Chapter 164 The Moonlight is Beautiful Tonight

Elizabeth rushed out of the living room to greet Louis. "Hey, Louis! You made it."

Louis grinned. "Did I come at a bad time?"

Elizabeth shook her head, smiling back. "Not at all. Mom's cooking up a storm. Dinner will be ready soon."

Louis stepped into the living room.

Nancy greeted him warmly. "Louis, it's been ages!"

Louis set the gift box down and smiled at Nancy. "Nancy, it really has been too long!"

Nancy called over to Elizabeth. "Elizabeth, why don't you show Louis around while I finish up in the kitchen? I've got one more dish to go."

She turned to Louis with a smile. "Louis, you have to try my cooking later and see if I've gotten any worse."

Louis chuckled. "Nancy, I believe your cooking can only improve by leaps and bounds; there's no way it could get worse. I've missed it so much while I was away! That's why I flew back from abroad."

Nancy laughed heartily and headed back to the kitchen.

When the food was ready, Nancy brought it to the table. "Elizabeth, go get Nolan and Pearl for dinner."

"Got it." Elizabeth went upstairs and knocked on Nolan's door. "Nolan, Grandma's done cooking. Come down and eat. And don't forget to wash your hands."

She then went to Pearl's room. "Pearl, dinner's ready. Wash your hands and come down."

Pearl cheerfully called out, "Okay, Mom!"

The three of them headed downstairs together. Nolan and Pearl were very happy to see Louis and kept asking him questions non-stop.

After dinner, they chatted for a bit.

Louis stood up to leave. "Elizabeth, it's getting late. We all have work tomorrow, and the kids have school. I should head out."

Nancy turned to Elizabeth. "Elizabeth, you should walk Louis out. I'll handle the dishes."

Elizabeth and Louis strolled slowly, looking up at the sky.

A bright moon hung above, casting a gentle glow over the cozy yard and the blooming flowers.

Louis spoke softly, as if not wanting to disturb the peace. "Elizabeth, look at the moon tonight. It's beautiful."

Elizabeth looked up too. "Yeah, it is. Even when I was abroad, knowing everyone could see the same moon, I still missed the one back home."

Louis's voice was low. "Luckily, we're both back now. We're home."

Elizabeth smiled. "Yeah, being home feels so comforting and happy."

They quickly reached the front gate. Louis's eyes sparkled as if he wanted to say something, but seeing Elizabeth immersed in the current atmosphere, he held back and bid her farewell.

When Elizabeth returned to the villa, the kids were playing with toys on the sofa.

Nancy was washing dishes in the kitchen.

Elizabeth joined her to help with the dishes.

This time, Nancy didn't stop her. "Elizabeth, I heard Louis say he's back for good this time, right? He doesn't have to go back to Valoria? He said he quit his job there."

Elizabeth nodded. "Yeah, he said he's staying for good. His family's here too."

Nancy smiled. "Elizabeth, you're in your twenties now. Louis is a great guy. He's mature, considerate, has a good personality, and he's good-looking. He really cares about you. Have you ever thought about..."

Elizabeth cut her off. "Mom, I know what you're getting at. Louis is a great person, but there's no spark between us. I see him more like an older brother. I've never thought about being with him that way."

Nancy sighed. "Elizabeth, feelings can grow. When you were in Valoria, you didn't feel that way about him because you were still hung up on Michael. You weren't fully divorced yet, and you were scared of betraying Michael emotionally. But now it's different. You're officially divorced. You're single. You can date, fall in love, get married, and have kids with someone you like. Don't you think Louis is a great choice?"

Elizabeth frowned. "Mom, this isn't about Michael. It has nothing to do with him. I just don't have those kinds of feelings for Louis!"

Nancy got a bit anxious. "Then how do you explain all those people who meet through blind dates and end up happily married? Look at Sarah and David—they met on a blind date and they're so happy now! Love doesn't always happen at first sight. You have to spend time together and let feelings develop. You haven't even given it a chance. Haven't you noticed the way Louis looks at you? It's obvious he has feelings for you!"

Elizabeth didn't want to discuss it any further and playfully blew some bubbles from the cleanser on her hand.

She pointed at the bubbles floating in the air and laughed. "Mom, look!"

Nancy laughed and shook her head. "You're still such a kid. I know you're trying to dodge this topic. But you need to think about your future. I always say, I can't be with you forever. I'll get old, sick, and eventually pass away. Only your partner can be with you for the rest of your life. Even when I'm gone, I don't want to see you living alone. I want you to have your own happiness."

Hearing this, Elizabeth suddenly felt a sharp pain in her heart.

She lowered her head, held her chest with her left hand, and frowned in pain.

Nancy was startled. "Elizabeth! What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

Elizabeth hugged Nancy and started crying, "Please! Don't say that! Mom, you're so good, you'll always be with me, Nolan, and Pearl."

Nancy smiled and patted her shoulder. "Elizabeth, you were fine just a moment ago. What's wrong? Alright, I won't say it anymore. Don't cry."

Elizabeth was still immersed in sadness.

She nodded in Nancy's arms. "Okay. Let me hold you for a while longer. Just a little while."

Nancy smiled and continued to gently pat her back.
