Chapter 108 Is She Weak and Pitiful?
The waiter came over and dropped off the coffee they ordered.
Daniel leaned in, "Ms. Jones, I heard you're looking to divorce Mr. Thomas. Now that you're back, why not meet him in person? Wouldn't it be easier to hash things out face-to-face? If you talk, I'm sure he'll sign the papers without a fuss."
Elizabeth stirred her coffee slowly. "That's my business."
Daniel's face tightened. "I'm here for Mr. Thomas. I'm handling the sale of the Jones Group building. Could you be a bit more polite?"
Elizabeth scoffed, "Polite to someone close to Michael? Sorry, not happening. If you're on his side, you must agree with his actions. So why should I be nice?"
Daniel took a big gulp of coffee, immediately found it so hot as to burn his tongue and grimaced in pain. He waved his hand in front of his face, trying to cool down.
Elizabeth turned away, ignoring his discomfort.
Daniel pressed on, "Ms. Jones, let me give you some advice. Whether it's the divorce or the building, you should meet Mr. Thomas directly. It'll be more efficient."
He gave her a pointed look. "Or are you feeling too guilty to face him?"
Elizabeth shot him a cold stare. "I just don't want to see him. You think I'm scared? That I wronged him? If I wronged anyone, it sure wasn't him! This conversation is over. Since talking to you is so unpleasant, let's do this another day."
She stood up, grabbed her bag, and walked out without looking back.
Daniel sat there, watching her leave, deep in thought.
Elizabeth's presence was so strong now. It made him a bit uneasy.
He pondered her words.
Could it be that all these years, he, Matthew, and David had misunderstood Elizabeth?
Maybe she didn't wrong Michael. Maybe it was the other way around.
It seemed possible. Someone as vengeful as Michael wouldn't let Elizabeth go without payback.
The conversation ended on a sour note.
Daniel headed back to Stellar Enterprises. He walked into the CEO's office. "Mr. Thomas, I'm back. I think you know who wants to buy the Jones Group building."
Michael looked up, his voice steady. "Is it Elizabeth?"
Daniel plopped down on his desk. "Yep, Mr. Thomas! I was shocked when I saw her. After four years abroad, she's made enough to buy a building outright."
As they talked, Matthew walked in with a stack of documents and handed them to Daniel. "Elizabeth took Robert's Super Brain system abroad. Over the years, she teamed up with others to start Innovatech Solutions. They perfected the Super Brain system, mass-produced it, and made a ton of money. Now, buying the Jones Group building is a breeze for her."
Daniel looked down and said, "Even though she seemed weak and pitiful back then, I always knew she wasn't just anyone. I just didn't expect her to rise so quickly."
Matthew chuckled, "Weak? Pitiful? Did you forget how she used to push Michael around? How long did it take him to bounce back? Did you forget all that?"
Daniel thought about what Elizabeth had said at the café and glanced at Michael. "Mr. Thomas, are you still set on selling the building?"
Matthew jumped in, "Of course he is. Michael bought that building for Elizabeth. Who would've thought she'd be so heartless and leave? She totally crushed Michael's feelings."
Michael cleared his throat, "Alright. Daniel, get in touch with Elizabeth and ask her to meet me in person. I'll handle it."
Daniel nodded, "Okay, Mr. Thomas."
As he was about to leave, he turned back to Michael. "Mr. Thomas, are you going to go easy on her?" He still wanted to confirm Michael's true intentions.
Michael shot him a cold look. "Get back to work."
"Got it." Daniel quickly shut the office door behind him.
It was evening. Anthony was having dinner at a high-end restaurant and chatting with Seraphina York, a stunning woman in her thirties.
Seraphina asked, "Mr. Thomas, is Michael, the CEO of Stellar Enterprises, really your uncle?"
Anthony smiled warmly. "Ms. York, you must be joking. Of course, Michael is my uncle. We have dinner every week. He often gives me advice on how to conduct myself. Even though I'm not young, he still sees me as a kid."
Seraphina laughed, "Being seen as a kid in your twenties means you're very fortunate, Mr. Thomas."
Anthony laughed along with her.
Seraphina continued, "Mr. Thomas..."
Before she could finish, Anthony interrupted her. "Ms. York, from the moment I saw you, I felt a sense of familiarity, like we've known each other forever. Please, call me Anthony. 'Mr. Thomas' feels too formal."
Seraphina nodded, "Okay, Anthony. You can call me Seraphina."
Anthony replied, "Alright, Seraphina."
Hearing this, Seraphina blushed and looked down.
Anthony gazed at her with deep affection.
In a nearby booth, two small voices were whispering.
"Damn! He must've used that look to trick Mom back then, right?" one voice said.
"Too despicable! Jerk! I don't want a bad man as my dad," the other replied.
"Alright, it's your turn," the first said.
"Leave it to me," the other said.
Anthony had already gently taken Seraphina's hand. "Seraphina, I'm very serious about relationships. Since you agreed to meet me, you must know a bit about me. I've only been in two relationships. The first was in college; we liked each other and just studied together. After graduation, we broke up. Then I had another girlfriend, but she passed away shortly after we started dating. Since then, I've been single until I met you. Seraphina, when I first saw you, it felt like I was seeing my future partner. In my mind, the person who would be with me for the rest of my life looks just like you. You are a gift from God. Right, Seraphina?"
Hearing his words, Seraphina was moved.
