Chapter 329 Blindness

The project manager never saw this coming. Up until today, his team had checked every inch of the site, making sure there were no safety hazards.

He didn't have time to dwell on it and quickly called for an ambulance.

Michael helped Octavia up, tearing open her sleeve to check her injury.

There were a few stray screws on the ground where they had fallen.

Michael glared at the manager. "This is what you wanted me to sign off on?"

He didn't raise his voice, but his tone made the manager feel like he was about to be torn apart.

Ignoring the manager, Michael picked Octavia up and carried her out of the site.

The ambulance arrived quickly. Michael got in with Octavia, and the paramedics began disinfecting her wound.

Since the wound was caused by contaminated screws, she needed a tetanus shot at the hospital.

At the hospital, Michael watched as the nurse administered the tetanus shot to Octavia.

He had Daniel handle the admission paperwork, ensuring Octavia stayed for observation to check for any other issues, like a concussion.

Michael needed to return to the site to see what other problems might be lurking.

A Murder Mystery venue with safety hazards couldn't be opened to the public; it needed immediate rectification.

Meanwhile, Calla woke up from a long nap, still a bit groggy.

As she opened her eyes and started to sit up, a voice came from nearby. "Calla, you're living quite comfortably now, aren't you?"

Calla's eyes were still puffy. She rubbed them and looked towards the voice, realizing there was someone else in her room.

Before she could react, a handful of white powder was thrown in her face. Her eyes stung sharply.

She rubbed them harder, but the pain only intensified. She screamed in terror, "Who? Who are you? Why are you doing this to me?"

The voice laughed. "Can't you recognize my voice? Are you that slow?"

Calla was horrified. "Elizabeth? Is that you, Elizabeth? How did you get in here?"

"Isn't it obvious? Anthony lives here, doesn't he? He said this was his room. It wasn't hard to get in."

The pain in Calla's eyes was unbearable. She stumbled to the bathroom, feeling her way along the wall, and turned on the faucet to rinse her eyes.

Soon, agonized screams echoed from the bathroom. "My eyes!"

Calla ran out of the room, clutching her eyes, screaming, "Elizabeth! Give me back my eyes! I'll kill you! Ah!"

Michael had just returned to the site when he got a call from William.

"Michael, you need to get to the hospital's ophthalmology department right away."

"What happened?"

"It's Calla. She's demanding you come."

"I'm busy here."

"She said she wants to kill Elizabeth."

"I'll be right there."

As the driver took Michael to the hospital, he couldn't help but think that Michael seemed to be fated to spend the day at the hospital.

Michael entered the ophthalmology ward, where William was waiting in the hallway. "Michael, you're finally here."

"Where's Calla?"

"Anthony is with her. She's really unstable, which isn't good for the baby. The doctor said her eyes were chemically burned, causing irreversible blindness. She'll never see again."

William led Michael to Calla's room.

Calla was lying on the bed, exhausted, her arms flailing and hitting the bed, shouting, "Elizabeth, I'll kill you!"

Her eyes were covered with bandages; otherwise, her expression would have been incredibly ferocious.

Michael approached her bed.

Anthony came over, looking innocent. "Uncle Michael, you're here. Look at Calla, she's in such a pitiful state. She was an excellent neurosurgeon. Now that she's blind, she can never operate again."

Michael shot him a cold glance. "Don't provoke her."

Anthony quickly shut up.

Calla was already shouting, "Michael? Michael! Is that you? Are you here?"

Michael nodded, then remembered she couldn't see. "It's me."

Calla's hands flailed wildly, her voice filled with despair. "Michael! It was Elizabeth! Elizabeth did this to me! She threw powder in my eyes and caused this! You have to avenge me! She's tried to harm me multiple times! I want her to suffer!"

Michael grabbed her flailing hands and tucked them under the blanket. "Calla, it couldn't have been Elizabeth. She has no motive."

Calla shook her head frantically. "No! Michael! I saw her with my own eyes! It was her!"

She clutched Michael's hand tightly, her voice breaking. "Michael, I've already ended up like this. I have no reason to falsely accuse her!"

Michael pulled his hand away. "Where did this happen?"

Anthony quickly answered, "At the Thomas mansion."

Calla turned her head towards Anthony. "Anthony, you're also a suspect. Elizabeth said you brought her into the house! You two have been having an affair! You wanted to get rid of me so you could be together without any obstacles!"

Anthony dropped to his knees. "Uncle Michael, don't listen to Calla! She's blind and unstable, saying all sorts of nonsense. You can't take her words seriously!"

Michael's face was icy. "I'll investigate this thoroughly. If Elizabeth is guilty, she won't be spared. If she's innocent, I won't tolerate any slander against her."

He looked at Calla, who was angrily clenching her fists. "Calla, I'm deeply sorry for your blindness. I hope you can stay strong and cooperate with the doctors for treatment, aiming for a speedy recovery."

He strode out of the room.

Anthony followed him. "Uncle Michael, let me see you out."

At the door, Michael turned and looked at him coldly. "What did Calla mean by saying you and Elizabeth have been having an affair?"

Anthony's eyes darted nervously. "Uncle Michael, why listen to that crazy woman? She's lost her mind. You can't take her words seriously."

Michael frowned deeply at Anthony's evasive behavior. "Anthony, since you've chosen to be with Calla, take good care of her. Don't do anything disgraceful. Just remember, you're on your own."

With his bodyguard, Michael left.

Behind him, Anthony watched him go, his eyes filled with resentment.
