Chapter 292 Explosive News

Elizabeth sighed, closed her eyes, and said, "Dean went to that bar to find someone."

Michael squinted. "Who's he looking for?"

"Someone to help me."

"What do you need help with that requires going to a place like that?"

Elizabeth decided to come clean. "I need to deal with Jennifer."

Michael frowned. "Are you planning to hire some thugs from the bar to beat up Jennifer?"

Elizabeth rolled her eyes at him.

Catching her look, Michael responded, "Right, you're not that childish."

Elizabeth crossed her arms and leaned back in her chair. "I'm hiring someone to follow and monitor Jennifer. I need to get some dirt on her."

Michael raised an eyebrow. "Didn't you already hire a private investigator?"

Elizabeth almost asked, "How do you know?" But then she remembered that Michael had his ways of finding things out.

She looked out the window. "Dean said there are some places a private investigator can't easily access."

Michael nodded. "This Dean seems to know his stuff."

He turned Elizabeth's head to face him, forcing her to look into his eyes. "Stay out of this. I'll handle it."

Elizabeth stubbornly met his gaze. "If I'm going to fight back, I need to do it myself. What's the point if you handle everything?"

Michael chuckled, half amused, half exasperated. "Do you want excitement, or do you want to stay safe?"

Elizabeth lowered her voice. "I'm just having someone follow her. It's not like I'm taking any drastic measures. What danger could there be?"

Michael sighed. "Fine. If you want to do it, I won't stop you. But if you run into trouble, come to me."

Elizabeth nodded slightly. "Okay."

She wasn't stupid. If Michael could help her deal with some problems, why not take advantage of it?

After all, since their divorce, he'd slept with her so many times for free.

A few days later, Dean brought her some news.

In the president's office at The Jones Group, Dean closed the door and walked briskly over to Elizabeth, looking mysterious. "Elizabeth, I've got some explosive news."

Elizabeth's curiosity was piqued. "What kind of explosive news?"

Dean grinned. "Jennifer's been keeping a young man and frequently visits clubs to hire male models, several at a time."

Elizabeth's jaw dropped. "Oh my God! My stepmother is that promiscuous?"

Dean sat on Elizabeth's desk and took a sip from his personal cup. "You wouldn't believe it. She always presents herself as so dignified and proper in public."

Elizabeth shook her head. "Isn't she still dating Calla's father? I heard they're even planning to get married."

Dean jumped off the desk. "Yeah. Publicly, she's the future Mrs. Griffin."

Elizabeth smirked. "That's how she got close to Calla and why they're in cahoots."

Dean snorted. "Birds of a feather flock together. Both of them are shameless."

Elizabeth's lips curled into a sly smile. "We'll see if they end up together."

Dean leaned in, eyes gleaming with excitement. "Elizabeth, what's your next move?"

Elizabeth twirled a pen in her hand and smiled. "The next step is a bit risky. I won't handle it personally."

Dean nodded. "Right, some things are inconvenient for a woman. I'll take care of it."

Elizabeth patted his shoulder and winked. "Dean, you don't need to take the risk either."

Dean looked puzzled.

Elizabeth's smile turned cunning. "Leave the dangerous stuff to dangerous people."

Dean guessed, "Michael?"

Elizabeth raised an eyebrow. "Bingo!"

Dean laughed. "Elizabeth, you're going to use your ex-husband as a pawn?"

Elizabeth shrugged. "He's useful. Why not use him?"

At Stellar Enterprises, the setting sun cast a golden glow through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the president's office.

Michael lounged in his chair, one hand supporting his temple, the other resting on the armrest, his long legs crossed.

Daniel was briefing him on the schedule for the next week.

The phone on the desk rang.

Daniel glanced at the caller ID and saw it was Elizabeth.

Michael lazily glanced at the phone, ready to hang up, but when he saw the name, his eyes lit up, and he immediately sat up straight.

He slid his chair forward, leaned on the desk, and waved Daniel away.

Daniel got the hint and left, thinking, 'Elizabeth is impressive. Even after the divorce, she still has Mr. Thomas wrapped around her finger.'

In the office, Michael watched Daniel close the door and quickly answered the phone, a smile tugging at his lips, though he tried to keep his voice steady.

He feigned indifference. "Hello. What can I do for you?"

Elizabeth had called him confidently, intending to ask for his help with this "dangerous task," but his formal greeting threw her off. She hesitated for a moment.

She frowned, thinking, 'Michael is my ex-husband. Even though we've slept together many times since the divorce, it's just physical. There's no emotional connection. Will he refuse if I ask him to handle this?'

Michael, not hearing her response, grew puzzled. "Elizabeth?"

Elizabeth snapped out of it. "Wrong number. Sorry." She quickly hung up.

Michael stared at the disconnected call, frowning.

What was Elizabeth up to? Was she messing with him?

Back at The Jones Group, Dean looked at Elizabeth, unsure. "Elizabeth, did that jerk refuse you? What's with his act, pretending you're his property? Now that you need him, he's nowhere to be found."

Elizabeth clutched her phone, deep in thought.

That night in the car, he had clearly told her to come to him if she had any trouble, and he would help her.

But now, he answered her call with a completely different, cold tone.

Should she trust him?

No. Maybe that night, he was just drunk and impulsive.

After all, she didn't seem that important to him.

Elizabeth sighed almost imperceptibly. She grabbed her coat and stood up. "Let's go, Dean. We'll handle this ourselves."

Dean saw the disappointment on her face and worriedly said, "Elizabeth, I can get some people to take care of it. You don't have to go yourself. It's dangerous."

Elizabeth remained calm. "It's fine. I'm avenging myself."

She was already at the door and turned back when she saw Dean hadn't followed. "Come on, it's getting dark. Let's go watch the show."

Seeing her determination, Dean decided not to argue.

As they left, he lagged behind a few steps and secretly texted Daniel: [Where's your boss? Wasn't he supposed to help Elizabeth with her trouble? Where is he?]
