Chapter 537 Encounter
Victor followed up on the conversation, asking, "Yeah, how did Elizabeth get up there? Where'd she get an invite?"
Juan scoffed, "Idiot!"
Victor had a sudden realization, "Uncle Juan, did you give Elizabeth the invitation?"
Juan stayed silent, neither confirming nor denying.
Victor was bewildered, "Uncle Juan, didn't you say Michael is her husband? How is she still your woman?"
Juan, clearly out of patience, shouted, "Do I need you to question my actions? Who do you think you are?"
Victor immediately apologized, "I'm sorry, Uncle Juan, I was wrong!"
Juan mocked him, "Next time, think before you speak or act. Don't do something stupid like shooting your own sister again."
Before Victor could defend himself, Juan hung up the phone.
Victor was still puzzled, trying to understand how Michael and Juan could share the same woman.
He tossed his phone aside and looked down at Elizabeth, sneering, "Looks like you got some skills, knowing how to cling to Uncle Juan."
He stepped off the bed and picked up the walkie-talkie, instructing his subordinates, "Untie her."
The heavy iron door creaked open, and two bodyguards walked in.
Victor waved them off, "Get a couple of maids to clean her up."
He didn't want Juan to think he had mistreated his woman.
In the study of Stewart Manor, Juan leisurely picked up another phone.
"You heard everything?"
Michael's voice came through, muffled, "Yeah."
Juan, internally criticizing Michael's dullness, couldn't help but ask, "Aren't you mad about what I said?"
"I know you did it to save her. Besides, she made up that lie herself. I know exactly what kind of person you are."
Juan chuckled, "Good thing you understand. Otherwise, I'd never be able to explain it."
An hour later, Elizabeth was sitting in the living room of Stewart Manor, dressed neatly.
Victor smiled apologetically at Juan, "Uncle Juan, I've brought her back. I didn't touch her. You can ask her if you don't believe me. And it wasn't my idea to capture her; it was my father's. You know how domineering he is. I had to follow his orders."
Juan gave Elizabeth a meaningful look, and she lowered her head in embarrassment.
"Alright, I get it. You can leave now."
Victor quickly left with his entourage.
The door closed again, and the manor returned to its quiet state.
Elizabeth quickly stood up from the sofa, "Mr. Stewart, thank you for cooperating with me. Thank you for saving me."
Juan frowned in exasperation, "Elizabeth, at least give me a heads-up next time you claim to be my woman. We need to coordinate our stories!"
Elizabeth lowered her head even more, "I'm sorry, Mr. Stewart. I had to use your identity in a moment of desperation."
Juan sighed, "I really owe you one."
A maid brought him coffee.
Juan casually sat on the sofa and picked up the coffee, "Michael called me. Right when Victor called."
Elizabeth was taken aback but quickly understood, "He heard everything?"
Juan glanced at Elizabeth's pale face, "Regretting it now? Why didn't you think about the consequences when you made up that story? Saying you're 'Juan's woman'! Do you think I would share a woman with Michael? Elizabeth, you're blatantly trying to sow discord between us!"
Elizabeth suddenly thought of something else, "Wait, he was worried about me? So he asked you to help me?"
Juan, in the middle of his rant, was interrupted and deflated.
"Elizabeth! I'm talking to you!"
Elizabeth looked at the angry Juan in front of her and suddenly felt that the rumored cold-blooded killer wasn't so scary after all.
She immediately pretended to be very respectful, "Mr. Stewart, I'm listening."
Juan had lost the desire to continue. He stood up and instructed the bodyguards, "Take her back to the hotel! I don't want her in my sight!"
Elizabeth quickly smiled, "Thank you for forgiving me!"
Juan sternly said, "Majestic City is the Murphy family's territory. It's not a place for you to stay long. You should leave as soon as possible. Otherwise, even I can't protect you."
Elizabeth didn't want to give up, "Michael clearly still has feelings for me. He hasn't forgotten me! He'll come back for me!"
Juan frowned, "Aren't you afraid you'll become a burden to him? What if he has his own things to do, and your presence only holds him back?"
Elizabeth bit her lip, "I'll be careful."
Juan's bodyguards escorted Elizabeth back to the hotel.
At the room door, Elizabeth's bodyguard was pacing anxiously.
When he saw her return, he immediately approached, "Ms. Jones! You're finally back!"
He handed her the phone, "Did Michael save you?"
Elizabeth shook her head, then nodded, "Yes."
The bodyguard was confused by her actions, but he was just glad she was back.
"Ms. Jones, while you were gone, Mr. Anderson called you."
Elizabeth took the phone and went into the room.
She saw several missed calls, some from Michael, some from Matthew.
Elizabeth called Matthew.
"Elizabeth, where have you been? Why couldn't I reach you?"
"I had my phone on silent. Do you need something?"
"Sherry moved to Whispering Pines Estates."
"Thanks for letting me know. Did something happen between you two?"
Matthew hesitated but decided to tell her, "She lost the baby."
Elizabeth was stunned. Sherry's baby was still very small, and now it was gone?
"Was it surgery or an accident? How is she feeling?"
Matthew felt guilty, "It's my fault. I brought trouble into my home, and it caused her miscarriage. Now, she hates me. It's better for her to stay with you for a while. I'll pay you."
Elizabeth's voice turned cold, "I don't need your money. I can take care of her. She's the kids' aunt, so it's natural for her to stay with me. Losing the baby might not be a bad thing."
Matthew was shocked, "Elizabeth, what do you mean by that?"
Elizabeth retorted, "You never liked Sherry or wanted her in your home. Now that the baby is gone, you should be happy. She has no reason to stay with you anymore. You're free."
Matthew was speechless, unable to say a word.
At Majestic City airport, Nolan, wearing a baseball cap and carrying a backpack, got into a taxi.
The car stopped at Bright Hotel.
Nolan paid the fare and walked into the hotel lobby, ready to check in. Suddenly, he heard a familiar voice.
Michael, followed by a group of people, was inspecting the hotel.
Nolan's heart skipped a beat.
He suddenly remembered that Bright Hotel was one of the Murphy family's properties.
