Chapter 557 Lovey-Dovey
Michael had been mulling it over for a long time. Instead of letting Gerald control him, it was better to stand up and fight back, to take charge of his own destiny.
Kirk set down his coffee cup and extended his hand. "We gotta do this together!"
Alfonso placed his hand on top. "Together!"
Michael joined in and looked at Juan.
Juan stood up, shaking his head with a smile. "Absolutely, together."
The four of them stacked their hands. "United, we'll take down Gerald!"
Juan refilled their coffee cups, and they raised them like they were toasting with wine.
Michael said, "Gerald's guilty of a lot, but Cordelia's innocent. She hasn't been involved in any of his shady stuff."
He glanced around at the others.
Kirk met his gaze. "Michael, don't sweat it. We're just gonna make Gerald give back the properties he swiped from Jake and Efrain. We won't mess with his original Murphy Group."
Juan chimed in, "Yeah, if he kicks the bucket, the Murphy Group will definitely go to Cordelia."
Michael nodded. "Alright, once it's done, you guys can handle Jake and Efrain's assets however you want. I don't want a dime. Just make sure the Murphy Group goes to Cordelia."
Alfonso was curious. "Michael, you don't want anything? Gerald's got a ton of wealth, and you don't want any of it?"
Kirk grinned. "Cordelia loves him deeply. He's her husband. The Murphy Group in Cordelia's hands is pretty much the same as in Michael's. In the end, the Murphy Group will still be Michael's. And with Michael's skills, the Murphy Group will grow and thrive under his leadership, surpassing us all in a few years."
Juan just smiled and shook his head.
Alfonso noticed. "Juan, why are you smiling? Do you know something we don't?"
Juan smiled. "What could I possibly know?"
Michael spoke up. "Once Gerald is dead and Cordelia inherits the Murphy Group, I'll leave here and go back to Aurora Bay, never to set foot here again."
Juan smiled knowingly again.
Kirk and Alfonso spoke in unison. "You're leaving?"
Kirk said, "Michael, you're not planning to stay? We haven't had a chance to hang out and have a drink together in ages."
Alfonso added, "Yeah, Michael. We've been apart for so long. We hardly see each other anymore."
Michael put down his coffee cup and stood up. "Spend more time with your families. You can't take money with you when you die."
He walked to the door. "Once you have everything planned, let me know. I'll head back now."
Juan asked, "Michael, are you thinking about Elizabeth? Have you regained your memory?"
Michael shook his head. "Not yet."
Juan frowned. "Have you fallen in love with her again? Are you giving up everything here for her?"
Michael smiled bitterly. "Everything here? What have I ever truly owned here? It's all been Gerald's charity. If he's ever dissatisfied with me, he can take it all back whenever he wants. I have no right to resist. I don't like that. I prefer to be in control. So, I will definitely go back."
Michael left Stewart Manor and returned to the hospital.
He first checked on Gerald. He hadn't woken up yet. Zander was in his room, keeping him company.
Michael gently closed the door and left Gerald's room, heading straight to Elizabeth's room.
Elizabeth had been feeling bored, took a nap, and was now sitting by the bed, snacking.
Rufus was watching TV in the outer room.
Michael didn't bother knocking; he just walked right in.
Rufus heard the door open, jumped up, and then, seeing it was Michael, sat back down.
Elizabeth heard the noise and looked toward the door, a bit surprised to see Michael. "You're here again? Aren't you worried Zander will catch you?"
Michael gently nudged Elizabeth, signaling her to scoot over. "Gerald hasn't woken up yet. If I stay there, I've got nothing to say to Zander. It's boring. I'd rather be here with you."
Rufus stood at the door, watching them. "Ms. Jones, using your hospital stay to date. Impressive."
He looked at Michael. "Mr. Thomas, you just walked in here openly. Aren't you afraid the Murphy family will come after you?"
Michael shrugged. "It's fine. Even if I don't come here, they'll still be wary of me. Knowing I'm here doesn't change anything."
Rufus muttered, "Staying in the hospital makes it convenient for you two to be all lovey-dovey."
Elizabeth said, "Why don't you go buy me some snacks?"
Rufus pouted. "Didn't you just eat a bunch? You want more? Aren't you having surgery tomorrow? Don't you need to fast?"
Elizabeth replied, "I only need to fast after midnight. Not now."
Rufus said, "I think you're just finding an excuse to get rid of me so you can be alone with him."
Elizabeth said matter-of-factly, "You figured it out, so why haven't you disappeared yet?"
Rufus raised his hands in surrender. "Fine, I'm leaving."
Michael chuckled softly.
Elizabeth sneaked a glance at him.
Michael's attitude towards her had changed a lot. He was no longer as cold as he was when he first saw her.
Elizabeth wondered if Michael had remembered her.
She was about to ask him when he stood up. "I'm going to check on Gerald."
Elizabeth sighed and lowered her head. "Okay."
Michael hesitated for a moment, then gently patted her head. "I'll definitely come see you when I have time."
He went to Gerald's room.
Gerald had just woken up. "Michael, you're here."
Zander snorted and turned his head away.
Michael asked, "Gerald, where's Cordelia? Didn't she come to the hospital?"
Zander replied irritably, "She went to look for you, didn't she?"
Michael frowned. "Where did she go to find me?"
Gerald weakly said, "Cordelia said she wasn't feeling well and went home."
Michael nodded. "Alright."
Gerald raised his hand slightly. "Michael, go home and be with Cordelia. You don't need to stay here. Zander can keep me company."
Michael didn't argue. "Okay. I'll go check on Cordelia."
After he left, Zander complained, "Gerald, did he stay in your room for even a minute? As your son-in-law, he should be taking better care of you."
Gerald looked at him. "Zander, I know you've liked Cordelia since you were young. I had her marry Michael, and you're jealous, aren't you?"
Zander lowered his head and fiddled with his clothes, not saying a word.
Gerald sighed softly. "Zander, I also wanted you and Cordelia to be together. After all, Michael and I met by chance and became friends. You've been by my side since you were young. We have a bond. If it weren't for the Murphy family's troubles, needing Michael's skills to secure our position, I wouldn't have resorted to this."
Gerald looked serious. "Zander, if you had Michael's ironclad resolve and sharp mind, I would have married Cordelia to you long ago!"
