Chapter 492 The Silly Girl Fancies Her Silly Son

Sherry bit her lip. "Matthew! Just 'cause you got some money, you think you're hot stuff, huh?"

Matthew felt a headache coming on. "I don't think I'm hot stuff. I just don't want to see you working in a place like that."

Sherry shot back, "I don't have any status, no degree, and no work experience. What kind of good job do you expect me to find in a short time? One that can pay your rent quickly and support myself? If I don't work there, where else can I go?"

Matthew rubbed his forehead with one hand. "I can't argue with you. I'll call Michael. I'll let him talk to you."

The moment Sherry heard Michael's name, her defiance vanished, and she fell silent.

Matthew chuckled. "So, you're scared of your brother, huh?"

Sherry ignored him and turned to look out the window.

Matthew softened his tone. "If you quit that job, I won't call him."

Sherry didn't respond, but tears started to fall from her eyes.

Matthew panicked. "What did I say to make you cry? I won't call him, okay?"

Sherry still didn't respond.

Matthew continued to compromise. "Alright, fine! Finish this month and then quit. Is that okay? I'm telling you, it's really not a good job. You're a good girl; why waste yourself in a place like that?"

Sherry finally turned her head and wiped the tears from her cheeks. "I chose this path, and I'll walk it myself."

Her eyes were full of determination. Matthew knew better than to push her further. He could only plan in his mind to have a word with the bar owner to keep an eye on Sherry and make sure no one mistreated her.

Matthew first took Sherry to a women's clothing store, where she washed off her exaggerated makeup and picked out a sleek black dress.

Looking at the transformed Sherry, Matthew nodded in satisfaction. She was quite a beauty now. He then took her back home.

As soon as they opened the apartment door, they were both stunned.

The living room was brightly lit. A woman who had been sitting on the couch stood up and walked towards them with a smile.

Matthew was dumbfounded. "Mom? What are you doing here?"

Sherry glanced at him in confusion. His mom? She looks so young!

Matthew's mother, Janna Anderson, was already beside Sherry, smiling as she looked her up and down.

"Matthew, this girl is beautiful. Where did you trick her from?"

Matthew rubbed his forehead. "Mom, what do you mean 'tricked her'? She came here on her own!"

Janna's eyes sparkled even more. Finally, a girl with poor judgment had taken a liking to her foolish son. She had to make sure this girl didn't slip away.

She grabbed Sherry's hand. "Miss, I know Matthew has a lot of flaws, but please bear with him. If you can't stand him, just call me, and I'll straighten him out!"

She had already pulled out her phone and opened the contacts page. "Here, miss, give me your number, and I'll save it. My number is..."

Sherry was still in shock.

Did this lady misunderstand something?

She glanced at Matthew, signaling: 'What should I say next?'

Matthew walked over and tried to pull Janna towards his room.

Janna stood her ground, looking at Sherry with determination. "Miss, don't worry. I'm not one of those strict parents. Even if you live here, I won't interfere with your lives."

Sherry quickly waved her hands. "Mrs. Anderson, I'm just staying here temporarily. As soon as I have enough money, I'll move out."

Janna waved her hands too. "No, I don't want to kick you out. I'm thrilled you're staying here."

Sherry frowned. "But I can't keep living under the same roof with an old man. I'll move out soon."

Janna was stunned. "You think he's old?"

Sherry asked back, "Isn't he? Isn't he almost forty?"

Janna's eyes widened as she looked at her son, who had a gloomy expression. "Matthew, you do look a bit aged lately. How come you look more worn out than your dad?"

Matthew pushed Sherry. "Go to your room!"

Sherry, glad for an excuse to leave, went upstairs.

Janna was dragged into the room by Matthew.

As soon as the door closed, Matthew frowned. "Mom, you don't even understand the situation yet, so please don't jump to conclusions, okay?"
