Chapter 169 She Mastered Her Secret

When Matthew went to the restroom, Calla finally looked around and noticed that the entire restaurant was designed to resemble a forest.

Thick fake trees had layers of leaves tangled above, with light filtering through them.

Each tree trunk had a wall lamp hanging on it.

The center of the hall had a special design.

The restaurant's layout was super private. Tables were separated by fake green vines and white curtains.

Diners could only hear sounds, unable to see other tables.

Since it wasn't mealtime yet, the restaurant was really quiet.

Calla sighed deeply and told herself, 'Maybe I should just let it go. After all, the person who will be with Michael in the future is me. Elizabeth is forever in the past. Since she can adopt someone else's child, it shows that she has completely given up on Michael in her heart.'

As she quietly engaged in some self-reflection, a nearby voice sounded very familiar. Carla listened carefully and gently lifted the curtain of the neighboring table.

At this moment, she was only separated from Elizabeth by a screen of green vines.

Coincidentally, Elizabeth and Sarah were dining at this restaurant.

Sarah hadn't seen Elizabeth for a while.

She asked Elizabeth, "Elizabeth, your birthday is coming up. Have you decided where to celebrate? At home or at a hotel?"

Elizabeth, sipping her juice, replied, "I was planning to celebrate at home with my family. But Dean said he wanted to host a birthday party at a hotel. So I left everything to him. He's in charge of contacting the hotel, choosing the menu, and deciding the guest list. I won't have to worry about a thing—I'll just show up and enjoy."

Sarah said with envy, "Well, it is your birthday after all! Not having to deal with any of the planning sounds like a pretty sweet deal for you."

Elizabeth said helplessly, "You have no idea how busy I am every day. I don't have the time or energy to think about this. If Dean wants to handle it, I'll let him. After all, I can't take away his fun."

Sarah laughed too. "You're right. Dean loves a good party. If he has a legitimate reason to throw one, he won't miss the chance. Elizabeth, just let him have this one."

"Alright," Elizabeth chuckled.

With a clinking sound, the two of them clinked their glasses.

Elizabeth's voice rang out, "You have to drive later. Let's not drink."

Sarah said, "Alright, I'll stick to juice too. By the way, you let Dean handle the guest list. Have you thought about whether he might not invite Michael?"

Elizabeth seemed to be munching on something, her voice muffled, "Why? Do they have beef?"

Sarah didn't respond.

Elizabeth swallowed her food. "Oh, right! Dean has issues with Michael's assistant, Daniel. So, it's pretty likely he won't invite anyone from Stellar Enterprises," she said.

Sarah got anxious. "So, David won't be invited either?"

Elizabeth laughed. "No worries. I'll give you a handwritten invite. Whether David comes or not doesn't matter, as long as you come."

Sarah probed. "What about Michael? Do you want Dean to invite him?"

Elizabeth seemed to be thinking as she didn't answer right away.

Calla's heart also tightened.

She wanted to know Elizabeth's answer.

After a moment, Elizabeth seemed to exhale. "We're divorced. Is there any need to see each other again?"

Calla thought, 'You don't really think that, you hypocritical woman.'

Sarah said, "Okay, I get it. After all, Michael wronged you. He was the one who let you down first." She took a sip of juice and asked, "So, for your birthday, Pearl and Nolan will definitely be there, right?"

Elizabeth nodded. "Of course! I can't leave them at home. I wouldn't be at ease!"

Sarah asked with concern, "When the guests see them, won't they be suspicious?"

Calla clenched her fists when she heard this.

Sarah said the guests would be suspicious. Suspicious of what? Was there something wrong with Elizabeth's two kids?

Elizabeth's voice rang out, "I hadn't really thought about that. But there are many people in the world who look alike. No need to worry too much."

Sarah's voice became noticeably anxious, "But it's not that coincidental! Nolan looks so much like Michael. And Pearl is your mini-me. They're the same height, the same age. They look like twins."

Calla covered her mouth.

Could it be that Elizabeth's two kids weren't adopted but her own?

Elizabeth seemed to pause. "Maybe I should have my mom stay home with the kids and not bring them to the party."

Sarah nodded vigorously. "Yes! It's not safe to expose them to the public. If someone familiar with Michael says something to him, even unintentionally, it could make him suspicious. If Michael suspects Nolan is his biological child and gets a paternity test, what then?"

Elizabeth's firm voice rang out, "I absolutely cannot let Michael know the true identity of these two kids! If Michael finds out they're his biological children, he'll kill them."

Hearing this, Calla's eyes widened in shock.

So, Elizabeth's two kids were really Michael's biological children!

Calla's lips curled into a cold smile. She quietly left, went to the front desk, and paid the bill.

Matthew came out of the restroom and Calla gave him a look. The two of them then left the restaurant.
