Chapter 363 Revealing the Truth
The host glanced at Pearl, who looked back, puzzled. "Miss, who is this?"
The audience was already buzzing with whispers.
If this was Elizabeth, Pearl's mom, why didn't Pearl recognize her?
The host, seasoned and composed, asked gently, "Pearl, do you know this woman?"
Pearl shook her head. "No, but she looks a lot like my mom."
Her clear eyes showed no hint of lying.
The host seized on this key point and pressed on, "Pearl, isn't this your mom?"
Pearl's eyes widened in disbelief. "No way! My mom had a C-section when she had me, and she has a long scar on her stomach. But this lady's stomach is smooth."
The audience gasped.
So, Pearl's mom really was Elizabeth!
Now, everyone got it. The woman in that scandalous video going around wasn't Elizabeth at all! Someone had pretended to be her to ruin her reputation.
Everyone now knew Elizabeth was the victim. They had all misunderstood her!
In the live chat, someone posted: [I was scared to say it before, but now I can. Elizabeth reported this to the police days ago. The Aurora Bay police reviewed the footage and cleared her name. The woman in the video had surgery to look like Elizabeth. Who knows what her motive was.]
The next morning, the Aurora Bay police released a statement on their website.
[After investigation, the woman in the viral video is confirmed not to be Ms. Elizabeth Jones. The actual person involved remains unidentified due to privacy concerns.]
Carter immediately shared the police statement. It was clear to everyone that he was standing up for Elizabeth.
His fans also shared it, showing their support.
Under the post, countless people left comments apologizing to Elizabeth.
[Oh my God! What have I done? Elizabeth is innocent, and I even insulted her!]
[Ms. Jones must have been under so much pressure these past few days. And isn't she pregnant? The person behind this didn't care if they caused her to miscarry?]
[Could it be that their goal was to stress her out to the point of losing the baby?]
[This is terrifying! I almost became an accomplice. I'm so sorry, Elizabeth.]
[I knew it! How could someone as sweet and innocent as Pearl have a horrible mom?]
[That might be harsh, but it's true.]
[In any case, the whole internet owes Elizabeth an apology.]
Elizabeth had been holding onto her anger for days. Even after confronting Octavia, she didn't feel any relief.
With Carter sharing the police statement, people started apologizing to her, and she finally felt a bit better.
But she was still a little frustrated.
Dean noticed her low spirits and asked, "Elizabeth, are you still mad at Michael?"
Elizabeth immediately moved away. "Why would I waste my energy being mad at him? Who is he to me anyway?"
Dean shook his head quietly, exasperated.
She was clearly in denial.
Michael had been unreliable, not believing in Elizabeth, so it was no wonder she was upset.
In contrast, look at what Carter did.
The scandal had been spreading online for days. Carter didn't call Elizabeth. He never doubted her for a second.
He chose to protect her in his own way, standing by her side.
Even when the internet was filled with hate, he publicly declared that Elizabeth was his ideal girlfriend.
Dean had always disliked Carter, thinking he was just a pretty face with no substance.
But this incident changed his mind. Carter stood by Elizabeth under immense pressure, showing his true feelings for her.
Dean thought, 'If I were Elizabeth, I would choose Carter over Michael. Michael is a jerk and can't be trusted.'
But Elizabeth seemed to have a masochistic streak. Despite how poorly Michael treated her, she still thought about him.
The doorbell rang. Carter had brought Pearl back.
Elizabeth rushed to the door to greet them.
Pearl, who hadn't seen Elizabeth in a while, threw herself into her arms, holding her carefully and looking up with tear-filled eyes. "Mom, I missed you so much."
Elizabeth stroked her head. "I missed you too, Pearl. Let's not be apart for so long again, okay?"
Pearl wiped her tears and let go. "But Mom, I still love going to the show with Mr. McGinnis. What should I do? Oh, Mr. McGinnis is still outside!"
Carter walked in quietly, looking a bit nervous. "Elizabeth, I'm sorry for mentioning you to the media without your permission. I didn't mean to cause you any trouble..."
Elizabeth smiled and raised her hand to stop him. "Carter, it's been a while. Come in with Pearl. It's hot outside."
Carter followed her inside, wanting to say more but holding back.
Once inside, the servants brought drinks. Carter's eyes stayed on Elizabeth.
He was no longer the composed man he was in front of the media, anxiously waiting for her reaction.
He knew she didn't like being mentioned publicly.
Elizabeth handed him a coffee cup. "Carter, thank you for taking care of Pearl this past month. You did a great job."
Carter took the cup, his eyes fixed on hers. "Elizabeth, are you mad at me?"
Elizabeth smiled. "Carter, I'm not unreasonable. I know you did it to clear my name. I understand you meant well. How could I be mad at you?"
She continued, "Without you, even if the police cleared me, people online would still attack me. Thank you for believing in me unconditionally."
Carter's eyes lit up. The heart he had been holding in suspense could finally rest easy.
But before he could relax, Elizabeth added, "But..."
Carter immediately sat up straight, his eyes nervously watching her.
