Chapter 86 Do You Think You Can Survive?
Margaret kept crying, "How could I not hate you? I've loved him for so many years. How can I just let go? But..." She looked up at him with tear-filled eyes, "You're my brother."
Samuel was moved and then he turned off the phone signal jammer in the room.
Elizabeth lost count of how many times she fell before finally finding Michael unconscious under a tree.
His arms, back, and legs were covered in blood.
With trembling hands, Elizabeth fumbled her phone out of her pocket to call for emergency help.
Her voice shook as she spoke. "Hello, is this the emergency center? We're at Everpeak Mountain. Someone is injured here. Please come quickly."
After hanging up, Elizabeth gently removed Michael's torn clothes, ripped open his shirt sleeve, and checked his injuries.
Michael's injuries didn't seem too serious.
Elizabeth was more worried about internal injuries, especially the head injury.
Why else would he be unconscious? Could it be related to his previous car accident injuries?
She feared Michael might fall into a coma again and not wake up. She kept praying.
Just then, Michael woke up.
When he opened his eyes, he saw Elizabeth by his side, crying.
He gently raised his hand and wiped the tears from her face. "Elizabeth, don't cry."
Elizabeth sobbed, "Michael, why are you hurt again? Why did you foolishly walk such a dangerous path alone?"
Michael replied, "Where were you just now? I heard someone say you fell from here. And the only thing in my mind was to rush down to save you. I have to protect you."
Hearing this, Elizabeth realized it was the same thought she had when she heard Michael was injured.
She called the bodyguard over to help Michael up slowly.
Elizabeth bombarded him with concerned questions. "Michael, are you dizzy? Does your head hurt? Does standing up affect your body? Is there any restricted movement or severe pain?"
Michael gently moved his limbs, shook his head, and said soothingly, "Don't worry, it's just some superficial wounds. I'm fine."
Elizabeth firmly supported Michael without saying another word.
Suddenly, Samuel's phone rang. He answered it.
The person on the other end sounded urgent. "Mr. Taylor, Michael was rescued by someone."
After hanging up, Samuel angrily threw his phone onto the bed. "He actually survived. Lucky him."
Margaret looked at Samuel and asked, "Samuel, Michael didn't die?"
Samuel sneered, "Yeah, Margaret, your wish came true. Now, I'm the one in trouble. Your Michael is fine."
Margaret seemed to finally relax and collapsed onto the sofa.
She lowered her head and said, "Samuel, you should leave. Since Michael is fine, once he wakes up, he'll come after you. You know how he deals with people who cross him. Do you think you'll survive?"
Samuel hesitated for a second, then immediately called Aaron. "Book me a cable car ticket down the mountain, quick."
He then ordered, "Wait for me at the mountain entrance right now."
After scrambling to pack everything up, he grabbed his suitcase and headed for the door.
"Margaret, I came to Aurora Bay to help you out. But I messed up, I'm sorry," Samuel said.
Margaret looked at him with tearful eyes. "Don't say anything, just go."
Samuel hurriedly left. Margaret collapsed onto the sofa, exhausted.
Elizabeth, with bodyguards in tow, escorted Michael down the mountain.
The bodyguards helped Michael onto the ambulance.
Elizabeth didn't go with them. She chose to stay because there were still many employees of the Jones Group on the mountain.
After all, she was still the person in charge.
Samuel, as the mastermind behind this whole mess, had picked the location. He must know the area well.
With everything that happened, Samuel couldn't dodge responsibility.
Elizabeth wanted to confront him.
She went to Samuel's room and knocked on the door. Margaret answered.
"Margaret, why are you here? Where's Samuel?" Elizabeth asked.
Margaret, holding a glass of wine, walked to the window and looked out at the scenery.
She gently swirled the wine in her glass and said absentmindedly, "I let him go."
Hearing this, Elizabeth stepped forward and asked, "Why did you do this? So, this was really Samuel's plan? He wanted to get rid of Michael today?"
"Yes," Margaret took a sip of wine and smiled bitterly, "but he failed. So I let him go. Otherwise, Michael would kill him. Elizabeth, look outside, the mountain scenery is beautiful. Perfect for outings and dates. But for so many years, I've always watched the scenery alone. Michael never stayed by my side. I've spent over a decade in loneliness and rejected everyone else. From a young age, I left my family and hometown to follow Michael. Over the years, I've resolved countless PR crises for the company. I've given him all my feelings and completely abandoned my own life."
She sobbed as she continued, "Samuel felt it was unfair for me and sought revenge. I've let him go. I'll bear all the blame. I'll stay and face Michael's anger and accept the legal punishment. Just ask him to spare the Taylor Family and Samuel. And don't upset my father, he is in poor health."
After saying this, Margaret was already in tears. She sat on the sofa desperately.
She tilted her head back and drank the wine in one gulp, then she laughed and cried.
"Elizabeth, you won. I lost completely. You won Michael's heart, something I couldn't do for so many years," Margaret whimpered.
Elizabeth remained silent. She couldn't predict her own future with Michael.
Moreover, this was just a matter of human emotions, not a war.
So, it didn't matter who won or lost.
Margaret continued, "Elizabeth, I have to tell you something. Samuel invested in your company because of me. The promised $500 million was just bait to lure you into the plot. He wanted to win you over to hurt Michael. But you didn't fall for it. Now, he's gone, and you won't get that $500 million. Are you happy now?"
