Chapter 142 Who Is Really Hurt?
Nolan shot Michael a dirty look, adjusted his hat, and kept typing away on the keyboard.
Michael got up and walked over. "What are you doing on the computer?"
The moment Nolan saw him coming, he slammed the laptop shut.
He stood up, quickly stuffed the laptop into his backpack, zipped it up, and slung it over his shoulder in one smooth move.
Nolan pulled out the chair next to him and headed for the classroom door.
Seeing he was about to leave, Michael quickly stepped forward and grabbed him. "Nolan, you haven't answered my question. You can't leave!"
The teacher, still in the classroom, immediately stepped in. "Mr. Thomas, Nolan is just a kid. Please don't treat him like this. You'll scare him. School's almost over, and Ms. Jones should be here soon. Can you talk to her directly? Please don't make things hard for Nolan."
Michael shot the teacher a cold look, ignored the advice, and dragged Nolan out of the classroom.
Nolan struggled to break free.
But he was just a 4-year-old kid; how could he possibly match Michael?
Nolan fought hard, kicking Michael's leg. "Let go of me! You jerk! Let go of me! I hate you! I hate both of you!"
Michael looked at him, puzzled.
Why did Nolan, whom he'd never met before, hate him so much?
It must have been Elizabeth who put him up to this.
And Nolan said he hated both of them.
Which two people? Was he talking about him and Eloise?
Michael forcefully dragged Nolan out.
Nolan couldn't break free, so he kicked and bit Michael.
Michael's lips pressed into a thin line as he endured everything Nolan threw at him.
Unable to break free from Michael's grip, Nolan bit down hard on Michael's wrist.
Nolan used all his strength, leaving a crescent-shaped wound on Michael's wrist.
Michael glanced at the bleeding wound but said nothing.
He dragged Nolan to Eloise's room and gently knocked on the door. "Eloise, I'm coming in."
He pushed the door open and walked in. Eloise was already awake, sitting on the couch.
Nolan was dragged into the room by Michael. As soon as he saw Eloise sitting on the couch, he turned his head away angrily and snorted.
Seeing Nolan come in, Eloise stood up from the couch and slowly walked over to him, trying to take his hand.
As soon as he saw Eloise approaching, Nolan turned away in disgust and ignored her.
Eloise was pouting, on the verge of tears again. "Why do you suddenly hate me so much? You weren't like this before."
Michael let go of Nolan.
He took Eloise's hand and gently said, "Eloise, I brought Nolan to you. Clear up any misunderstandings you have with him. Can you tell me how you know him? Are you close? Why did he make you cry? What did he do to you?"
Nolan, who had been forcibly brought to the room, angrily walked to the window, crossed his arms, and looked outside, ignoring them.
He thought, 'These two are totally unreasonable. No wonder Mom divorced Michael. Michael's such a jerk. Just because Eloise cried, it had to be my fault. Look at how gentle and caring he is towards Eloise. If Mom saw this, how sad, hurt, or angry would she be?'
Fifteen minutes later, Elizabeth pulled up to Global Horizons International School in her car.
She quickly ran towards Nolan's classroom.
Two teachers were still waiting for her there.
The teacher who had called her quickly approached when he saw her. "Ms. Jones, don't worry. Mr. Thomas just took Nolan to Eloise's room. It seems there was a small misunderstanding between Nolan and Eloise. Mr. Thomas wanted to clear it up. But no matter what he said, Nolan didn't respond. So he had no choice but to take Nolan over there."
Rushing here in a hurry but not seeing Nolan, Elizabeth was both anxious and angry.
She angrily questioned, "Global Horizons International School charges such high tuition fees, yet the management is so lax? Do you have any sense of security? How can you let a stranger, an adult man, take a 4-year-old child away so easily? Can you guarantee Nolan's safety? Can you ensure that Michael's actions won't harm Nolan in any way? Even if there's no physical harm, won't Michael's actions hurt his young mind?"
A teacher stepped forward to calm Elizabeth down.
He said, "Ms. Jones, please don't worry. I'll take you to Eloise's room to find Nolan. He should still be there, waiting for you to pick him up."
Fuming, Elizabeth followed the teacher to Eloise's room, the door of which stood open.
As soon as Elizabeth appeared at the door, Nolan rushed over and threw himself into her arms.
Elizabeth squatted down, gently hugged Nolan, and held him close.
She whispered in his ear, "Nolan, did they bully you? Are you hurt?"
Hearing Elizabeth ask Nolan this, Michael was instantly furious and put his hands on his hips. "Elizabeth! Is this the good son you adopted? Get it straight! Who's hurt here?"
He extended his injured wrist in front of Elizabeth, pointing to the bite mark. "This is what he did! I didn't do anything to him. Just because Eloise was crying, I brought him over to clear things up between them."
Elizabeth pulled Nolan behind her and stood in front of Michael, saying, "Mr. Thomas, why are you forcing a 4-year-old child? Did you get my permission? Taking Nolan away without consent is illegal; don't you know that? As you said, just because Eloise was crying, it had to be Nolan's fault? Is this how you discern right from wrong? Mr. Thomas, you threaten my children without understanding the situation. He is just a small child; aren't you afraid you'll scare him to tears?"
Elizabeth gave a cold glance at the still-dazed Eloise standing nearby. "You can protect the ones you care about. But please also respect others."
She took Nolan's hand and gently said, "Nolan, let's go home."
