret accessing the dark web. I have the proof now. It's all here. Take your time to look through it."
"Calla's blindness, her suicide, Octavia's appearance and disfigurement, Elizabeth's premature birth, Sarah's kidnapping—all of it was caused by Margaret. You can end her now."
Michael's face darkened, and his fists clenched tighter as he reviewed the evidence.
He slammed the laptop shut and growled, "I'm gonna make her pay! She deserves to die! If it weren't for her, Francis wouldn't have been born prematurely and wouldn't be in critical condition!"
Elizabeth asked softly but firmly, "Are you really willing to go through with it?"
Michael looked hurt. "You don't believe me?"
Elizabeth tidied up the bed. "What have you done to make me believe you?"
Michael frowned. "I told you, I'll raise the child with you. I'll always be there for you."
Elizabeth's expression remained cold. "Trust isn't built on words, but actions."
She finished making the bed and lay down, pulling the covers over herself.
Michael noticed there was only one pillow and one blanket on the bed, clearly indicating Elizabeth had no intention of sharing the bed with him.
Michael turned and left the room, heading downstairs to call Margaret.
He was seething with anger.
The phone rang for a long time before Margaret answered. "Michael? What made you call me?"
"Where are you?"
"Michael, you shouldn't care about me anymore. So, you don't need to know where I am."
Michael struggled to keep his anger in check. "Margaret, don't make me repeat myself: where are you?"
Margaret chuckled. "Michael, did you always boss me around because you knew I liked you? Does it bother you when I don't obey? Too bad. If I had realized this sooner, I would have enjoyed seeing you lose control over me."
With that, Margaret hung up. Michael hadn't expected her to ever hang up on him.
He was so furious he nearly smashed his phone.
He kept dialing Margaret's number over and over.
Finally, the call connected.
Michael didn't waste a second. "Margaret, are you looking to die?"
A man's voice responded. "Michael, what did my sister do to you? Why do you want her dead?"
Michael's eyes narrowed. "Samuel? You got the nerve to show up?"
Samuel's voice wavered slightly but he stood firm. "Michael, I know I wronged you back then. But you and Elizabeth are fine, right? You're both alive and well."
Michael wasn't having it. "Samuel! Shut up! If Elizabeth hadn't saved me, I'd be dead on that mountain!"
Samuel, thinking of the leverage he had, steadied himself. "Michael, what do you want with Margaret?"
"Why don't you ask Margaret what vile things she's done recently? She killed my ex-girlfriend and framed Elizabeth. She kidnapped Elizabeth's friend, causing my son to be born prematurely. My son could have been born healthy, but now he's in the ICU! Samuel, tell me, shouldn't I kill her to avenge my son and the other victims?"
Samuel glanced at Margaret, who was curled up on the couch. "I believe everything you're saying. And I believe that even if you kill her, you won't face any legal consequences, right?"
Michael was momentarily stunned.
Samuel continued, "Because you have a get-out-of-jail-free card. You can kill without facing punishment. But you're afraid of people finding out, aren't you, my friend?"
Michael's fists clenched tighter. "Samuel, do you know what you're saying?"
Samuel's voice was calm. "Did I hit the mark? So, Michael, how about we make a deal? You let Margaret go. Let her leave the past behind and start anew. I won't let her bother you again. I won't even let her return to Celestria."
"Why should I let her off so easily? After everything she's done, who could resist killing her?"
"I'll take her far away from you. I won't reveal your condition. As long as you let her go."
Samuel continued, "Of course, you could go down with me, but you can't just think about yourself. You have to think about your children. And Elizabeth. Will they accept a father with a mental illness? Will the Aurora Bay business community accept a leader with a mental illness?"
Michael couldn't argue.
Samuel was right; he had hit Michael's weak spot. Even if he didn't care about himself, he had to think about Nolan, Pearl, and Elizabeth. He didn't want his children to be mocked at school for having a mentally ill father.
He hung up the phone and walked back to Elizabeth's room, lying down on the couch.
Elizabeth hadn't fallen asleep; she heard him come back.
Wasn't he going to get revenge on Margaret? Why did he come back so quietly? Had he already taken his revenge?
In the darkness, she asked, "Did you go to find Margaret?"
Michael's voice was filled with exhaustion. "No. She's abroad with Samuel."
Hearing Samuel's name, Elizabeth paused, then remembered who he was—Margaret's brother, who had once deceived her.
Elizabeth opened her eyes, her voice cold. "And? You're not going to get revenge? Are you afraid of Samuel?"
