Chapter 274 You Miss Me

Michael shot Daniel a look that screamed, "Man, you really have no fear, huh? I told you not to ask."

Daniel got the hint, gulped, and zipped his lips before heading off to handle the discharge papers.

Left alone, Michael couldn't help but think, 'Elizabeth, what would you say if you came to the hospital? Are you here to cut ties with me for good? So you can go after that singer as a free woman?'

That night, in the master bedroom of the Thomas family villa, Michael was tossing and turning, unable to sleep.

The question that had been bugging him all day still had no answer.

Finally, he decided to stop overthinking. He sat up and shot a message to Elizabeth: [Did you visit my ward when I was hospitalized?]

After sending it, he lay back down.

He thought, 'As soon as Elizabeth replies, I'll turn off the lights and go to sleep.'

But it was late, and his phone stayed silent.

Michael couldn't believe it. He got out of bed, grabbed his phone, and opened the chat with Elizabeth.

Still no reply. The message was just sitting there.

He thought, 'Maybe she's busy with the kids, washing up, putting them to bed. She'll check her phone soon.'

With that thought, he lay back down.

Minutes ticked by.

Michael sat up again, grabbed his phone, and checked the chat.

Still no reply.

He tried to reassure himself, 'She might be taking a bath. Women take forever in the bath. Just wait a bit longer.'

Midnight came and went, and still no reply from Elizabeth.

Michael couldn't sit still. He got out of bed and started pacing.

He made excuses for her, 'Maybe she saw some nasty comments online and feels bad. Maybe she's chatting with Carter, who clarified their relationship on Twitter, and hasn't seen my message yet.'

Michael thought, 'Should I send her another message to remind her?'

But what if she was already asleep? Wouldn't a message wake her up and make it hard for her to fall back asleep?

His mind was racing with a hundred thoughts. Sleep was impossible while waiting for her reply.

Meanwhile, over at Whispering Pines Estates, Elizabeth was sound asleep.

She had worn high heels for an event, which she usually didn't do, and standing on stage for so long had exhausted her.

Plus, she was pregnant, and pregnant women get tired and sleepy easily.

Dean was putting the kids to bed, and Elizabeth had gone to her room to rest early.

At five in the morning, Elizabeth woke up thirsty. She hadn't drunk much water last night and was feeling parched. She got out of bed, put on a robe, and went to the living room to get some water.

Still groggy, she checked her phone and saw it was only five a.m.

Then she noticed an unread message from Michael: [Did you visit my ward when I was hospitalized?]

Elizabeth's eyes widened.

She thought, 'This must've been sent before he went to sleep. I'll reply when it's light out and I've had enough rest.'

But she was worried she might forget to reply because she had so much going on, so she quickly typed out a message: [Sorry, when was this? I seem to have forgotten.]

Michael, who had been anxiously waiting for her reply, finally heard the notification sound on his phone.

He quickly opened the chat with Elizabeth. After reading her reply, his heart, which had been full of anticipation, sank with disappointment.

What? He had waited all night for this?

It had only been a few days. How could she forget so quickly?

Was her mind now filled with thoughts of that singer?

After all, that guy was younger, more cheerful, and more popular than him.

But Michael wasn't ready to let it go and replied: [You're not that old, how can your memory be so bad? It's only been a few days, and you've already forgotten?]

Elizabeth looked at Michael's quick reply and widened her eyes in surprise.

How did he reply so quickly? Did she wake him up? Or had he not slept all night?

The thought of this possibility made Elizabeth's heart race.

Could it be possible? Did he stay up all night just to wait for her reply?

Yet she thought, 'Don't be silly.'

She then obediently replied: [I remember now. I happened to be at the hospital for a check-up that day. I was going to the surgical building, so it was on the way.]

Seeing this message, Michael frowned. Elizabeth really couldn't say a single nice word to him.

Michael: [On the way? What kind of thing could be on the way to the VIP surgical ward? Did you hit your head?]

Elizabeth was now fully awake, and her sleepiness was gone. She saw Michael's message and pouted in anger.

She angrily replied: [Can't you just wish me well? Why do I have to be injured to go to the hospital?]

Michael: [If you're not injured or sick, then why were you at the hospital? Could it be that you're pregnant?]

Elizabeth's heart skipped a beat when she saw his message.

Could he have guessed?

Another message from him came: [If it's none of those things, then there's only one possibility.]

Elizabeth stared at her phone, waiting for his next message.

What would he say? What was the possibility?

Michael: [Unless you missed me and just wanted to see me.]

Elizabeth blushed when she saw his message, even though she was in her own room with no one around. It felt like he was standing right in front of her, seeing through all her pretenses.

She hurriedly replied: [You replied so quickly. Did you stay up all night? It's almost dawn. You should get some rest!]

After sending the message, Elizabeth tossed her phone aside and quickly went to drink water.

She didn't dare look at Michael's reply anymore, fearing he might say something else that would shock her.

In the Thomas family villa, early in the morning, Clio prepared breakfast for Eloise and quietly left the main building.

Eloise had been awake for a while.

She noticed that Clio had been acting strange these past few days, often distracted. When Eloise talked to her, Clio would often ask, "Ms. Thomas, what did you just say?"

Eloise wondered if something had happened to her.

Thinking of this, Eloise got dressed and looked out the window from the second floor.

Clio was carrying a bulging bag and looked around suspiciously. She walked along the wall towards the villa's back door.

Usually, the back door of the villa was not open. Only the kitchen staff delivering food and the gardeners bringing plants would use the back door.

Eloise felt a pang of curiosity, thinking, 'Clio looks sneaky, what is she doing at the back door?'
