Chapter 560 Death
The maid smiled, "Yeah, Zander's always listened to you since he was a kid. If you told him to go west, he wouldn't even think about going east."
She sighed, "Honestly, if it weren't for Mr. Thomas, you would've been happy marrying Zander."
Cordelia's expression changed, "Don't say stuff like that. I'm Michael's wife now. I'm loyal to him and won't think about other men."
The maid quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, Ms. Murphy, I shouldn't have said that."
"Don't say it again."
"Yes, Ms. Murphy."
At the hospital, in the neurosurgery ward.
Cordelia arrived at Gerald's room.
She stood at the door and said to Zander, the bodyguards, and the nurse, "Everyone, please leave. I want to talk to my dad alone."
They all left.
Cordelia glanced around but didn't see Michael. He was with Elizabeth again, as expected.
Swallowing her discontent, she approached the bed and held Gerald's hand, "Dad, are you feeling better?"
Gerald smiled, "My precious daughter came to see me, and I feel much better already!"
Cordelia held her stomach, "Dad, I have good news for you. When you hear it, you'll recover even faster."
Gerald looked expectant, "Really? What's the good news?"
Cordelia leaned closer, "Dad, I'm pregnant. I'm carrying Michael's child."
Gerald was incredulous, "So soon? Cordelia, I underestimated you. Have you had a check-up? Is the baby healthy?"
Cordelia smiled shyly, "I felt unwell this morning and went to the OB-GYN for a check-up. Everything is normal. Don't worry, Dad."
Gerald realized, "No wonder Zander mentioned you weren't feeling well. Turns out you're pregnant. Since you have a baby, you should rest more and not run around. With Michael and Zander here, you don't need to come over."
Cordelia pressed her face against Gerald's hand, "I wanted to share the good news with you as soon as possible."
Gerald nodded, "It is indeed good news. Does Michael know?"
"I haven't told him yet. You're the first to know."
Gerald felt proud, "That's my good daughter! I didn't spoil you for nothing!"
Seeing Gerald's happy expression, Cordelia pleaded, "Dad, can you make Elizabeth leave Majestic City soon? I don't want to see her anymore."
She touched her stomach, "Now that I'm pregnant with Michael's child, I want him to focus on me and not be distracted by another woman."
Gerald's expression changed slightly, "Cordelia, are you sure that once Elizabeth leaves, you'll be able to win Michael's heart?"
Cordelia nodded firmly, "Of course! I'm carrying his child! He wouldn't want anything to happen to the baby, right? If he upsets me, it wouldn't be good for the baby. He wouldn't want that outcome, would he?"
Gerald nodded, "Alright, I'll handle it. You just focus on resting."
He waved her off, "Go home now. I'll have Rufus take you. The hospital smells too strong; you shouldn't stay here long."
Cordelia obediently left, "Dad, I'm leaving. Take care and get well soon. I'll visit you when you're discharged."
Michael was in the room with Elizabeth, feeding her apple slices.
"Did Glenn mention any post-surgery precautions?"
Elizabeth chewed slowly, "I don't need him to tell me; I already know."
Michael wiped her mouth with a tissue, "I know you get it. But as your caregiver, I need to know the precautions too."
Elizabeth smiled, "Are you planning to be my caregiver and take care of me?"
She suddenly frowned, "Where's Glenn? He vanished right after the surgery. He didn't even come to check on me."
Michael chatted with her, "Are you close with Glenn?"
"Yeah. He took good care of me back in Valoria."
"Does he like you?"
Elizabeth rolled her eyes at Michael, "Can't we just be friends? Glenn's kind to everyone."
"Besides, I heard he's getting married soon. His fiancée works here, I think she's a nurse. Don't say things that might cause misunderstandings."
As they were talking, the sound of a stretcher rushing down the hallway interrupted them.
Michael frowned, "What's going on?"
Elizabeth explained, "There must be another emergency patient needing immediate surgery."
Michael cut another piece of apple and fed it to her, "If everything's fine, let's get you discharged soon. You can't rest properly in the hospital."
Elizabeth nodded, "I promise. I'll go back to Aurora Bay right after discharge and won't stay here to burden you."
Michael looked at her, "I don't mind you being here..."
Elizabeth quickly said, "I know! Staying here means Gerald will keep threatening you, and you can't do your job. I understand."
Rufus burst in without knocking, interrupting their conversation.
Michael frowned and was about to speak.
Rufus, out of breath, said, "Ms. Jones! Your classmate! Glenn!"
Elizabeth frowned, "Rufus, catch your breath before speaking."
Rufus hurriedly said, "I just saw Glenn being taken away on a stretcher!"
Elizabeth and Michael exchanged a worried look. Her eyes were full of concern.
Michael stood up and held her shoulder, "Don't worry, I'll go find out what's happening. I'll be back soon with news."
He instructed Rufus, "Take care of Elizabeth."
Elizabeth nodded at him.
Soon, Michael returned with a troubled expression.
"Elizabeth, don't worry. You need to rest after surgery."
Elizabeth grabbed his hand, "Tell me, what happened to Glenn? Is he in danger?"
Michael hesitated, "Elizabeth, Glenn is dead."
He hung his head, as if he were responsible for it.
Elizabeth was shocked, "No! Impossible! He was here this morning! He performed my surgery! How could this happen?"
Michael sat on the bed and gently hugged her, "Elizabeth, you need to control your emotions. Don't get too upset, okay?"
Elizabeth's tears flowed, "Glenn said he was getting married soon! He loved his fiancée! How will she cope with this?"
Michael comforted her, "Elizabeth, promise me you won't get too upset. Glenn is gone, and nothing you do can bring him back."
Elizabeth sobbed, "It's my fault! I must have angered Gerald! So he killed someone close to me to vent his anger! It must be!"
Michael held her tightly, vowing, "Elizabeth, Glenn won't have died in vain. I'll find the killer and avenge him."
Elizabeth looked at him with tearful eyes, "What if the killer is Gerald?"
Michael's eyes were resolute, "No one is exempt."
