Chapter 407 Handle in Hand
"Well, if he knows, he knows. I'm not the same person I was back then. I'm not letting him push me around anymore," Elizabeth said firmly.
Dean hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Elizabeth, I talked to Michael tonight. He said the reason he didn't want kids back then was because he was scared of passing on a genetic disorder, like Eloise."
"He and Eloise are twins. He had the same symptoms as a kid, but his dad got him treated. Eloise wasn't so lucky. He also said his dad was abusive, and he's terrified he might treat his own kids the same way. So, he chose not to have any."
Elizabeth took a moment to process this information, remaining silent.
Dean, noticing the quiet, gently called out, "Elizabeth?"
"Dean, I had my suspicions. No one just decides not to have children for no reason."
"So, Elizabeth, are you going to forgive him?"
"My feelings are secondary. It depends on whether the kids forgive him."
After chatting with Dean for a few moments, Elizabeth hung up the phone.
Meanwhile, Michael returned home and texted Dean: [How did Nolan react to the gift?]
Dean replied simply: [Nolan didn't refuse it. He accepted it.]
Michael smiled as he read the message.
'Great, Nolan accepting my gift might mean he's willing to slowly accept me too.'
He was determined to change and show the kids his sincerity.
Since Eloise's passing, he had been in a deep slump. Now, he felt revitalized.
He had a new goal in life: to be a good father.
In the VIP room of the burn unit at the hospital.
Samuel lay in bed, with Delilah sitting beside him, silently crying.
Samuel looked at her with infinite tenderness.
Delilah's tears flowed even more. "Samuel, when will you get better? Are you in a lot of pain? I wish I could take your pain away. I can't even hug you."
Samuel tried to lift his hand to touch her face but let it fall back down, defeated.
His arms were covered in scars, too horrifying to look at.
Despite his condition, Delilah hadn't abandoned him.
He gave her an apologetic smile.
His bodyguard walked in, glanced at Samuel, then at Delilah.
Samuel looked at Delilah, hoping she would understand.
Delilah immediately got the hint. She stood up, wiped her tears, and said, "I'll go check on Margaret."
She gracefully left the room, gently closing the door behind her.
The bodyguard, seeing her leave, quickly approached Samuel. "Mr. Taylor, we got it."
Samuel's eyes lit up. The bodyguard understood and opened the red box he was holding, inserting the USB drive into a laptop and playing the video.
Then, he placed a piece of paper on Samuel's pillow. "Mr. Taylor, this is the most important part. It's Michael's psychiatric evaluation. With this, you can definitely bring him down."
A smile spread across Samuel's scarred face.
Jennifer had secretly hired someone to get the box from Pearl, but she didn't know Samuel had been watching her every move.
As soon as her person got the box, Samuel's men staged a car accident, killed the person, and swapped the box.
Jennifer, in her frantic escape, had no idea Samuel already had what he needed.
The Christmas special at the TV station was being recorded.
Pearl performed a solo dance.
As she went backstage to change, she was surrounded by reporters as soon as she stepped out the back door.
"Pearl, your dance was amazing tonight! You're still as dazzling as ever!"
Pearl responded sweetly, "Thank you."
Carter stood by her side.
A reporter held out a microphone, "Pearl, your dress tonight is beautiful. It looks like a limited edition from an international brand."
Pearl shook her head. "I don't know. I didn't pay attention to that. My dad gave it to me."
There was a collective gasp. Pearl had previously mentioned on a show that she didn't have a dad.
Another reporter quickly asked, "Pearl, is Carter your dad?"
Pearl immediately waved her hand. "Of course not. Mr. McGinnis is a good friend. My dad recently got in touch with me. He said he wants to be a good father. I'm waiting to see how he does."
At Elizabeth's villa in Valoria.
Sarah had come over to discuss the Christmas menu with Elizabeth.
They were marking items on a grocery list while chatting.
Sarah tentatively asked, "Elizabeth, would you mind if I brought a new friend over for Christmas?"
Elizabeth put down her pen and looked up. "A new friend? Sarah, is this a new boyfriend?"
Sarah's expression turned a bit awkward. "Yes, I met him at school. He's funny, charming, and handsome. He said he likes me and wants to spend Christmas together."
Elizabeth wanted to congratulate her but was worried she hadn't moved on from David.
"Sarah, are you sure you really like him? Not just trying to forget David?"
Sarah's face turned cold. "Can we not talk about David? I've divorced him. I've decided to move on and start fresh. Elizabeth, aren't you my best friend? Shouldn't you be happy for me?"
Elizabeth was taken aback. "Sarah, of course, I want you to be happy. It's just that David..."
Sarah stood up. "Elizabeth, why do you keep bringing up David? I've divorced him! You keep mentioning him! Do you think I'm like you?"
"You kept saying you wanted to divorce Michael, and you did, but you still can't seem to let him go! Are you playing hard to get? Do you think I'm like you? I divorced David to keep him? Let me tell you! I'm not! I'm leaving him for good! I'm not like you!"
With that, Sarah stormed out.
The glass door swung back and forth behind her before finally closing.
Elizabeth watched her leave, stunned.
Sarah had finally snapped at her.
Elizabeth felt a strange sense of relief.
If it weren't for her, Margaret wouldn't have targeted Sarah.
Sarah was kidnapped and lost her ability to have children because of her.
Elizabeth looked down. If it weren't for her, Sarah might have become a mother someday.
But now, she might never have that chance.
Did Sarah really not resent her? Was she really that forgiving?
Elizabeth didn't dare bring up the topic with Sarah. They both carefully avoided it.
But avoiding it didn't solve anything. Even if they never talked about it, the issue still existed.
