Chapter 544 Tumor

Dean nodded repeatedly, looking defeated. "Man, if this keeps up, I won't even be able to face Elizabeth."

Daniel lifted his chin. "I've never seen you this down! Is this how you were after your breakup?"

Dean shot him a glare. "Don't bring that up."

Daniel pulled him into a hug. "Your boss is gone, and you're swamped. My boss is gone too, but at least I'm not drowning in work. I feel like a headless chicken, not knowing where to go. The boss disappeared. Stellar Enterprises is leaderless, and Mr. Anderson is holding it together. Who knows when your boss and mine will be back."

Dean lay down on his lap. "I can't even look Pearl in the eye now. I'm afraid she'll ask me again when Elizabeth is coming back."

"Carter said he was taking her to record a show, right?"

"Yeah, but I haven't asked Elizabeth about it yet!"

Daniel urged him. "Then ask her already! If Pearl is busy with the show, she won't overthink things. She'll be in a better mood with Carter."

Dean sat up. "Alright, I'll message her."

In Majestic City.

Rufus left the hospital, deep in thought.

Elizabeth was a good employer. Even though he often teased her, she never got mad.

She treated him differently from his previous employers, who were always bossy. She even worried about his safety.

Rufus genuinely hoped Elizabeth would live a long life. He wanted to keep being her bodyguard, protecting her.

But Glenn said she had a tumor in her brain that needed surgery soon. The longer they waited, the riskier it would be.

Rufus didn't know how to break the news to Elizabeth.

Michael's situation was already giving her enough headaches. She had three kids to raise, and Francis was still so young. They all needed their mom.

Rufus sat on the hotel lobby sofa, silently lamenting.

He was lost in thought when Elizabeth suddenly called him.

Rufus quickly answered. "Ms. Jones! You're awake? Are you feeling okay? Hungry? Do you need me to bring you something to eat?"

Elizabeth was puzzled by his attitude. "What's gotten into you?"

"No, Ms. Jones, I just suddenly wanted to check on you. So you wouldn't say I don't act like your employee."

"Well, here's your chance to prove yourself. Take me to the hospital. I'm really not feeling well."

Rufus's heart sank. "Ms. Jones, is it a headache?"

Elizabeth paused for a second. "No, my stomach feels off."

She had felt a slight discomfort in her lower abdomen that morning. Checking her period tracking app, she realized her period was overdue.

Elizabeth suspected she might be pregnant. She needed to go to the hospital to confirm.

Before returning to the hotel, Rufus had rented an SUV. He hadn't had a chance to tell Elizabeth yet.

They didn't know how long they'd be in Majestic City. Elizabeth often needed to go out, and sometimes taxis weren't convenient or safe.

Having a car ready made things easier.

Rufus had considered buying Elizabeth a car to use in Majestic City, but he didn't have much money and worried she wouldn't like his choice.

Renting a car was simpler. They could return it once they were back in Aurora Bay.

Elizabeth came downstairs, and Rufus drove her to the hospital to see Glenn.

"Rufus, when did you become so considerate? Thinking ahead for me."

Rufus was too preoccupied to respond.

Elizabeth found his unusual quietness odd, not like her typically chatty bodyguard.

At the hospital, Glenn was already waiting.

"Elizabeth, you're here."

Elizabeth was surprised. "Glenn, you've been waiting for me? Aren't you busy?"

"Your bodyguard called ahead. Let's get you checked out."

Glenn was Elizabeth's classmate from grad school in Valoria and knew how hard she had worked back then.

Glenn had already prepared the necessary forms. They went straight to the ultrasound room to wait.

Elizabeth sat in the waiting room, feeling sleepy.

Glenn caught her as she swayed. "Elizabeth!"

Elizabeth looked at him groggily. "Glenn, why do I always feel so tired? I've been sleeping a lot, but I'm still drowsy."

Glenn debated whether to tell her the results.

Elizabeth suddenly remembered. "Glenn, what about my brain scan from last time? The report should be out, right?"

She pointed at him playfully. "Did you forget? It's okay! I know you're busy. I forgive you!"

Glenn frowned, looking down, not answering.

Elizabeth's smile faded. She asked cautiously, "Glenn, is there something wrong with my results?"

She said seriously, "Glenn, I'm a doctor too. Don't hide anything from me. Just tell me."

Glenn stood up. "It's your turn for the ultrasound. Afterward, I'll take you to my office for the report."

He patted her shoulder. "It's not a big problem. We can handle it."

Elizabeth smiled slightly. "Okay. I'll go in now."

Glenn nodded, waiting outside the exam room.

Soon, Elizabeth came out.

Yawning, she said, "Glenn, I'm still so tired. I'll go back and nap."

Glenn nodded. "Alright. I'll get your report."

The bodyguard took Elizabeth back to the hotel.

Glenn held her ultrasound report, feeling conflicted.

Elizabeth's brain tumor was pressing on her nerves and needed surgery soon. But now she was pregnant.

If he told Elizabeth she was expecting, he knew what she'd choose.

She loved children and would choose to have the baby, delaying the tumor surgery and treatment.

Moreover, if the tumor kept growing, she might not live to see the baby's birth.

Glenn made up his mind and called her immediately.

Elizabeth was dozing in the car when the phone rang. She answered.

"Glenn? The results are out? That was fast!"

"Elizabeth, I'm calling about your brain scan results."

Elizabeth sensed something unusual in his tone.

"Do I have a tumor in my brain?"

Glenn was surprised she guessed. "Yes. You need surgery soon."

Elizabeth was wide awake now. "Is it pressing on my nerves?"

"Elizabeth, you should have noticed. Have you had any vision loss recently?"

Elizabeth lowered her head, speaking softly. "Yes. I thought it was just stress and lack of rest."

Glenn said seriously, "While you're still clear-headed, let's discuss a surgery plan."

Elizabeth shook her head. "I don't want surgery right now. I have too much to do. My son is here. I need to take him back."
