Chapter 308 All Gone Mad
Dean's voice was filled with concern. "Elizabeth, you really need to focus on yourself right now. Silver King grabbed Louis to bait you. As long as you get to Silver King's mansion safely, Louis should be okay. He's just a pawn. What worries me is that once we hit Valoria, you'll be on your own, giving Silver King the upper hand. And now..."
He glanced at Elizabeth's belly, his face tightening with worry. "You're pregnant. How are you gonna save Louis like this?"
Elizabeth's eyes were determined. "No matter what, I have to make sure Louis is safe. I just don't get why Silver King is so hell-bent on finding me."
Dean thought for a moment. "Maybe, I have an idea."
Elizabeth looked at him silently, waiting for him to continue.
Dean said, "A while back, I heard Silver King has this weird condition that gives him killer headaches. Sometimes, he even passes out."
Elizabeth looked puzzled. "That sounds like something he'd keep under wraps. For someone like Silver King, that should be top-secret. He'd get medical help in secret too. If his enemies found out, it could be game over for him."
Dean's face was serious. "Yeah. Elizabeth, I didn't want to keep this from you. I found out back when I was hacking."
Elizabeth's worry was evident. "Dean, that was reckless. What if you left traces and got caught? Did you ever think about the consequences? Weren't you scared?"
Dean gave a bitter smile. "Back then, I had a brain tumor and had lost everyone I cared about. I was ready to check out. There was nothing left to lose, nothing to fear."
He looked at Elizabeth with soft eyes. "But then you came along, Elizabeth. You gave me hope and made me see the beauty in life again."
Elizabeth lowered her head. "You always speak so highly of me... Dean, you deserve better love and a better life. When I saw you struggling, of course, I wanted to help."
Dean said, "Elizabeth, you're always so kind."
Elizabeth looked downcast. "I'm not as good as you think. I feel like I bring bad luck to everyone around me. My mom died. Louis got kidnapped."
Dean said, "Don't sell yourself short. Elizabeth, you brought me luck. From now on, I'll always protect you. Silver King threatening you means his condition hasn't been fixed all these years. The fact that he kidnapped Louis to force you to come shows his condition has probably gotten worse. I bet he needs you to perform brain surgery on him."
Elizabeth frowned. "Louis wouldn't have given up my identity willingly. Otherwise, he wouldn't have had his finger cut off. Dean, who do you think leaked my identity?"
Dean said, "I think you already know."
Elizabeth's eyes flashed with disgust. "It must be Calla."
Dean said, "I never thought that woman could get in touch with Silver King. His status is way above hers."
Elizabeth said, "It's just a guess."
Dean said, "Once this is over, we need to deal with her."
Elizabeth said, "Agreed."
Dean parked the car and grabbed Elizabeth's suitcase, then helped her out of the car.
Inside the restaurant, the front desk clerk approached the manager, Jeremy Wright. "Mr. Wright, there's something you need to know."
"What is it? If it's important, spill it. If not, keep it to yourself."
"Mr. Wright, I think this is worth mentioning. Before you got here, Ms. Jones and her friend were dining here."
"Ms. Jones was here? Did you comp their meal?"
The front desk clerk nodded. "Yes, we did."
Jeremy asked, "So what's the issue?"
"Mr. Wright, Ms. Jones was enjoying her meal, but then she got a phone call, and a courier delivered a package to her. Whatever was in that package must have been terrifying because both she and her friend looked really shaken. Then Ms. Jones got another call. I saw her trembling all over. After the call, they left in a hurry, without even paying. I told them the meal was on the house."
"Trembling all over?"
"Yes, Mr. Wright. I'm sure something serious happened. There might even be some danger."
"You did the right thing. This needs to be reported. Mr. Thomas instructed us to inform him of anything related to Ms. Jones. I'll call him now."
Michael received the call from Jeremy and frowned deeply. He opened his phone's contact list, his finger hovering over the first name. He hesitated for a moment, then decided to contact Daniel first.
Since Elizabeth hadn't reached out to him immediately, it meant she might not want him to know.
When the call connected, Michael's tone was urgent. "Daniel, has Dean contacted you?"
"No, Mr. Thomas. We had dinner together tonight. We agreed to check in once we got home. By now, he should have been back at Whispering Pines Estates, but he hasn't messaged me yet."
"Get in touch with him. Find out where he is and if he's with Elizabeth. Call me back."
"Yes, Mr. Thomas." Daniel hung up and quickly called Dean.
Dean and Elizabeth were at the airport, checking in. Dean answered through his Bluetooth headset. "Daniel, what's up?"
"Dean, where are you? You were supposed to let me know when you got home."
"Sorry, Daniel. Things happened suddenly. Elizabeth and I are at the airport."
Daniel's voice was incredulous. "The airport? Where are you going?"
Dean said, "I'm going with Elizabeth to Valoria."
"Dean!"
"Sorry, Daniel, for not informing you. But I'll be back soon."
"Can you tell me what's going on?"
Dean glanced at Elizabeth.
She could guess his look. "It's okay to tell him."
Dean turned his head, looked around, and whispered, "Louis was kidnapped in Valoria. I'm taking Elizabeth to rescue him."
Daniel was stunned, thinking he must have misheard. "Dean, are you joking? Elizabeth, a pregnant woman, going to rescue Louis? What can she do?"
Dean said, "Daniel, you heard right. We can't explain much now. I have to go. We're checking in."
"Alright. Stay in touch once you land."
"Will do."
After hanging up, Daniel thought, 'Dean's lost it, Elizabeth's lost it, they're both crazy.'
But he immediately called Michael. "Mr. Thomas, Elizabeth is at the airport, and Dean is with her."
