Chapter 124 She Felt a Bit Uneasy

The surgery took quite a while, but it went off without a hitch.

When Eloise woke up, she was supposed to be a lot smarter. Plus, her immune system would be back to normal, so she wouldn't get sick as easily.

Elizabeth thought, 'This could be a nice peace offering for Michael. Maybe it'll make up for Nolan taking Eloise without asking.'

Elizabeth peeled off her gloves and surgical gown, hit the door switch, and stepped out of the operating room.

After washing up, she changed back into her clothes, gave the nurse some instructions, ditched her mask, and headed out.

She punched in the code at the elevator and got into the one reserved for the hospital's big shots.

Alone in the elevator, she leaned against the wall, exhausted. She pulled out her phone, scrolled through her contacts, and made a call.

She'd been on her feet for hours, totally focused on Eloise's surgery.

While she was operating, she didn't feel tired at all. But now that it was over, she felt completely wiped out. Even lifting the phone to her ear was a chore.

The call connected. A gentle voice came through, "Elizabeth."

Too tired for small talk, she said, "The surgery's done. I'll leave the rest to you."

The person on the other end picked up on her fatigue and quickly said, "Alright, you go rest. I'll handle everything else."

She hung up and closed her eyes.

The elevator dinged, and she stepped out on the first floor.

As she walked through the hall, she suddenly felt someone hugging her legs.

Looking down, she saw Nolan and Pearl. She was surprised, but at the same time, she felt a surge of energy, as if her fatigue had instantly disappeared.

She squatted down and asked, "No school today? Why are you here so early?"

Pearl's eyes welled up with tears. "I haven't seen you in so long, Mommy. I missed you. Nolan and I told Grandma, and she said we don't have to go to school today."

Elizabeth hugged Pearl and kissed her forehead gently as a comfort.

Nolan stood nearby, his head lowered, looking like he had something on his mind.

Elizabeth touched his head and asked, "Nolan, what's up? You look worried."

Nolan looked up at her. "Mom, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have taken Eloise out of school without asking. I made you worry and caused a lot of trouble."

Elizabeth smiled and patted his head. "You're a good kid and always ready to help. I get it. I'm not mad at you."

The two hugged her again, and Elizabeth, too tired to resist, ended up sitting on the ground. They quickly helped her up.

Elizabeth stood up with a smile, holding Nolan's hand in one and Pearl's in the other.

The three of them walked out of the hospital, happy and together.

Elizabeth was too exhausted to wonder how they had found her.

Nolan walked next to Elizabeth, holding her hand. Actually, he was a bit nervous, worried she'd ask how he found her. He hadn't come up with an answer yet. Luckily, she didn't ask.

That evening, Calla got a mysterious phone call.

After hanging up the phone, she found a way to shake off the bodyguards who were following her and grabbed a taxi to Harmony Health Hospital.

Following the caller's instructions, she went into a special operating room. There, she saw Eloise lying on the table, still out cold.

The surgical record on the table showed Eloise had surgery, but the chief surgeon's name was blank.

Calla asked the nurse who had done the surgery.

The nurse had no clue.

Kara carefully reviewed the post-surgery metrics recorded for Eloise and then wrote her own name in the lead surgeon's position. She also arranged for the post-operative equipment checks related to Eloise. The scan results showed that the surgery was very successful—virtually flawless.

She exclaimed inwardly, 'If I had done it, I couldn't have been this precise. But why didn't this person leave their name? Michael's missing person notice for Eloise is everywhere. A $500 million reward would tempt anyone. Maybe the surgeon was just curious or interested in Eloise's case. But why not go to Michael for the reward after doing such a great job?'

Calla shook her head and stopped overthinking it. If someone wanted to give her the credit, why not take it? She didn't ask for it. Clearly, they didn't want it.

Calla pushed Eloise back to the ward. She sat down, took out her phone, took a deep breath to calm herself, and called Michael.

"Mr. Thomas, please come to Harmony Health Hospital now," Calla said.

Michael asked casually, "What's up?"

"Eloise is here. I just finished her surgery. Thought you'd want to know," Calla replied.

Upon hearing news about Eloise, including that she had undergone surgery, Michael could no longer wait. He hurriedly hung up the phone and immediately instructed the driver to rush to the hospital. He ran straight to Eloise's room.

He hadn't seen Eloise for several days and had no information about her. He was very anxious and looked quite haggard.

Every time he closed his eyes, he saw images of Eloise being captured and hurt.

If he didn't see Eloise or hear any news soon, he felt like he'd go crazy.

So when he got Calla's call and heard about Eloise, he dropped everything and rushed to the ward.

As soon as he pushed the door open, he saw Eloise lying quietly on the bed.

She was wearing a headcap and looked a bit worn out. But that didn't matter. What mattered was she was okay.

Michael turned to Calla, who was sitting beside her, and bombarded her with a barrage of questions, "Why does Eloise suddenly show up at Harmony Health Hospital? Why did you suddenly perform surgery on her? How did she get here? Why didn't I hear anything before? Why didn't you contact me right away when you saw Eloise? Why did you perform the surgery before informing me? Have you thought about the risks?"

Hearing Michael's flood of questions, Calla felt a bit uneasy, not knowing how to respond.
