Chapter 340 Stay Overnight
Michael slipped his hands into the pockets of his suit pants and turned to look at her.
Elizabeth tilted her head slightly, her eyes glancing at him with a faint, almost imperceptible smile on her lips.
He felt more certain now; he had offended her earlier, but she wasn't angry.
Suddenly emboldened, he leaned in and whispered, "Aren't I Pearl's dad?"
As he spoke, he bent down slightly, bringing his mouth close to Elizabeth's ear.
They hadn't had any alcohol during dinner, but at this moment, Elizabeth felt a bit tipsy.
Otherwise, why was her face so warm?
Maybe it was because the sunset was so beautiful, the grass beneath her feet so soft, and her heart felt free.
Elizabeth gently pushed him away. "Stop messing around, Pearl hasn't accepted you."
She started walking towards the main road.
The gravel path in front of the restaurant was uneven. Elizabeth's dress was long, and she was a few months pregnant, so she didn't see the dips and bumps underfoot and stumbled slightly.
Michael quickly steadied her, grabbing her slender wrist. "Wait for me."
Elizabeth was already walking slowly, and now, with him holding her like this, she had no choice but to walk beside him.
Michael let go of her wrist, but before she could pull her hand back, he had already clasped it tightly.
Elizabeth looked down and saw their fingers intertwined.
She shook her head helplessly. 'What is this? Are we dating? Since when did Michael become so childish?'
She stopped walking. "Alright, you can let go now."
Michael didn't even look at her. "The country roads are uneven, the sun is setting, and the light is poor. Be careful with your belly."
Elizabeth couldn't find a reason to argue with him, so she let him be.
The filming location wasn't far, and they walked hand in hand all the way there.
When they arrived, Elizabeth identified herself to the staff.
The staff saw Michael and quickly nodded and smiled. "Mr. Thomas, you're here."
Michael nodded slightly.
Elizabeth was puzzled and asked him, "What's going on? Why didn't the staff stop you?"
Michael's lips curved slightly. "I'm one of the investors."
Elizabeth realized she had been played.
Pearl, with her sharp eyes, saw them and ran over excitedly. "Mom!"
She stopped just in front of Elizabeth, her eyes bright. "Mom, did you come to see me and Mr. McGinnis?"
Elizabeth smiled and nodded.
Michael glanced at Carter in the distance and snorted.
Carter, seeing Elizabeth from afar, walked over with large strides. His gaze fell on their tightly clasped hands, his eyebrows furrowing slightly but quickly smoothing out.
He wore a polite smile. "Elizabeth, Mr. Thomas, you're here."
Michael looked at him, deliberately tightening his grip on Elizabeth's hand, but said nothing.
Carter saw the challenge in his eyes.
Elizabeth didn't pay attention to the little mind games of the man beside her. She let go of his hand and took Pearl's, smiling at Carter. "Carter, thank you for taking care of Pearl."
Carter's smile deepened. "Pearl is very well-behaved and independent. She's been a great help to me."
He asked Elizabeth, "Is your accommodation sorted?"
Elizabeth nodded. "The show crew helped find a hotel, and my luggage is already there."
They chatted for a while until an assistant came to inform them that it was time for dinner. Pearl reluctantly said goodbye to Elizabeth.
To prevent any accidents, the show required all guests to eat and stay with the crew.
After the visit, it was completely dark outside.
The bodyguard was waiting by the car for Elizabeth. Seeing her approach, he quickly opened the door for her.
Michael, without hesitation, stepped in before her.
The bodyguard stood aside, a bit speechless. "Ms. Jones, this..."
Elizabeth's face turned cold. "Mr. Thomas, where are your bodyguard and driver?"
Michael looked at her. The usually stoic Michael now showed a hint of grievance. "In Aurora Bay."
Elizabeth glanced around and quickly got into the car. The bodyguard swiftly closed the door for her.
Elizabeth looked at Michael. "Are you crazy? You came all this way alone? You didn't bring a bodyguard? Don't you know how many enemies you have?"
Michael still had that helpless tone. "I was in a hurry and didn't think it through."
Elizabeth held her forehead. "Aren't you afraid someone might target you on the way?"
Michael had a nonchalant expression. "Then I'll leave it to fate."
"Don't tell me you didn't even arrange a place to stay."
Michael just looked at her, as if saying, 'You guessed it.'
Elizabeth closed her eyes for a moment, then opened them abruptly. "Michael, when did you become so reckless?"
Michael took her hand. "Elizabeth, don't worry, and don't get upset. Be careful with the baby. I won't be without a place to stay. I asked the hotel owner. Even though the rooms are full, she said I could stay in the storage room."
Elizabeth was shocked. The always pampered Michael staying in a storage room? Was she hearing things, or had he gone mad?
But she didn't say anything more.
The car soon arrived at the hotel.
Elizabeth got out of the car angrily and walked towards her room.
Michael followed her closely.
Elizabeth spun around. "Why are you following me? Aren't you going to the storage room?"
Michael hesitated. "I just wanted to see you to your room and make sure you're safe."
"Alright, get some sleep." He turned and walked slowly towards the stairs, his back looking lonely and desolate.
Before he had taken ten steps, Elizabeth called out in exasperation. "Come back!"
Michael paused. "What is it?"
Elizabeth rolled her eyes. "Come to my room!"
Michael still had his back to her, so she couldn't see the triumphant smile on his lips.
When he turned around, his face was calm again. "Is that appropriate?"
Elizabeth had already opened the door. "You sleep on the couch, no disturbances."
Michael followed her in, head down. He thought to himself, 'Once asleep, I can always sleepwalk.'
He closed the door behind him.
Elizabeth suddenly felt a bit awkward. "You go take a shower."
Michael opened his mouth. "I'm not in a hurry. You go first."
Elizabeth hung up her hat, feeling that this conversation was strange.
In the end, Michael went into the bathroom first.
The hotel room wasn't very big, and the bathroom was just a small frosted glass cubicle, not soundproof at all.
Elizabeth sat on the couch, listening to the sound of the water, feeling that something was off.
How did this happen?
How did Michael end up in her room?
And she invited him to stay overnight?
He was the CEO of STellar Enterprises, with a private jet and a team of bodyguards, and he had investments in the show. How could he not have booked a room?
Who was he trying to fool?
But she had believed him!
Was her brain waterlogged, making her stupid?
