Chapter 385 Rupture

Michael's voice was hoarse. "Elizabeth, please, just get some rest tonight. We can talk about this tomorrow."

Elizabeth jumped up from her seat. "Why wait until tomorrow? Who was it that swore to avenge Sarah and Francis? When Calla went blind, you came at me like I was your enemy! And now?"

"Now that we know it was Margaret, where's that fire you had? Or do you only get tough with me? Margaret has done so much to hurt me and my friends, and you want to let her go? Well, I won't! I will get my revenge on her!"

Michael sat up, leaning against the couch. He stared into the darkness in Elizabeth's direction.

"Elizabeth, I never said we wouldn't get revenge. We just need to wait. I have some things to take care of first. Don't push me. Please?"

Elizabeth let out a cold laugh. "Push you? Francis was your idea. You insisted I have him. He's your son! Margaret did this to him, and you can still sleep at night?"

"What, are you reminiscing about the good times with her? Can't bring yourself to hurt her? Michael, you make me sick!"

She continued, her voice rising. "Why did she go after Calla? Why did she come after me? Because of you! Because of her twisted, obsessive love for you! That's why she targeted me!"

"And Sarah! If it weren't for you, none of this would have happened to us! This is all your fault! And now, you can't even bring yourself to get revenge! This is how you protect us?"

Michael stayed silent, lost in thought in the darkness.

Elizabeth stood up and turned on the light, pointing to the door, her face icy. "Get out! You're not welcome here!"

Michael stood and gently pushed her hand down. "Elizabeth, I promised I would help raise our children together, and I meant it."

Elizabeth ignored him. "Leave now. I don't need a man who goes back on his word. You've hurt me countless times, and I've forgiven you just as many."

"But this time, I won't. I can raise three kids on my own. There's no love between us anymore. I don't need you. Get out."

Michael looked at her, his voice low. "Elizabeth..."

Elizabeth wouldn't look at him.

Michael's heart ached as if pricked by needles.

His mind was a mess. Maybe, under these circumstances, they really shouldn't be living under the same roof.

He grabbed his coat and silently left.

Behind him, Elizabeth's tears fell silently.

The next morning, Elizabeth arrived outside the neonatal intensive care unit.

She couldn't stay at home, nor could she focus on work. Even if she couldn't save Francis, just being there with him gave her some peace.

In the incubator lay her son. His tiny body was enduring so much pain, and as his mother, she felt utterly helpless.

Elizabeth felt a deep sense of powerlessness.

When her father was in the hospital, they missed the best treatment window because they couldn't afford it, and he passed away.

Now, she was wealthy beyond measure, but what good was it? She still couldn't save her son. There are things in this world that money can't buy.

She hadn't slept all night, worried about Francis, and now she felt faint and fell backward.

Michael appeared out of nowhere and caught her. "Elizabeth! Are you okay?"

Elizabeth steadied herself, pushing away from him. "I don't need your help."

"Elizabeth, Michael." A sweet female voice called out.

Michael and Elizabeth turned to see Louis and Eloise walking in.

Elizabeth stood up, her face pale, dark circles under her eyes. "Louis, Eloise, what are you doing here?"

Eloise looked at her with concern. "Elizabeth, you don't look well. Did you not sleep last night? How's the baby?"

At the mention of Francis, Elizabeth's eyes welled up with tears, but she held them back.

Michael was still there; she didn't want him to see her cry.

"Francis is still in the NICU, under the blue light."

Eloise didn't understand why Francis needed the blue light. She turned to the doctor. "Why does Francis need the blue light? Will it hurt him?"

The doctor patiently explained. "Because his jaundice is severe. We can't find a matching blood type for an exchange transfusion, so we have to use phototherapy for now."

Eloise thought for a moment. "Jaundice can be treated with a blood transfusion? Why can't you do that for Francis?"

The doctor explained again. "Ms. Thomas, Francis has a rare blood type. His Rh factor is negative, so we need to find someone with Rh-negative blood."

Eloise's eyes widened. "I have Rh-negative blood. Can you use mine for Francis?"

"Eloise!"

All three of them spoke at once.

Michael pulled her aside. "Eloise, your health isn't great. You need to focus on getting better. Don't worry about anything else. Understand?"

Elizabeth was moved by Eloise's offer. Even if she wouldn't use Eloise's blood for Francis, the fact that Eloise offered meant the world to her.

Eloise had no relation to Francis, yet she was willing to risk her health for him.

Elizabeth felt deeply grateful to Eloise. She realized her previous judgments about Eloise were unfair.

Elizabeth thought, 'I've been too narrow-minded. Eloise's heart has always been pure and kind.'

She took Eloise's hand and said sincerely, "Eloise, thank you so much, but no. Your health isn't suitable for donating blood. I can't selfishly ask you to sacrifice for my child. I appreciate your kindness."

She turned to Louis. "Louis, take Eloise home."

The doctor had said they needed at least a pint of fresh blood for the transfusion.

Michael had already posted a paid blood donation ad online, but no one had responded.

Jennifer and Margaret had both seen the ad.

At FutureTech Robotics Group, in the CEO's office, Jennifer was on the phone with Margaret.

"Margaret, I never thought you'd be more ruthless than Calla. Elizabeth's son doesn't have long to live."

"And he's Michael's son too. My poor daughter was driven to her death by those two. She must have been so scared and in so much pain when she jumped from that building!"

"Now, their child is suffering, and it's their turn to face the consequences. Margaret, I have to thank you!"
