Chapter 57 Impress Him
Margaret felt a sudden wave of sympathy when she heard Samuel say, "Samuel, you concern is misplaced. Michael hasn't done anything wrong to me. I like him, okay?"
Seeing how head over heels she was, Samuel felt gripped by disappointment.
He got up and said, "Alright, let's go. I'll take care of the bill."
At the Sunset Heights, in the dining room, Michael and Elizabeth were having dinner.
Michael's phone buzzed. He picked it up, and Matthew's voice came through, "Michael, I gotta tell you something!"
Michael sighed, "I'm eating. Make it quick."
Matthew, all excited, said, "Michael, did you know? Samuel's been all over Elizabeth lately! Every day, he sends flowers to her office at The Jones Group. I even heard he got his secretary to book concert, theater, and movie tickets for her, and he's been inviting her to art exhibitions, too."
Hearing this, Michael stopped eating and looked at Elizabeth across the table.
As if oblivious to the unfolding scene, Elizabeth continued to methodically eat the food on her plate.
Michael put down his fork and said into the phone, "Are you done?"
Matthew quickly replied, "Nope, not yet."
He chuckled, "This time, Samuel hit a wall. Despite all his efforts, Elizabeth wasn't moved at all! She gave the flowers to the receptionist and handed out the tickets to couples at The Jones Group. Who would've thought, Michael, Elizabeth is pretty loyal to you."
Michael sneered, "It's not about loyalty. She got hurt and has been home for a week."
Matthew burst out laughing, "I knew it. Samuel's always been good at chasing women. He's never failed before, so how could he fail this time?"
Elizabeth, who was eating across from Michael, seemed to notice he was talking about her.
She looked up, put down her fork, and said to Susan, "Susan, I'm done. I'm heading back to my room." Then she left.
As she walked out of the room, Michael's previously indifferent expression turned cold. Samuel clearly didn't respect him. Knowing Elizabeth was his wife, he still openly pursued her.
It seemed their decade-long friendship meant nothing.
Matthew asked on the other end, "Michael, how did Elizabeth get hurt?"
"Alright, don't worry about it. Get back to work and stop bothering me while I'm eating." Michael was ready to hang up.
Matthew anxiously shouted, "Michael, don't hang up yet, I'm not done. Listen, Elizabeth will eventually go back to work at The Jones Group. When that happens, you can't watch her all day! Samuel will use his investment in The Jones Group as an excuse to be around her. Michael, are you gonna have someone follow Elizabeth all day to stop Samuel? Since you've admitted you like her, you gotta show it. You're not usually this hesitant."
Michael hesitated for a moment, "So, what should I do?"
Matthew's interest was piqued, "Michael, you're asking just the right man. While things are still good between you two, take her shopping, buy her some gifts! Who doesn't like getting gifts?"
Michael hesitated, "But I don't know what she likes."
Matthew laughed, "Then ask me. I'll give you some ideas. Just take her out."
Michael hung up the phone and went to Elizabeth's room to knock on the door, "Elizabeth, can you come out for a sec?"
Elizabeth had just changed into her night gown and was about to rest when she heard Michael knocking.
She opened the door and asked him with a blank expression, "What is it?"
Michael hesitantly said, "The company's hosting an annual party soon, and I need to get gifts for the employees. There are so many female employees, and I don't know what to get them. Since you're free, can you come with me to the mall to pick something out?"
Elizabeth gave him a questioning look and asked, "Why ask me? You get Margaret from your company. Besides, she likes you so much. If you ask Margaret to go shopping with you, she'd be over the moon."
Hearing this, Michael was about to get angry. But he remembered Matthew's advice, clenched his fists, and suppressed his anger, saying calmly, "I've never shopped with Margaret. Besides, if I asked her to help me pick out gifts, do you think she'd be okay with me giving them to the female employees?"
Elizabeth thought about it and realized he had a point.
Given Margaret's strong possessiveness towards Michael, she indeed wouldn't allow such a thing to happen.
So, Elizabeth said expressionlessly to Michael, "Fine, wait for me in the living room. I'll change and go with you."
Elizabeth found a recently purchased, unworn autumn dress from her wardrobe.
After changing into it, she applied light makeup before leaving the room.
Michael, sitting in the living room, was momentarily stunned when he saw her.
Since Michael had known Elizabeth, he had never seen her dressed up before.
Except for that night when he misunderstood her, she wore a red evening dress and light makeup, but Michael was too angry to notice that.
He stared intently at Elizabeth, who was now standing before him in a black dress. Her long, wavy hair cascaded down her chest, and her face, adorned with light makeup, was a canvas of delicate features.
The dress's neckline design highlighted her slender neck.
The dress wasn't thin but was form-fitting, outlining Elizabeth's perfect body curves.
Michael was momentarily dazed.
He knew Elizabeth was beautiful, but he didn't know she could look this stunning with makeup.
Elizabeth saw him staring blankly at her and gently said, "Michael, aren't we going out? Let's go."
Michael snapped out of it, "Alright, let's go. The driver is already waiting."
Susan also saw Elizabeth dressed up and smiled, "Mrs. Thomas, you should dress up more often. You look more beautiful this way!"
Elizabeth, in a good mood, smiled back at Susan, "Susan, do I not look good usually?"
Susan laughed, "You look good in anything."
