Chapter 248 Learning the Truth

Michael never really trusted Calla and kept looking for a doctor for Eloise. To him, Calla was just a backup plan.

Meanwhile, Michael was still arguing with Mary. "I only got with her because she could help Eloise. What feelings could I possibly have for her? Even if she's pregnant, it was just a drunken mistake. It's not what I wanted."

Mary shot back, "You don't have to marry Calla, but you need the kid she's carrying! Do you really want to grow old alone?"

Michael looked her straight in the eye and said, "No. Eloise will always be with me. I don't have to get married."

Mary shook her head, "You bastard."

Calla overheard this and quietly tiptoed back to her room, closing the door softly and sitting down to think of a plan.

In the president's office of the Jones Group, Elizabeth hung up the phone with Carter.

She then called Sarah, "Sarah, I need a favor."

Sarah replied, "Sure, what do you need?"

Elizabeth continued, "I need a reliable bodyguard for the kids and a servant for the house. Dean and I are often not home, and there's no one to watch the kids and cook."

Sarah said, "No problem. Leave it to me. I'll make sure you're happy with it."

Elizabeth smiled, "I knew I could count on you."

"Wait for my good news. By the way, why didn't I see you at Michael's engagement party?" Sarah asked.

Elizabeth replied, "I didn't get an invitation."

"What? Michael was so heartless! You were married, and he didn't even send you an invite?" Sarah exclaimed.

Elizabeth shrugged, "It's okay. I don't care."

Sarah said, "You could have gone to annoy Calla in person!"

Elizabeth sighed, "Forget it. It's pointless."

"Elizabeth, you sound down. What's up? Did something happen?" Sarah asked, concerned.

Elizabeth replied, "Nothing, Sarah. Don't worry about me. I'm fine. Dean just shared some good news about the company's robot orders increasing."

Sarah got excited, "That's awesome! Elizabeth, I never thought you'd get in touch with Carter! He's such a big star, an idol to so many people, the dream guy of countless women! And he posted to help you in the middle of the night! I'm really curious, how did you meet him?"

Elizabeth rubbed her forehead, feeling a headache coming on. "Sarah, this..."

She was cut off by Sarah, "I know! This kind of thing must be kept secret! But I still want to talk about today's gossip! You missed a good show at Michael's engagement party."

Elizabeth thought to herself, 'While you're all watching the show from the front, I'm seeing the backstage drama.'

Sarah continued, "At today's engagement party, Michael didn't show up at all. Calla waited alone in the banquet hall for ages. Later, she ran out crying with her dress lifted. Mary and the eldest son of the Thomas family had to clean up the mess. Just watch, Calla will be the talk of the Aurora Bay socialite circle again. Everyone knows she's been trying to marry into the Thomas family every day."

Elizabeth couldn't bring herself to laugh at Calla.

After all, she had been through such embarrassing moments herself.

Even if Calla schemed against Michael, he shouldn't have left her alone like that, making her face everyone's suspicion and ridicule.

She couldn't help but curse Michael in her heart once more.

In the old Thomas mansion, Michael's phone rang. He answered it.

"Okay, I understand," he said, barely able to contain his excitement.

Mary, sensing something big, asked urgently, "What happened?"

Michael grabbed her hand and said, "I think I'm about to find that amazing doctor I told you about."

With that, he left the house with his bodyguards and driver in tow.

He got in the car and instructed the driver, "Go to the villa and pick up Eloise."

Half Mountain Manor was a secluded place nestled in the mountains and forests. It was far from the hustle and bustle, and almost no one visited on regular days.

Inside the manor, Carter was doing his rehab exercises.

He had just talked to Elizabeth on the phone. Her words had fired him up. He wanted to recover to his former self as soon as possible and show her the best version of him.

The doorbell rang urgently. Carter looked at the butler in confusion, but the butler just shrugged, clueless about who could be visiting.

Carter stopped his exercises and looked at the intercom.

A man's face appeared on the screen, with a woman of similar age standing next to him.

Carter frowned slightly but decided to let them in.

Michael brought Eloise to Carter. Looking at the young, handsome face, he felt a sense of familiarity.

Suddenly, he remembered seeing a photo of Carter on Elizabeth's phone. It seemed she had been a fan of Carter for a long time.

Carter spoke first, "It must have taken a lot of effort to find this place, right?"

Michael pulled Eloise closer. "Mr. McGinnis, I'm sorry to disturb you. I'm Michael Thomas from Stellar Enterprises. This is my sister, Eloise Thomas," he said.

"Mr. Thomas, hello. So, what brings you here?" Carter asked.

Michael replied, "As you can see, my sister urgently needs an excellent brain surgeon. I heard that you had an accident three years ago, were in a coma for a long time, and only fully recovered after a doctor performed surgery on you."

Carter nodded, "Yes. I was lucky to meet her."

Michael asked, "Mr. McGinnis, the doctor who performed the surgery was a woman?"

Carter quickly covered his mouth.

Michael's tone became urgent. "Mr. McGinnis, I beg you; for the sake of my poor sister, tell me who this doctor is."

Carter said, "I'm very sorry. She instructed me not to reveal her name."

Michael said, "A true healer is dedicated to the world; how could she not want others to know her name?"

"She no longer practices medicine. She's a businesswoman now," Carter said.

Hearing this, Michael felt a strange sense of familiarity.

He said, "Mr. McGinnis, have you ever heard of Professor Emily? I once asked Ms. Johnson for years, and she finally developed a treatment plan for my sister before she passed away. Unfortunately, she couldn't perform the surgery herself. She contacted me before she died, asking me to find her student to perform the surgery for Eloise. But I could never find this person."

When Carter heard him mention Emily, he was already shaken. His family had also sought out Emily, and Elizabeth was Emily's student.

He looked at the confused Eloise and felt compassion for her.

He said, "Mr. Thomas, I guess the student Ms. Johnson mentioned is my attending physician, Elizabeth."

Hearing this familiar name, Michael was stunned. "Elizabeth?"

Eloise remained calm.

Carter asked, "Do you know her?"

Michael tried to control his expression and replied, "She's my ex-wife!"
