Chapter 287 Only Has One Bed

Eloise's face lit up with joy as she beamed at the two of them.

She shook Michael's large hand and said, "This is awesome, Michael! You and Elizabeth can be together again!"

Michael glanced at Elizabeth to see her reaction, but she was just sitting there, lost in thought.

Seeing this, he stood up and pulled her to her feet. "Let's go."

Elizabeth snapped out of her daze. "Where to?" she asked.

Michael replied, "To the hospital. I won't be at ease until you get checked out."

This time, Elizabeth didn't resist. Calla's push had made her stumble quite a bit.

Given that her pregnancy was still unstable, a check-up was a good idea.

In the ultrasound room at the hospital, the doctor was examining Elizabeth's uterus with a probe.

Michael asked, "Why is your belly still flat?"

Hearing this, both Elizabeth and the doctor laughed.

The doctor explained, "The embryo is still very small. You won't see any changes in the abdomen yet. By the fifth or sixth month, you'll notice the belly growing. You'll also start to feel the baby moving. It's quite fascinating."

On the way back, Michael was unusually quiet.

Elizabeth asked him, "What's wrong? The check-up results were all normal. Why aren't you happy?"

Michael shook his head. "It's not that I'm unhappy. I just feel a bit foolish."

Elizabeth was stunned. Michael, who always had such high self-esteem, admitted he felt foolish.

Michael was thinking back to when Elizabeth was pregnant with Nolan and Pearl. If he had been just a bit more attentive, he would have noticed the signs of her pregnancy.

No matter how hard she tried to hide it, a six or seven-month baby bump would have been hard to miss.

Besides, they had even been intimate during that time.

How could he have been so oblivious, so foolish? How did she manage to keep it from him?

Thinking of this, he gave Elizabeth a directive. "You're too weak. Starting tomorrow, I'm going to help you exercise."

Elizabeth immediately refused. "That's not necessary! I'm perfectly healthy!"

Michael lifted her effortlessly over his shoulder as he said, "You're so light. I can carry you with one hand. If you encounter a bad guy, you'd be easily taken away."

Elizabeth struggled to get down and screamed "Then I'll just eat more!"

Michael's voice softened. "Elizabeth, don't make me worry."

Elizabeth couldn't handle his gentle tone. "Alright."

The next morning, Michael arrived early at Whispering Pines Estates.

He didn't ring the doorbell, not wanting to wake them up.

He called Elizabeth.

"What do you want?" she answered, annoyance sharp in her voice. "Calling so early, you jerk!"

Michael chuckled. "We agreed to exercise together. Get up and come to the park for a morning run with me."

Elizabeth snuggled deeper into her blankets, not wanting to move. She said, "I changed my mind. I'm not going."

Michael said, "Open the door."

Elizabeth replied slowly, "I don't want to get up."

Michael was patient. "I'll wait," he said.

However, Elizabeth tossed her phone aside and went back to sleep, leaving Michael waiting outside.

After a while, Sarah arrived.

She was surprised to see Michael in his workout clothes. "Mr. Thomas, are you here for a morning workout?"

Michael gave her a look and said, "You're back from your honeymoon?"

Sarah, sensing no trap in his question, answered, "Yes, just got back. I missed Elizabeth, so I came to have breakfast with her."

She then glanced at Michael and asked, "Mr. Thomas, aren't you going in?"

Michael was puzzled. Elizabeth hadn't let him in, so how could he?

Sarah smirked, leaned her head towards the facial recognition system, and the door opened.

But she quickly slipped inside and shut the door behind her.

Michael was left standing there, feeling frustrated.

Why did Sarah have access here, but he didn't?

It wasn't fair!

Michael waited until it was almost time for work, but Elizabeth still hadn't come out.

Reluctantly, he left for the office.

He'd have to find a way to deal with Elizabeth another day.

That evening, Michael went to the Jones Group.

The receptionist recognized him and let him through without question.

Michael made his way straight to the CEO's office.

Elizabeth, seeing him, thought she was hallucinating.

She rubbed her eyes and asked, "Michael, what are you doing here?"

Michael sat down on the sofa opposite her, crossing his long legs elegantly.

Seeing him there brought back some blush-inducing memories for Elizabeth. She quickly looked down.

Michael said, "I had no choice. You promised to exercise but then hid away. I had to come find you."

Elizabeth pointed to the setting sun outside. "The sun's almost down. It's not a good time to exercise."

Michael replied, "We'll go hiking. We can watch the sunrise tomorrow morning."

Elizabeth's face fell. "I have bad memories of hiking. I don't want to go," she said.

Michael stood up and pulled her along. "It's okay. I'll be with you this time."

They headed to Owl Mountain, which was on the outskirts of the city. The mountain had two small peaks on its east and west sides.

By the time they reached halfway up, Elizabeth was out of breath.

Seeing this, Michael crouched down and said, "Hop on, I'll carry you."

Elizabeth looked around. There weren't many people, just a few couples likely there to watch the sunrise.

But she still felt awkward about Michael carrying her.

She said, "It's a bit embarrassing. I'll walk slowly on my own."

However, Michael stood up and took her hand. "We've made love so many times, what's embarrassing about carrying you up a mountain?"

Hearing this, Elizabeth jumped up to cover his mouth. "What are you saying!"

Michael asked, "Did I say something wrong?"

Elizabeth decided to ignore him, but Michael held her hand as they continued up the mountain.

The higher they went, the darker it got.

Getting scared, Elizabeth clung tightly to Michael. "Michael, it's getting dark."

Michael patted her hand. "Don't worry. I'm here."

By the time they reached the top, it was completely dark.

Michael took her to a hotel at the summit.

The receptionist said, "We only have one room left, and it only has one bed."

Michael replied, "We'll take it."

He turned to Elizabeth and asked, "Is that okay?"

Elizabeth thought, 'Can I really say no? Aright. Sharing a bed is better than freezing to death on the mountain!'

They got the key and the staff led them to the room.

Once inside, they saw it was surprisingly small.

There was just a table, a chair, and a very narrow single bed.

No wonder the receptionist emphasized "only one bed."

This bed would be a tight fit for two people.

Michael said, "You rest for a bit. I'll see if there's any hot water."

On the mountain, resources were scarce.

Michael soon returned with hot water.

He poured a cup of warm water for Elizabeth and got a basin, filling it with hot water. He placed her feet in the basin and gently massaged them.

Elizabeth felt a bit embarrassed. "I can do it myself," she said.

Yet Michael continued, undeterred. "You walked a lot. Your feet must be tired. Soaking them will help you relax and sleep better."

His gentle touch was indeed soothing.

He looked up at her, his gaze intense.

However, Elizabeth thought, 'Why do I feel like he's about to devour me any second?'
