Chapter 590 Heartless
The Murphy family's bodyguard immediately reported to Cordelia that Michael had woken up.
Upon hearing the news, Cordelia rushed to the hospital.
Michael had been moved from the ICU to a regular ward.
Cordelia, accompanied by servants and bodyguards, entered the hospital room.
She sat by the bedside, smiling warmly. "Michael, it's so good to see you awake."
Cordelia took the food box handed to her by a servant and opened it. "I talked to the doctor before coming. He said you could have some liquid food. I've had the chef make soup for you every day. This way, whenever you wake up, you can have some soup."
She picked up a spoon, scooped some soup, gently blew on it, and brought it to Michael's lips. "Here, Michael, have some soup."
Michael turned his face slightly, avoiding the spoon.
Cordelia's hand remained extended, unsure how to react under the watchful eyes of everyone.
A servant gently took her hand back and placed the spoon in the bowl. "Ms. Murphy, Mr. Thomas just woke up. His stomach might not be ready yet. Let's give him some time. No rush."
Michael looked at Elizabeth. "Elizabeth, you feed me."
Elizabeth pointed to herself. "Me? You said you didn't want any soup."
"If you feed me, I'll drink it."
Elizabeth was about to say something but then smiled and took the bowl from the servant. "Alright, I'll feed you."
She glanced at Cordelia. "Excuse me, Ms. Murphy, could you step aside?"
Cordelia's chest heaved noticeably, but she reluctantly moved aside.
"Elizabeth! Don't get too full of yourself!"
Elizabeth smiled and brought the spoon to Michael's lips. "Here, have a sip. Isn't it delicious? The chef from Ms. Murphy's house made it especially for you! You should thank her!"
Michael glanced at her and surprisingly nodded slightly towards Cordelia. "Thank you."
Cordelia stood by, holding onto the servant's hand, her brows furrowed. "Michael, you're my husband and part of the Murphy family. The chef making soup for you is his duty. You don't need to be so polite."
Michael looked at her, his eyes devoid of warmth. "I'm not part of the Murphy family. I'm Elizabeth's husband."
Cordelia's body swayed. Her voice trembled uncontrollably. "Michael, what are you saying? We're legally married!"
"I was suffering from amnesia then and forgot my real wife, which is why I agreed to marry you. Once you give birth, I'll divorce you. Don't worry, I won't fight for custody."
Cordelia finally couldn't stand it and collapsed into the servant's arms, shouting, "Michael! The baby in my belly is yours! It's yours!"
Michael stared at her. "I've said it before, no matter what means you used to get this baby, he has nothing to do with me. He's only your child. Once I'm discharged, I'll leave here with Elizabeth."
Cordelia clutched her chest, looking at him in disbelief. "Michael, are you really this heartless towards me?"
Michael turned his head and held Elizabeth's hand. "I'm sorry, Ms. Murphy. I know you had high hopes for our marriage, but I can't fulfill your expectations. I don't love you or the baby you're carrying. You can leave now. Elizabeth can take care of me."
Cordelia wanted to say more, but a hand suddenly reached out and pulled her out of the room.
Cordelia was dragged out of the room by that hand.
She steadied herself, looked at the man in front of her, and shook off his hand, frowning in displeasure. "Zander? What are you doing here? Checking if Michael's dead?"
Zander suppressed his anger and grabbed her wrist again, pressing her against the wall. "Cordelia! I don't care about Michael's life or death! I only care about you! I heard he woke up, so I knew you'd come! But with Elizabeth here, I'm afraid you'll be at a disadvantage! I'm afraid you'll get hurt!"
Cordelia impatiently shook him off. "It's none of your business! Let go!"
Zander forcefully wrapped his arm around her waist. "Cordelia, Michael has regained his memory. In his eyes, you stand no chance against Elizabeth."
Cordelia snapped, "I told you! It's none of your business!"
The servants and bodyguards had already followed them out.
Zander signaled to the servant.
The servant immediately stepped forward. "Ms. Murphy, Mr. Thomas has Elizabeth with him here. Let me accompany you home. Staying here will only make you angry, which isn't good for the baby."
Cordelia didn't want to leave. "Michael doesn't believe the baby in my belly is his! I need to do a paternity test as soon as possible to prove to him that the baby is his!"
The servant gently supported her. "Ms. Murphy, even if you need to do a paternity test, it doesn't have to be done in the next few days. Michael and Elizabeth are so arrogant because Mr. Murphy is no longer here, and they see you have no one to rely on."
She glanced at Zander and said to Cordelia, "Right now, you can only rely on Zander."
Cordelia looked at Zander, snorted, and left the hospital room in large strides.
Inside the room.
Elizabeth fed Michael soup while chatting with him.
"Michael, why did Zander attack you so viciously? Was Cordelia there at the time?"
"I was careless then, just wanted to leave quickly after Gerald died, didn't expect him to act in the hospital."
Elizabeth nodded. "The security in Majestic City is indeed not great. We should leave as soon as possible."
"Zander shot me twice. He feels guilty now and won't trouble us anymore. If I want to leave, he won't stop us."
"So, you deliberately let him shoot you?"
"Sort of. At that time, I could have avoided one of the shots."
Elizabeth's eyes reddened. She put down the spoon and gently held Michael's hand. "Michael, promise me, for the sake of me and the kids, don't risk your life anymore, okay?"
Michael held her hand firmly and answered solemnly, "Okay. Once we return to Aurora Bay, I'll stay home and take care of the kids."
Elizabeth chuckled softly. "I didn't mean you should stay home all the time. Just don't get involved in dangerous things anymore."
Michael looked at her. "Alright."
Elizabeth felt a bit embarrassed under his gaze. "Are you bored just lying here? Do you want to go out and take a look?"
Michael's eyes lit up. "Can I go out?"
Elizabeth nodded. "I had the bodyguards prepare a wheelchair for you. Once you're fully awake and your condition allows, you can go out for a stroll. But only in this corridor, and not for too long each time."
Michael's expression instantly fell.
Rufus knocked on the door.
Elizabeth signaled him to come in.
"What's up?"
"Ms. Jones, there are three people outside requesting to see Mr. Thomas."
