Chapter 542 Enemies Meet
The bodyguard quickly waved his hands, "No, no. I didn't betray you, Ms. Jones."
Elizabeth, exhausted, slumped on the couch and asked weakly, "Then what did you do?"
The bodyguard swallowed hard and said with difficulty, "Ms. Jones, I told Nolan about you being kidnapped by Victor."
Elizabeth shot up from the couch, eyes wide open, "Why did you tell Nolan? He's just a kid! You know how impulsive he is!"
The bodyguard was almost ready to kneel before Elizabeth.
"Ms. Jones, I didn't plan to tell him. I was just trying to convince him to leave Majestic City quickly. I told him this place is different, it's the Murphy family's territory, and his identity could put him in danger."
Elizabeth frowned, "That sounds reasonable."
"Exactly! That's what I said. But Nolan didn't believe me! So I told him, even your mom, an adult, could get kidnapped, let alone a kid like him."
The bodyguard avoided Elizabeth's piercing gaze and continued, "As soon as Nolan heard that, he pressed me for details. So, I told him everything."
The bodyguard's voice grew quieter, and his head hung lower, "Nolan said he wants to make Victor pay."
Elizabeth lay back down on the couch, closed her eyes, and sighed.
"Forget it, Nolan would find out sooner or later. No one can stop him. You go rest. If there's nothing urgent, I won't call you. Sleep well."
The bodyguard asked worriedly, "Ms. Jones, you really won't dock my pay?"
Elizabeth, with a headache, waved him off, "Just go!"
At the Murphy Castle, Cordelia and Michael's residence.
Cordelia hadn't slept since Michael left. She knew he hadn't returned to the guest room but had left the castle.
Cordelia heard him return and forced herself to sit up. She pressed the bell, and a maid came in to help her out of bed.
"Has Michael returned?"
"Ms. Murphy, Mr. Thomas just got back. He's taking a shower."
"Alright. Help me to the guest room."
Michael emerged from the bathroom, a towel wrapped around his waist. He was drying his hair while searching for clothes in the wardrobe.
He didn't expect Cordelia to be sitting by the bed, watching him.
"Michael, you're awake?"
Cordelia's sudden voice startled Michael.
"Cordelia, why are you here? You're injured, you shouldn't be moving around. You need to rest."
"Michael, it's still early, why aren't you sleeping?"
"I didn't sleep. I just got back from outside."
Michael had no intention of hiding anything from Cordelia; he knew it was pointless. His whereabouts would be reported to her by those around him. So, lying was meaningless.
Cordelia hadn't expected Michael to be so blunt. She had already seen the red marks on his neck and shoulders, evidence of his intimacy with another woman.
Cordelia's hands clenched tightly under her nightgown sleeves, her body trembling slightly.
She wanted to loudly question Michael, why he would rather seek out other women than touch her, his wife.
She was also curious if the woman he had just been with was Elizabeth.
Gerald and Victor's actions had shown her that men were not loyal creatures.
Victor's wife had initially fought with him daily over his escapades, but eventually, she gave up. Now, she only cared about Victor's money, not where he spent his nights.
Cordelia had always believed Michael was different from Gerald and Victor. Since he married her, he wouldn't betray her.
But now, it seemed the person Michael wouldn't betray was Elizabeth, not her.
He would even avoid touching her for Elizabeth's sake.
Cordelia took a deep breath and spoke softly, "Michael, have you seen Elizabeth recently?"
Michael didn't stop dressing, "Why are you bringing her up?"
Cordelia couldn't look at him, "I heard she offended Dad and Victor. I'm worried if she stays in Majestic City, Dad and Victor will go after her."
"Michael, I'm concerned for her. You should advise her to leave quickly. If she stays, I'm afraid Dad and Victor will harm her."
Michael finished dressing and turned to face Cordelia. His eyes were cold.
Cordelia looked at him and lowered her head, feeling guilty.
"Michael, are you coming back to the bedroom?"
"It's almost dawn. I'll rest here for a bit. You should go back. It's too cramped here."
Cordelia gently grabbed his sleeve, "Michael, are you mad at me? I'm sorry."
Michael lightly pulled his sleeve from her grasp, "Call your maid to help you back. If your father's people see this, they'll think I'm bullying you."
Cordelia didn't move.
Michael pressed the bell on the table, not looking back, "Cordelia, I like smart women. But I don't like women who think they're clever."
Cordelia's body trembled, tears rolling down her cheeks.
Michael turned and saw this. He frowned slightly, "Did I hurt you?"
At that moment, the maid walked in.
"Ms. Murphy."
Cordelia wiped her tears, "The window in this room wasn't closed properly, the draft made me uncomfortable. Help me back to the bedroom."
The maids came over and helped her away.
Michael turned off the light. He lay in the dark, staring at the ceiling.
Early the next morning, Michael went to a nearby hotel where Elizabeth was staying to have breakfast.
Nolan had come to Majestic City to protect Elizabeth. Since he wasn't staying at the best hotel, Bright Hotel, he might be staying near Elizabeth's hotel.
Michael ate while scanning the surroundings, occasionally looking out the window.
The glass door opened, and a boy wearing a baseball cap walked in.
Michael quickly lowered his head, relieved he wasn't facing the door directly.
He recognized Nolan immediately.
Nolan cautiously glanced at the diners and then sat at the table closest to the door.
Michael quietly exhaled. He was thinking about how to approach Nolan and persuade him to leave.
The glass door was forcefully pushed open again. Victor swaggered in with his bodyguards.
He spotted Michael and walked straight over.
"Michael, having breakfast alone outside? Why not eat at home? Is the food at home not to your taste?"
Michael looked at him, smiling slightly, but the smile didn't reach his eyes.
"Victor, are you my shadow? I just came out, and you followed me?"
From a distance, Nolan heard Victor's name and immediately clenched his fists, glaring at Victor.
So this was the jerk who kidnapped his mom!
Nolan vowed to make Victor pay!
Victor, sitting at the table, suddenly felt a cold gaze on him.
He immediately turned to look.
