Chapter 489 Negotiation
It seemed that William was even more of a pain than Jesse. He was definitely tougher to deal with.
If Elizabeth wanted to see Quinn, she had no choice but to negotiate with William.
"Mr. Thomas, why don't you just tell me what you want in exchange for letting me see Quinn?"
"Ms. Jones, why didn't you say that earlier?"
Elizabeth was frustrated and didn't want to engage with him.
"Ms. Jones, it's hard to communicate over the phone. This is something we should discuss in person. Don't you think?"
Elizabeth was at a disadvantage and had to agree. "Fine."
William spoke up, "Then we should—"
Elizabeth cut him off, "I'll decide the time and place."
William, interrupted, sighed, "Alright! I don't have anything else to do right now anyway."
After hanging up, Elizabeth sent William a message with the agreed time and place.
Almost immediately, William replied: [By the way, Ms. Jones, Anthony said he refuses to meet at a coffee shop.]
Anthony was being childish. Clearly, he had told William about their meeting.
Elizabeth responded: [Fine.]
They arranged to meet at a dessert shop near Whispering Pines Estates.
William was puzzled and asked: [Aren't you afraid Michael might see you?]
Elizabeth scoffed and replied: [I'm not doing anything wrong. So what if he sees me?]
William didn't reply for a while.
In truth, Elizabeth was quite nervous. She couldn't let William know the real reason.
She chose the location near Whispering Pines Estates in case Michael came looking for her. If he found out she wasn't home, she could quickly return.
Besides, Michael didn't like sweets and never visited dessert shops. She had nothing to worry about.
On the agreed date, Elizabeth arrived at the dessert shop and sat in a booth, waiting for William.
William arrived with Anthony.
Elizabeth hoped to resolve things peacefully without causing more trouble.
After all, Eloise was William's younger sister. If possible, she wanted William or Anthony to help Eloise.
"William, do you remember Eloise?"
William was shocked, "Eloise? Isn't she dead? I attended her funeral."
"She's not dead. She's still alive, but her health is poor. William, would you and Anthony be willing to help her?"
William and Anthony exchanged glances, both unsure of what Elizabeth meant.
Anthony frowned, "Elizabeth, just get to the point. You and your husband Michael are like cunning foxes. I don't want to play games with you."
William, however, remained calm, "Ms. Jones, are you sure Eloise is alive?"
Elizabeth nodded, "I'm sure."
Anthony was about to lose his temper, but William held him back.
William looked at Elizabeth with a cold smile, "Ms. Jones, I think Michael would be more eager to help Eloise, wouldn't he? They grew up together and have an unbreakable bond. Although Eloise's my sister, we haven't been close. So, if you want us to help her, you need to tell us why she needs our help."
Elizabeth hesitated for a moment but decided to tell him, "Michael can't help. They're not biological siblings, as you know."
Anthony stood up, "Elizabeth! Do you want our help or not? Speak clearly!"
Elizabeth looked at him and said slowly, "Anthony, would you be willing to donate a kidney to your aunt?"
Both Anthony and William were stunned.
William couldn't believe it, "Ms. Jones, what did you say? Donate a kidney? Why? Does Eloise have kidney disease? Is she dying?"
Anthony laughed sarcastically, "Elizabeth, so that's why you've been seeking us out! No wonder you're not afraid of Michael finding out. He won't donate a kidney to Eloise, so you want us to do it? Dream on! Eloise is just my aunt in name. We've never been close. Even if we were, I wouldn't donate to her! She'd always side with Michael over me!"
He crossed his arms and sat back down, glaring out the window.
Compared to Anthony's anger, William remained composed. He spoke slowly, "Elizabeth, you want us to donate a kidney to Eloise? Anthony is young and hasn't started a family. Losing a kidney could affect his future. So he can't donate."
William shook his head, "I can't donate either. I'm old and don't have many years left. Losing a kidney could hasten my decline."
"Besides, Eloise has already had two surgeries. Her body might not withstand another. If she received my old kidney, she'd need another transplant soon. That would be too troublesome; it's better to solve it once and for all."
Elizabeth waited for him to continue, "Once and for all?"
William finished his coffee, "Yes. We need a young, compatible donor with minimal rejection risk."
Anthony caught on, "Quinn?"
William nodded, "Yes, Quinn. He's Eloise's twin. His kidney would be the best match."
Elizabeth tested him, "Do you really think so?"
Anthony sneered, "Elizabeth, was this your plan all along? You want to see Quinn to ask him to donate a kidney to my aunt?"
Elizabeth ignored him.
William continued, "Ms. Jones, Quinn is my brother. He doesn't have full legal capacity, and I'm his guardian. I have to ensure his safety and protect his rights."
Elizabeth nodded, "I understand. That's why I'm discussing this with you. When can I see Quinn? I need his consent."
Anthony scoffed, "He's a fool living under our care. He does whatever we say! Why ask for his consent?"
William gave Anthony a look, signaling him to be quiet.
