Chapter 419 Wishing to Tear Him Apart
Far away in Celestria, Dean was fuming when he got the news. "Damn it, Michael! He hurt Elizabeth again! So those rumors online were true!"
Daniel, who was beside him, wondered why he was so angry. "What's wrong with my boss again?"
Dean snapped, "He lied to Elizabeth! He's engaged to Margaret!"
Daniel was shocked. He had thought Michael would soon marry Elizabeth. He had even been looking forward to working with Dean for the couple. How did things fall apart so suddenly?
Oh, right, it was Michael who broke the promise.
He felt embarrassed for Michael.
Dean was already dialing Sarah.
"Sarah, where are you? You need to check on Elizabeth. That jerk Michael deceived her and got engaged to Margaret!"
Sarah couldn't believe what she was hearing. "Dean, are you sure you're not drunk and imagining things? Michael and Margaret getting married? Has he lost his mind?"
"I'm not drunk, and I'm not hearing things. You heard me right. That jerk Michael hurt Elizabeth again! I'm in Celestria and can't get back right away. You're closer, so please go check on her."
Sarah put her phone on speaker and started changing clothes. "Okay, I'm heading over now."
She hung up, grabbed her keys, and rushed out the door.
When Sarah arrived at Elizabeth's house, Susan was already waiting for her. Before she could ring the doorbell, Susan opened the door.
"Sarah, Elizabeth is upstairs."
Sarah nodded. "Thanks, Susan. I'll go check on her."
She quickly went upstairs and gently pushed open Elizabeth's bedroom door.
As Sarah had expected, Elizabeth was lying on her bed, tears streaming into her hair. She stared blankly at the ceiling, as if nothing around her mattered.
Seeing her like this, Sarah was reminded of her own time after her divorce from David. She had also spent days in a similar state, eyes vacant, spirit broken, uninterested in anything.
Fortunately, her parents had been there for her. She had also been accepted into the school she wanted to attend, and the busy student life had helped distract her from the pain of her divorce.
Elizabeth needed something to take her mind off things now.
Sarah sat on the edge of the bed and spoke softly, "Elizabeth, are you feeling really sad?"
Elizabeth sat up when she heard her voice and looked at her. "Sarah, you're here."
Sarah walked over and hugged her gently. "Elizabeth, I'm here for you. Dean is on his way too. We're all here for you and the kids."
Elizabeth wiped her tears and nodded. "I'm lucky to have you all. Michael can go to hell. I don't need him."
Sarah looked at her. "Elizabeth, I know you're hurting. It's okay to cry. Holding it in will only make it worse. Let it all out, and then try to move on. You have your kids, and you need to be a positive role model for them."
Elizabeth nodded. "I understand. Since he's made his choice, I won't dwell on the past."
Sarah's voice softened. "I'm going back home in a few days."
Elizabeth was taken aback. "Why? Did something happen?"
"Have you heard? David's getting married too. I'm heading back to see that shameless couple's wedding and also to attend David's. He found a fiancée so quickly. I need to congratulate him."
"Plus, my parents are back home. With school not too demanding right now, I can spend some quality time with them. I used to be so busy with school and relationships that I didn't spend enough time with them. Now I realize they're getting old, and I don't know how many more years they'll be around." Sarah's voice choked up.
Elizabeth hugged her. "Sarah, we both need to live well."
Sarah looked at her with tears and a smile. "Yes, we both need to live well. Let's go see the kids. You've been through so much. I can't imagine how sad Pearl must be."
Meanwhile, in Celestria, at Aurora Bay, Michael was calling to arrange a meeting with Margaret.
"Michael, I'm not being dramatic. I hope you understand how I feel. I don't want to be seen in public. I don't want my face exposed to everyone."
Michael understood and agreed to meet at Margaret's apartment.
Margaret still wore a mask, her head bowed. She was no longer the proud PR manager of Stellar Enterprises.
Michael sat on the couch, his long legs crossed.
"Margaret, have you thought about who is responsible for your current state?"
Margaret looked up. "I have. I know. Samuel told me. The fire was your doing."
Michael's eyes narrowed. "And you don't hate me? If it weren't for that fire, you wouldn't be like this."
Margaret shook her head. "I don't blame you. Your intention was to kill Samuel. I was collateral damage. I know you didn't mean to destroy me."
Michael sneered. "Margaret, you think too highly of yourself. You caused my son to be born prematurely. You caused my sister's death. I want nothing more than to see you suffer. And you still want to marry me?"
Margaret sighed. "Michael, you know I have no place in the Taylor family now. Even my own parents see me as nothing more than a tool for alliances. They never truly loved me. It's funny."
She laughed bitterly and continued, "The most genuine, carefree days of my life were at Stellar Enterprises. You didn't love me, but you respected and understood me. You never wore a mask around me."
She looked at him. "Michael, I don't expect you to forgive me, let alone love me. I know that's impossible. Samuel wants me to marry you to humiliate you and to spy on you. But I'm sorry, Michael, I can't refuse him. I have no income, and I can't get a job. I have to rely on him and the Taylor family."
Michael stared at her, his eyes scrutinizing. "Margaret, do you hate Samuel?"
Margaret's eyes flashed with anger. "I want to tear him apart. The more I relied on him before, the more I hate him now."
"How can I trust you? You're siblings. He almost killed me for you. Have you forgotten?"
Margaret laughed bitterly. "Michael, do you really think he did that for me? He was just using me as an excuse. Even I was fooled!"
Michael said, "Tell me your goal."
