Chapter 545 Punishment
Glenn took a deep breath. "Elizabeth, I should've told you about this a long time ago. I was just worried that once you heard it, you wouldn't want to face it. It's my fault; I shouldn't have waited so long."
"Glenn, it's not your fault. I only had the brain CT a few days ago. Thanks. By the way, how did my ultrasound results turn out?"
Glenn was about to tell her the truth but hesitated, not wanting to add to her stress.
"It looks like your recent stress has caused some hormonal imbalance, which is why your period is late."
Elizabeth nodded. "Okay."
Glenn grew anxious. "Elizabeth, you can't just ignore the tumor in your brain. It's really serious. Think about the worst-case scenario. If something happens to you, who will take care of your three kids? I heard your husband has already married someone else."
Elizabeth's heart sank. No matter how good her relationship with Dean was, she couldn't burden him with raising her three kids. He had his own life to live.
As for Michael, if she died, he would inevitably stay with Cordelia. That would make Cordelia the kids' stepmother.
The thought of the word "stepmother" immediately brought Jennifer to Elizabeth's mind. She would never forget how Jennifer treated her back then.
No, she absolutely couldn't let her kids suffer at the hands of a stepmother. She had to face her illness head-on.
"Glenn, please come up with an initial treatment plan for me. Set up a time, and I'll come to the hospital to see you."
Glenn felt a wave of relief hearing her say that.
"Alright. As long as you're willing to have the surgery, I'll take care of everything else."
In a hotel room.
Nolan opened his laptop and started typing. A video appeared on the screen.
It was surveillance footage from The Murphy Castle, showing Victor's residence.
Nolan entered a phone number and forwarded the video.
Just as he was about to close the laptop, there was a knock at the door.
Nolan, still a child not yet ten, felt a surge of fear.
He quickly shut the laptop and quietly slipped into the bathroom, leaving the door slightly ajar to pretend no one was in the room.
The knocking continued.
Rufus's low voice came through the door. "Nolan, it's Rufus. Open up."
Nolan emerged from the bathroom and peered through the peephole.
Sure enough, Rufus was standing outside, cautiously glancing down the hallway.
Nolan opened the door and whispered, "Why aren't you protecting my mom? What are you doing here?"
Rufus slipped inside and quickly shut the door. "Nolan, your dad... Michael found out where you are. He sent me to find you and make sure you're safe. Victor knows you're in Majestic City and might try to harm you."
He handed Nolan a piece of paper. "This is your dad's new phone number. If you have an emergency, call him. The other number is for Mr. Stewart, your dad's friend. If you don't want to ask your dad for help, you can call Mr. Stewart."
Nolan didn't refuse. "Why didn't he come himself?"
"He couldn't. Gerald doesn't fully trust him. The Murphy family is always watching him. If he came to find you, he might be followed, and Gerald and Victor would discover your location. That would put you in danger."
Nolan sat down, defiant. "He's not stupid. But I don't need his help. I can handle Victor myself."
Rufus's eyes widened in disbelief. "Nolan! What are you talking about? You want to take on Victor? Are you crazy? Do you know who Victor is? He's Gerald's only son! Do you know who Gerald is? He's a powerful figure at the border! You can't afford to cross him!"
Nolan remained unfazed. "I don't care whose son he is. He wronged my mom, and he has to pay."
He looked up at Rufus. "I know he's got blood on his hands. He's killed many people. He's a monster who deserves to die. I'm just giving him a small taste of justice. It's nothing."
Rufus knew he couldn't change Nolan's mind, so he tried a different approach. "Nolan, can you at least give me your current contact information?"
Nolan stared at him. "Why?"
"Your mom has been trying to call you, but she can't get through. She thinks you changed your number after coming here. You have no idea how worried she is. Can you really let her be so anxious that she can't eat or sleep?"
Nolan stood up and took Rufus's phone, entering his number.
"Done."
Rufus took the phone, overjoyed. "Finally, something accomplished."
He looked at Nolan. "For your safety, I can't stay here long. But there's something I need to tell you."
Nolan frowned. "What is it?"
Rufus cleared his throat. "Your mom is sick. She might need surgery soon."
Nolan's voice changed immediately. "What kind of illness? Is it serious?"
Rufus looked down. "A brain tumor, pressing on her nerves. I don't know much more. Maybe you should look it up yourself?"
Nolan nodded. "Got it."
Rufus left.
Nolan reopened his laptop and typed "brain tumor" into the search bar.
The more he read, the more his hands trembled.
The phone vibrated, pulling him from his deep worry.
Nolan glanced at the unfamiliar number, knowing it was Michael.
"Nolan, it's Michael."
"I know."
"When are you going home? It's not safe for you here."
"I heard you lost your memory. How do you still remember me?"
"That's not important right now. I'll explain later. Your priority is to leave Majestic City and go home!"
"If you don't remember me, why should I listen to you?"
"Even if I don't remember you, I know you're my son."
"Do you remember Elizabeth? She's your wife, my mom."
"I don't remember."
"You used your amnesia as an excuse to marry another woman and abandon my mom! You're a jerk! A heartless man!"
"Nolan, listen to me. Don't judge me yet. Even though I don't remember your mom, I feel drawn to her whenever I see her. So I know we must have been deeply in love."
Michael added, "I heard you want to punish Victor. What's your plan?"
"Why should I tell you? You're part of the Murphy family!"
Michael sighed and hung up.
Nolan was about to toss the phone aside when another call came in.
