Chapter 558 Surgery
Zander's face lit up with excitement.
"Gerald, are you serious about this?"
Gerald replied, "Of course, I'm serious! Why would I lie to you? As long as you surpass him one day, I'll make sure you take his place. Whether it's the Murphy Group or Cordelia, it'll all be yours."
Zander clenched his fist quietly. "Gerald, I won't let you down."
Gerald closed his eyes. "Don't just talk. Show me your strength and performance. Otherwise, how can I trust you with Cordelia?"
Zander's face turned red with excitement. "Gerald..."
Gerald interrupted him. "What's going on with Cordelia? Why is she suddenly feeling unwell?"
Zander quickly responded, "I think Cordelia has something important to do. She said she won't be coming here for the next couple of days. She'll tell you everything once it's done."
Gerald sighed. "Cordelia is completely focused on Michael now. I wonder if I did the right thing by arranging her marriage to him."
Zander whispered, "You arranged their marriage, so Cordelia had no choice but to fall in love with Michael. Otherwise, how could she find happiness?"
Gerald opened his eyes and glared at him. "Are you blaming me?"
Zander immediately dropped to his knees. "Gerald! No, I'm not! I'm just upset."
He lowered his head, hiding the venomous look in his eyes from Gerald.
Michael didn't return to Murphy Castle; instead, he went straight to Elizabeth's hospital room.
Elizabeth was just about to wash up and go to bed when she saw him return so quickly. She was a bit surprised. "You're back already? Isn't this a bit too bold?"
Michael casually lay down on the sofa. "Gerald told me to go back and be with Cordelia. So, I came back here."
Elizabeth noticed how uncomfortable he looked with his long legs curled up on the small sofa. "Why don't you lie on the bed? The sofa is too small."
Michael glanced at her. "I'm not going to take your bed. You have surgery tomorrow; you need to rest well."
Elizabeth looked at him quietly without saying a word.
Michael sat up. "What's wrong?"
Elizabeth said, "Michael, stay with me at a hotel tonight."
Michael stood up. "Alright. Let's go."
Elizabeth's eyes widened. "You're not refusing?"
Michael looked at her. "What, were you just testing me?"
Elizabeth gave a sly smile. "No, I'm blatantly seducing you."
Michael laughed and grabbed her coat. "Alright, I accept your seduction. Let's go."
Elizabeth happily linked her arm with his, and they walked towards the elevator.
They didn't notice Zander behind them, watching their backs with a furious expression.
As soon as Michael entered Elizabeth's hospital room, the Murphy family's servant had already reported it to Zander.
Zander clenched his fists tightly, gritting his teeth as he watched the two of them being affectionate.
He thought angrily, 'Michael, you really don't know how to cherish what you have! Cordelia is so wonderful, and yet you betray her! I will make you pay for this!'
The next morning, Elizabeth woke up in Michael's arms.
As soon as she opened her eyes, she saw Michael's profile. She smiled and reached out to trace his features.
Michael, with his eyes still closed, smiled and grabbed her hand. "What are you doing?"
Elizabeth laughed and pulled her hand back. "I need to go back to the hospital. You should sleep a bit more; you had a rough night."
She sat up in bed and leaned over to kiss Michael on the forehead.
Michael wrapped his arms around her and held the back of her head, kissing her. "You're my charger. Being with you only energizes me; I never feel tired."
Elizabeth laughed. "Alright, I really need to go. My surgery is the first one today. If I'm not there, Glenn will go crazy."
Michael sat up. "I'll take you back to the hospital."
Elizabeth stopped him. "No need, you should rest. Come see me after I get out of surgery."
"Alright, but call me when you get to the hospital."
"Okay."
When Elizabeth returned to the hospital, Rufus immediately stood up excitedly. "Ms. Jones! You're back! Dr. Cole has been looking for you several times."
Elizabeth felt a bit embarrassed. "Why didn't he call me?"
Rufus held up a phone helplessly. "Your phone was left on the bed! What good would calling you do?"
Elizabeth stuck out her tongue playfully. "Sorry about that."
Rufus sighed. "You should go apologize to Dr. Cole. After all, he's the one most worried about you."
It seemed Glenn knew Elizabeth had returned. He rushed in, looking disheveled. "Elizabeth, where did you go? I came to find you as soon as I got to work, and you weren't here."
Elizabeth apologized again. "Sorry, Glenn. I didn't mean to worry you."
Glenn looked down. "It's nothing, really. I just wanted to check on you one more time."
Elizabeth was curious. "Glenn, you seem more nervous than I am. Are you doubting your own skills?"
Glenn quickly shook his head. "No, no, Elizabeth, I wish you a successful surgery! You'll get what you want and leave Majestic City smoothly!"
Elizabeth smiled. "Thank you for your kind words, Glenn."
"It's time for your surgery. Get ready; you'll be going in soon."
"Okay."
Elizabeth wasn't nervous. The surgery plan had been confirmed multiple times by her and Glenn, and there were no issues.
She was just curious about what it would feel like to lie on the operating table. After all, she was usually the one standing beside it.
As the anesthesia took effect, Elizabeth fell into a deep sleep, unaware of anything.
Rufus waited for Elizabeth in the hallway outside the operating room.
The surgery lasted until almost noon.
After the surgery, the medical staff wheeled her back to her room.
Rufus grabbed Glenn. "Dr. Cole, how is Ms. Jones?"
Glenn removed his mask, looking exhausted. "The surgery was very successful and went smoothly. If there are any issues later, call me immediately."
Rufus nodded. "Thank you, Dr. Cole. Thank you for your hard work."
Glenn shook his head. "No need to be so formal. Elizabeth and I—"
He didn't finish his sentence and changed the topic. "Go be with her."
Rufus left.
Glenn stood at the door of the operating room, deep in thought.
In the evening, Elizabeth woke up groggily.
Rufus had been watching her. As soon as he saw her wake up, he asked, "Ms. Jones, you're awake? Louis called to ask about your surgery. I told him it was done, but you were still asleep. He seemed quite anxious. Do you want to call him back?"
Elizabeth stared at him, not blinking. "Louis? Call him back?"
Her voice was a bit hoarse.
Rufus nodded. "Yes."
Elizabeth asked, "Who is that?"
Rufus's eyes widened in disbelief.
Elizabeth continued, "Why are you here? Who are you?"
