Chapter 400 The Truth of the Surgery
Sarah explained, "I've got classes around Christmas, so if I go home, the schedule's gonna be super tight. My mom thinks we should just stay here for now and head back during a longer break."
"Or maybe, if my dad's work slows down, he'll come here to be with us. Anyway, as long as the three of us are together, that's home."
Elizabeth nodded, "Yeah, totally."
Sarah asked, "Elizabeth, what about you? Are you going back for Christmas?"
Elizabeth smiled, "Nope, I'm staying here too. I actually want to spend Christmas here. Pearl and Nolan are coming over in a few days to celebrate with me. If Mr. Martinez is too busy to make it, why don't you and Mrs. Martinez come over to my place? The more, the merrier."
Sarah nodded happily, "Sure! It's a deal!"
Back home, Michael finally agreed to see a therapist.
He was worried that if he stayed stuck in his negative emotions for too long, it would mess up his relationship with Elizabeth and the kids.
He finally opened up a bit to the therapist.
The therapist reassured him that Eloise donated blood to Francis out of her selfless love for him.
In this world, love can surpass all other forces.
If she knew that her sacrifice resulted in Michael's long-lasting resentment, she would be heartbroken.
If Eloise had another chance, she would still choose to save Francis.
Michael decided he needed to face Eloise's death rationally. He couldn't take out his anger on Elizabeth and Francis. They were innocent.
Meanwhile, Jennifer had already heard about Anthony being bankrupted and in debt because of Michael.
At this moment, she was hiding in her large villa, trembling with fear.
She decided to call Michael to share some information and test his reaction.
"Mr. Thomas, it's Jennifer."
"Go ahead."
"Mr. Thomas, I've confirmed the matter of the box with Samuel. He didn't reveal much to me, but rest assured, I'll keep a close eye on him."
"You called just to tell me this nonsense? Do you think I have time to waste? If you're useless, I don't need to keep you around. Originally, I wanted to get rid of you for killing Elizabeth's mother."
Jennifer was even more terrified upon hearing this.
She swallowed hard and said with difficulty, "Mr. Thomas, I have some information that might be useful to you."
"Samuel said he plans to use the red box at a critical moment to deal with you. He should have secretly returned to the country for this box. He and Margaret are now staying in Samuel's first villa."
Michael took a deep breath, "Alright, I got it. I won't kill you for now."
Jennifer hung up the phone, her legs weak, sliding down to the carpet.
Indeed, only that red box could control Michael. She had to find a way to get that box.
The night was deep, and neon lights flickered outside. Michael exhaled a puff of smoke, took out his phone, and called his bodyguard.
"Is Samuel staying at the villa on Aspen Avenue? Are there any buildings nearby?"
"Mr. Thomas, there are few houses there, and the residents are far apart."
Michael exhaled another puff of smoke, his eyes darker than the night outside. He said calmly, "Alright, then kill him. Don't let him stay there."
"Understood, Mr. Thomas."
That night, the news reported: A villa on Aspen Avenue, which had been unoccupied for years, suddenly exploded. Police revealed that it was likely due to old gas facilities, which caused a leak and explosion when used. The accident resulted in two people being burned.
Upon seeing the news, Jennifer's first reaction was that Michael had acted against the Taylor siblings.
She knew Michael was ruthless, but she didn't expect him to act so swiftly. She had just informed him about Samuel, and he had already taken action.
Jennifer was terrified, unsure when Michael might come after her. Living in constant fear was unbearable. She had to find that mysterious box quickly.
She had her assistant order two bouquets of flowers and went to the hospital's burn unit to visit Samuel and Margaret.
Samuel lay in bed, groaning in pain. His burns were extensive, with yellow pus oozing from his body, looking horrifying.
When he saw Jennifer, he wanted to speak, but he couldn't. He could only stare at her with wide eyes.
Jennifer gave him a helpless look, unable to guess what he wanted to say.
Samuel's mother, Delilah Roberts, was by his side, gently moistening his lips with a water-dipped cotton swab.
Jennifer looked at Samuel and softly said to Delilah, "Mr. Taylor's condition isn't an accident. I'm afraid someone did this on purpose."
Samuel's eyes widened.
Delilah dabbed at her dry eyes with a handkerchief, "On purpose?"
Jennifer nodded, "It was Michael."
Samuel made agitated sounds from the bed.
Delilah quickly soothed him, "I understand, Samuel. Don't get worked up. Once you recover, we'll go back to Atheria and never return."
Jennifer stood behind Delilah, glanced at Samuel, shook her head helplessly, and left.
Samuel was too weak. To escape Michael's methods, she had to rely on herself.
In Aurora Bay, Michael decided to hold a funeral for Eloise.
He had already learned of Eloise's death from Louis. He was completely heartbroken.
Without Eloise's ashes, he could only build a cenotaph for her, placing her favorite items in her grave.
Cold rain fell from the sky.
In the cemetery, Pearl and Nolan stood beside Dean and Daniel, right behind Michael.
Michael placed a bouquet of pure white lilies in front of the tombstone.
Pearl cried softly, "Dean, why did Eloise suddenly die? Didn't Mom already operate on her twice? She should have recovered. Why did she still die? I'm so sad."
Dean whispered, "Eloise died to save Francis. She sacrificed herself to save his life. She was selfless."
Pearl sobbed, "Eloise was so foolish. Even if she wanted to save Francis, she didn't have to give up her own life!"
As Pearl and Dean whispered, Michael, standing in front of them, felt like he had been struck by lightning, his body instantly stiffening.
What did Pearl say? Both of Eloise's surgeries were performed by Elizabeth?
He had been completely deceived by Calla?
He had treated her like a lifesaver and even rewarded her with a substantial amount of money.
And Elizabeth? She knew the truth but watched him be fooled by Calla like an idiot without telling him.
Eloise had said she remembered Elizabeth's voice and insisted it was Elizabeth who operated on her. But he didn't believe her.
Is there anyone in the world more foolish than him?
