Chapter 523 A Spy
At that moment, Dean pulled Daniel into the living room.
Daniel asked Matthew, "Who's gonna be a dad?"
He knew Sarah was having trouble conceiving, so Matthew was the only guy left who could be the father.
Sarah quickly answered, "It's Matthew. He's gonna be a dad. Look, he's even willing to shop at baby stores now."
Matthew had already settled on the couch. "Alright, stop teasing me. Even though I'm about to be a dad, the kid's mom might not accept me."
Everyone, except Dean, exchanged puzzled looks.
Dean grabbed an orange from the table, peeled it, and handed it to Daniel.
Daniel took the orange and started eating. "Matthew, is there any woman in this world you can't win over?"
Matthew sighed. "I might have her body, but I can't win her heart. She doesn't like me."
Dean knew he was talking about Sherry. He often came back to check on the kids. Nolan and Pearl had already told him everything.
Sarah felt a pang of guilt. She didn't know the details. Lately, she had been busy rekindling her romance with David and had neglected Elizabeth.
She couldn't help but wonder if Matthew's apparent disdain for Elizabeth was because he wanted to compete with Michael for her.
She quickly dismissed the thought. It was too absurd. Matthew and Michael were like brothers, very close. How could he do something so shameless?
Just then, Sherry, Nolan, and Pearl returned.
Nolan saw everyone and didn't react much. He just stared at Matthew and asked, "Matthew, if you don't give your heart to others, how can you expect them to love you unconditionally? Isn't that unfair?"
Sherry didn't expect Nolan to speak up for her. She turned and kissed him on the cheek.
"Thank you, Nolan! You're so kind!"
Nolan quickly lowered his head, blushing, and headed to the kitchen.
"Susan, is there anything to eat? I'm starving."
Sarah finally understood. So, the person Matthew was talking about was Sherry.
She let out a big sigh of relief. As long as it didn't involve her Elizabeth, it was fine. Otherwise, it would be too ridiculous. She could finally relax and chat.
"I get it now. Some people only think about getting something in return without wanting to give anything. What a jerk!"
Sarah turned to Sherry. "You're Sherry, right? Elizabeth has mentioned you."
She walked over, linking arms with Sherry, and sincerely complimented her. "You're really beautiful!"
Sherry blushed and lowered her head. "Thank you! You're beautiful too."
In the past, many people had coveted her beauty. Her pretty face had brought her countless troubles.
But Elizabeth had told her that beauty was a blessing and a fortune from above. In the future, someone would protect her, and she wouldn't have to worry about her looks and figure anymore.
Sherry looked at Sarah and smiled at the girl with the sweet smile. "Are you Sarah? Elizabeth told me that if I needed anything, I could ask you for help. But I didn't want to bother you."
Sarah's smile grew even brighter. "What's the big deal? If Elizabeth said so, then I'll protect you here in Aurora Bay! No one will dare to bully you!"
She shot a glance at Matthew on the couch. "Especially certain awful men who only think about possessing your body. Don't be easily fooled and lose both your body and heart."
David gently tugged at her. "Sarah!"
Sarah glared at him. "What? Did I say something wrong? Sherry looks like a simple girl. She's far from home and family, so she's easily deceived. She's staying at Elizabeth's place, and with Elizabeth not around, I have to protect her! I can't let anyone easily take her away!"
David pulled her close and whispered, "But you should ask Sherry what she wants. What if she wants to be with Matthew?"
Sarah looked at Sherry. "Sherry, this guy says he likes you. Do you like him?"
Sherry blushed and lowered her head. "I..."
Matthew stood up and pulled Sherry along. "Come with me."
Sarah immediately stood up. "Matthew! What are you doing?"
David quickly held her back. "Alright, Sarah, Matthew probably has something to say to Sherry in private. Let's give them some space."
Sarah blinked. "Okay."
David found her innocent look adorable and kissed her on the forehead.
Matthew led Sherry to the backyard.
Under the rose trellis, Matthew said, "Sherry, I'm here to ask you to move into my apartment."
Alone with Matthew, Sherry was no longer as flustered. She calmly replied, "No."
Matthew's eyes widened. "Why not? Didn't you always want to live with me before?"
Sherry replied lightly, "Before, I wanted to help Elizabeth find out if you were still in contact with Michael and where he went."
Matthew frowned. "So you were a spy!"
Sherry nodded. "Yes. So, do you still want me to move in?"
Matthew sighed and took a step closer. "Yes! Move in! You're an outsider, and it's not appropriate for you to stay here long-term."
Sherry took a step back. "How am I an outsider? I'm the kids' aunt. I'm not an outsider. Moving into your apartment would make me an outsider! If your parents come and misunderstand our relationship again, you'll scold me for forcing you into marriage. I don't want to be scolded."
Matthew took another step closer and said softly, "I'm sorry. I was wrong before."
Sherry, now backed against a pillar, turned her head away. "We're not married or dating. Why should we live together? If word gets out, won't it ruin your chances of finding love?"
Matthew chuckled bitterly. "Sherry, where did you hear such things? I'm not as promiscuous as you think."
Sherry looked at him. "You hang out with people like Owen. I assumed you were the same."
Matthew said seriously, "I'm not like him. Don't wrong me. Besides, I've already set him straight."
He continued to persuade her. "Sherry, Michael has been missing for a while. Elizabeth is busy looking for him. She's probably overwhelmed. Do you really want to stay here and distract her?"
Matthew took another step forward, getting closer to Sherry. She could feel his breath on her face.
She stood up straight and pushed Matthew away. "Don't get so close to me."
