Chapter 185 A Man and a Woman

Pearl's eyes welled up with tears. "Nolan, I didn't mean to. I can't put it back in its original place, and I'm afraid of getting caught."

Nolan sighed, "I'm not mad at you. You mustn't mess with other people's things again. Alright, zip up your backpack. Let's wash up and eat. Grandma and Mom are definitely gonna give us a talking-to."

Pearl looked up. "Yeah, because we snuck out of preschool today without telling Grandma. Nolan, do you still hate Michael as much as before?"

Nolan nodded, "Of course I do! Why wouldn't I? That guy is so mean. I don't want him as my dad. Remember, Mom said he once tried to strangle us!"

Pearl lowered her head and whispered, "But he's really handsome! And I saw Eloise's room, it's like a princess's castle. He's so nice to Eloise..."

Her voice trailed off.

She wanted to say that maybe Michael wasn't as bad as they thought.

Moonlit Grove.

After getting up in the morning, Calla sat by the round table in the garden, sipping coffee and scrolling through her phone.

The garden was lush with flowers and plants, and the gardeners were busy trimming them.

There were also maids cleaning up the fallen leaves in the yard.

They were chatting in low voices. "Did you hear? Mr. Thomas brought Elizabeth back to the villa last night."

"They're divorced, right? Why are they together again?"

"They're not together. Elizabeth fainted outside. Mr. Thomas took her to the hospital and then brought her back."

"How could that be? Isn't Mr. Thomas dating Calla? Why did he bring Elizabeth back?"

"Keep your voice down! Calla is already up at this time. Be careful not to let her hear you."

The maids glanced towards the main building. They suddenly realized that Calla, whom they were talking about, was in the garden.

They quickly dispersed.

Calla gripped her coffee cup with one hand and tightly clutched the hem of her shawl with the other.

She was trying hard to control her anger.

Last night, she had just met with Elizabeth.

They had promised to keep each other's secrets and just reached an agreement.

Elizabeth had also promised Calla that she would stay far away from Michael.

What was going on now?

She was the recognized girlfriend here!

Elizabeth and Michael were in contact again! They were even staying in the same villa!

A man and a woman alone at night, who could believe nothing happened between them?

Calla took a deep breath, trying to control her emotions.

She stood up, slightly tilting her head, and went into the living room.

She instructed the maid who took care of her, "Go get me a bottle of red wine."

The maid respectfully replied, "Dr. Griffin, you just had coffee. It's not suitable to drink red wine right away."

Calla glared at her. "Do I need your advice on what I want to do?"

The maid bowed and answered, "I'll get the red wine for you right away."

Calla sat in her room, drinking wine in big gulps, angrily thinking, 'So what if I had a one-night stand with Anthony? That night, it wasn't intentional. But Michael? He deliberately brought Elizabeth back.'

She had felt guilty towards Michael because of her one-night stand.

Now, she felt no guilt at all.

After drinking coffee and then red wine, Carla felt dizzy. She ended up falling into a drowsy sleep.

She had no idea how long she had been out when she finally woke up.

The bright sunlight streamed in through the window, making her squint. The morning's gossip and the diamond brooch Michael gave Elizabeth still burned in her mind, fueling her anger.

She got out of bed and dialed Michael's number.

"Michael," Calla's voice was as sweet as ever.

"Calla," he replied, his voice a bit raspy due to lack of sleep.

"Michael, are you free today? I want to go to the jewelry store. Can you come with me?" she asked.

Michael was about to decline.

"Michael, remember that day you said you were busy and had Matthew go with me instead..." Before she could finish, Michael recalled Matthew mentioning that Calla had seen the custom diamond brooch he had made for Elizabeth at the jewelry store. But Calla had stayed calm, not confronting him or making a scene.

Michael thought, no matter what, Calla was still his girlfriend. He hadn't even spent her birthday with her. He should make time for her.

So he got out of bed and said, "Alright. Wait for me. I'll come to Moonlit Grove to pick you up."

Calla hung up, a cold smile playing on her lips. 'Elizabeth, don't think you can stir up trouble again.'

She put on her makeup, changed her clothes, and sat in the living room, waiting for Michael.

At Whispering Pines Estates, Pearl and Nolan had finished eating. Elizabeth called Nolan into the room. Before going in, Nolan exchanged a glance with Pearl.

Pearl whispered, "Nolan, you guessed right. Mom did look for you. What should we do about the box?"

Pearl pressed her lips together, nervously watching Nolan.

Nolan reassured her, "Don't worry. I won't betray you."

Nolan followed Elizabeth to her room on the second floor.

Elizabeth entered the room and closed the door behind them.

Nolan sat on the single sofa opposite her, looking a bit nervous.

Elizabeth looked serious. "Nolan, didn't you promise me you wouldn't provoke Michael again?"

Nolan lowered his head, staying silent.

Elizabeth continued, "Nolan, I know today was a special situation. You were worried about me because I was missing, so you hacked into his house's electrical and surveillance systems. Right?"

Nolan nodded slightly. "I'm sorry, Mom. I broke my promise."

Elizabeth sighed, "Nolan, I'm worried about you. I'm an adult. Even if something happens to me, you, as a child, shouldn't take risks for me. You can ask adults for help. Kids should do what kids do—grow up healthy, safe, and happy. Sneaking out of preschool like today is also very dangerous. You can't do it again."

Nolan nodded. "Mom, I understand."

Elizabeth added, "And about Michael. Remember to stay as far away from him as possible. Don't let him notice you and Pearl. And don't let him know that you two are his biological children."
