Chapter 387 Reporting to the Police
Michael was still at the hospital when he saw Susan's call and answered right away.
"What's wrong?"
Susan's voice was low as she covered the phone and glanced nervously towards the kitchen door.
"Mr. Thomas, I need to tell you something. Elizabeth got a weird package—a dead kitten. I know things have been rough between you two lately, and I doubt she'll tell you herself."
Michael's brow furrowed deeply. "A dead kitten?"
Susan nodded, even though he couldn't see her. "Yeah, Mr. Thomas. Elizabeth thinks someone is trying to curse her child. She's not doing well. Dean's trying to comfort her."
Michael gripped his phone tightly. "Alright, I get it."
Susan hesitated. "Mr. Thomas, maybe you should come to Whispering Pines Estates and check on Elizabeth. She might need you right now."
Michael glanced at the monitor showing Francis and nodded. "Okay, Susan. I'll be there soon. Keep an eye on her for me."
The driver quickly took Michael to Whispering Pines Estates.
Susan opened the gate for him. "Mr. Thomas, you're here. Elizabeth is in the living room, and she looks terrible."
Michael nodded and strode towards the main house. As he entered the living room, he immediately saw Elizabeth lying on the couch.
It had only been a few hours since he last saw her, but she already looked so worn out.
Michael's heart tightened. He took a few long strides to her side, gently lifting his suit pants as he knelt by the couch. "Elizabeth."
Elizabeth opened her eyes and, seeing him, couldn't hold back her tears. "Michael, why are you here?"
Michael's voice was hoarse. "I was worried about you and came to check on you. Why aren't you resting in your room?"
Elizabeth sat up. "I just received a package—a dead kitten..."
Her voice choked, and she couldn't continue.
Michael sat on the couch and pulled her into his arms. "Don't be afraid, Elizabeth. I'm here. I'll handle this."
Elizabeth sobbed into his chest. "Whoever did this is so cruel. It's like they stabbed a knife into my heart!"
Michael gently patted her back, though his expression was icy. "No matter who it is, I'll make sure they regret it. Don't worry, Francis will be fine."
He continued to comfort her until she finally fell asleep in his arms.
Hearing her steady breathing, Michael carefully carried her to the bedroom and laid her down gently.
He quietly closed the door and went downstairs.
"Susan, where's the package?"
Dean approached. "I threw the box in the trash. The kitten has been buried."
Michael frowned. "I need the shipping information from that box."
Dean pulled out his phone. "I took a picture of it. I'll send it to you."
At the police station, Michael found Police Chief Lavern Almanza.
"Chief Almanza, my family received a threatening package containing a dead kitten. I need the police to find out who did this. Our child is critically ill in the hospital, and someone sent this to his mother. It's a blatant curse! I need to know who is behind this!"
Lavern recorded the information. "Mr. Thomas, don't worry. We'll investigate this immediately and give you and your family an answer."
Michael left, and Lavern saw him to the door.
The driver took Michael back to the hospital. Elizabeth was resting at home, and he needed to stay with Francis.
He knew that as soon as Elizabeth woke up, she would return to the hospital.
He didn't want her to be so exhausted, but he understood that as long as Francis was in danger, Elizabeth wouldn't be at peace.
Meanwhile, at Louis' apartment, Eloise was in the kitchen making soup, with Louis patiently guiding her.
Since Eloise had regained her mental clarity, she often visited Louis.
She stirred the soup slowly with a ladle.
"Louis, have you completely moved out of your parents' house? Don't you need to go back?"
"I'm an adult now. Living with my parents every day is inconvenient. Like when you visit, I always have to explain your presence to my mom."
Eloise nodded. "That does sound troublesome."
Louis adjusted the flame. "Why did you suddenly want to learn how to make soup?"
"I heard from Clio that women need to drink soup after giving birth. It helps replenish their bodies and produce milk."
Louis was surprised. "Eloise, is this soup for Elizabeth?"
Eloise found his reaction odd. "Of course. Elizabeth just had a baby, and she's probably very weak. Michael doesn't know how to take care of a new mother."
Louis looked at Eloise, feeling a mix of emotions.
In the past, Eloise had always followed Michael around like a shadow, without any thoughts of her own.
Back then, Louis didn't think much of her. To him, she was just a simple-minded woman.
But as Eloise started visiting him more often, and they spent more time together, Louis began to see her as a kind and sincere person.
He grew to like her more and more. Her heart was pure, like a crystal-clear stream.
The soup was ready. Eloise poured it into a thermos that Louis had prepared. "Louis, let's go see Elizabeth together."
Louis felt a pang of conflict. He had liked Elizabeth for so many years. Back in Valoria, he had silently watched over her, hoping she would notice his devotion.
But as time passed, he realized that Elizabeth was moving further away from him, while he remained in the same place. She would never see him.
His so-called deep affection was probably only touching to himself.
One reason he moved out was to avoid his parents' constant pressure to find a girlfriend and get married.
He knew that even if Elizabeth never married, she would never choose him.
He was a stubborn person, and once he set his heart on someone, it was hard to change.
For years, he had always put Elizabeth first. After returning to the country, he watched as she grew closer to Michael. He knew he shouldn't interfere.
After all, Michael was well aware of his feelings.
He didn't want to cause any misunderstandings or trouble for Elizabeth.
Eloise looked at him, her eyes searching his face. "Louis?"
Louis snapped out of his thoughts. "Eloise, can you ask Clio or a bodyguard to go with you? I have some things to take care of."
Eloise stared at him, her eyes unblinking, as if trying to see into his soul.
"Louis, you still like Elizabeth. You don't want to see her with Michael, do you?"
