Chapter 431 Wish Fulfilled
Sarah's tear-filled eyes were hazy. "I have a feeling, but I'm scared to believe it's true."
"Sarah, you had a boyfriend before and told David about it. Do you think he might be throwing this wedding to get back at you?"
Sarah shook her head, crying. "Elizabeth, don't give me hope. If things aren't the way I imagine, I'll fall apart."
Elizabeth hugged her, pulling her close. "Sarah, I'll go with you. We'll face David together. You can ask him directly if he really plans to marry someone else. If he confirms it, we'll leave and never bother him again."
"But if he hesitates and still has feelings for you, then follow your heart. Tell me, do you still love him? Do you want to be with him again?"
Sarah's eyes were resolute. "I still love him. I want to be with him again."
Elizabeth stood up. "Alright, Sarah, go to the bathroom, wash your face, and take a break. I'll get some clothes ready for you."
Sarah obediently went to the bathroom.
Elizabeth stepped aside and called her assistant. Then she went to the fridge, got some ice, wrapped it in a towel, and helped Sarah with her puffy eyes.
Soon, the assistant arrived with a large paper bag and a full set of makeup.
Elizabeth handed them to Sarah. "Sarah, put on some beautiful makeup and wear this dress. I'll go with you."
Sarah got dressed and came out.
Elizabeth took one look and was satisfied. The outfit her assistant had chosen was just right.
She had chosen a short dress that resembled a wedding gown. If the plan to stop the wedding failed, Sarah could still leave without feeling too embarrassed.
Elizabeth braided Sarah's hair into a fishtail braid and took a lily from a vase by the door, placing it in her hair.
"Alright, Sarah, the wedding should be starting soon. Let's go."
Sarah received her encouraging look and nodded. "Okay."
Elizabeth held her trembling hand. "Sarah, don't be afraid. I'll be with you the whole time."
They walked hand in hand down the stairs to the wedding venue. The music had already started.
David was standing on the stage, waiting for his bride to walk down the aisle.
Elizabeth glanced at the other end of the stage. The bride was adjusting her wedding dress.
Elizabeth nodded at Sarah.
Sarah stepped onto the stage and walked towards David.
David's eyes widened as he saw her approaching. "Sarah, what are you doing here?"
Sarah took the microphone. "David, I came to ask you one question. Do you want to be with me again? If you agree, we'll leave together right now. If you don't, I'll leave immediately, and your wedding can continue. I promise never to bother you again."
The crowd murmured.
Sarah's hand holding the microphone trembled slightly.
Elizabeth watched her from a short distance away.
David stepped forward. "Sarah, are you sure? Are you sure you won't leave me again? Last time, you insisted on leaving, no matter how much I begged. You know how much that hurt me. I couldn't eat or sleep, constantly thinking about you, wondering why you were so heartless."
Sarah shook her head, tears streaming down. "I won't. I swear, if you agree to be with me, I'll love you with all my heart. Unless you push me away, I'll never leave you again."
David took her hand. "Alright, I agree to be with you."
Sarah was stunned. "You agree just like that? What about your bride?"
She turned to look at the bride behind her.
The bride finally finished adjusting her dress. "David, your wish has come true. Can I step down now?"
David smiled and thanked her. "Yes, thank you so much for helping today. I owe you big time."
The "bride" smiled and left.
Sarah turned back to David, eyes wide. "David, care to explain?"
David scratched his head and laughed. "Sarah, you know I've always loved you. How could I really marry someone else? I just wanted to provoke you, to make you see your true feelings. Looks like it worked. You came. You're brave."
He gently hugged her. "Thank you, Sarah. Thank you for not giving up on me. I won't give up on you either."
Sarah pulled away from his embrace. "David, what if I hadn't come today? Would you have really married her?"
David shook his head. "Of course not!"
"But what about the bride? And all the guests? How could you do that to her?"
David covered his mouth and whispered in her ear. "The guests are all hired. The bride is an old friend. She likes women. She would never marry a man."
He looked at Sarah, tears in his eyes. "Sarah, how could I ever leave you? I'm not as heartless as you."
Sarah hugged him back, burying her head in his chest. "I'm sorry, David. I'll love you more from now on."
In the audience, Elizabeth watched Sarah finally get what she wanted and sighed in relief.
Her phone chimed. It was a message from Michael.
[Elizabeth, they gave each other a chance. Will you give me one?]
Elizabeth saw the message and knew Michael was there too. She texted Sarah: [Sarah, congratulations. I'm leaving now. Wishing you happiness!]She put away her phone and quietly left the lawn.
In the guest seats, Michael's eyes never left Elizabeth. He watched her leave.
This woman, seeing his message and not replying, trying to sneak away? Clearly, she didn't want to give him a chance!
Michael stood up and strode in the direction she left.
Elizabeth, in high heels, couldn't walk fast. Michael quickly caught up to her.
He called out from behind, "Elizabeth!"
She had to stop. "What is it?"
Michael caught up, about to grab her wrist, but hesitated for a moment and then lowered his hand.
"Elizabeth, where are you rushing off to? Aren't you waiting for Sarah?"
"She's definitely going back with David. And I already told her I was leaving."
"Is it because of me? Because I'm here, so you're leaving?"
Elizabeth turned her head. "Don't flatter yourself. I just feel like there's nothing left for me to do here. Francis is waiting for me at home."
"Elizabeth, I haven't seen Francis in a long time. Can I see him?"
