Chapter 272 Major Life Events

Matthew's eyes were filled with gossipy curiosity.

He grinned and asked Michael, "Hey, Michael, what were you doing at the signing event between the Jones Group and that singer? Plus, you're still not fully recovered. There were so many fans there. What if you got trampled or something? That'd be dangerous!"

Michael shot him a cold look, then turned to the bodyguard and said, "Get the wheelchair."

Matthew and Daniel exchanged glances.

Daniel: "See, Mr. Thomas is dead set on going. You can't change his mind."

Matthew: "Michael is so stubborn!"

Daniel: "Mr. Thomas is usually pretty flexible about other things."

Matthew: "Yeah, but when it comes to Elizabeth, he digs his heels in!"

Daniel: "So, what do we do now?"

Matthew: "What else can we do? Just take it one step at a time."

Matthew shook his head, looking helpless.

At the signing event, at the fans' strong request, Carter sang a few lines of his new song "With You" live.

The crowd went wild, and the fans' excited screams almost blew the roof off.

While singing, Carter kept glancing at Elizabeth.

His gaze was so intense that Elizabeth couldn't bring herself to look back at him.

On the second floor, directly opposite the hall, Michael sat in a wheelchair, watching everything with a cold expression.

His hand gripped the wheelchair armrest so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

Matthew frowned as he looked at Michael, thinking, 'Doesn't he know his body can't handle this stress? Watching the live broadcast in the hospital wasn't enough; he had to come here and torture himself.'

Matthew held Michael's hand with concern and said, "Michael, stop watching. Let's go back!"

But Michael brushed his hand away and said, "You and Daniel go back to work. Don't worry about me."

Daniel stepped forward and said, "Mr. Thomas, the air here isn't great. It's not good for your recovery. Let me take you outside."

This time, Michael didn't refuse.

The doctor had warned him that his heart was injured, and a section of his rib was cut during the suturing. He needed to avoid coughing as it would pull on the wound and cause immense pain.

There were so many people here, and the air was bad. Plus, although the view from the second floor was great, it hadn't been cleaned for a long time and was full of dust.

He couldn't help but want to cough. If that happened, it might attract the attention of the staff and Elizabeth.

Michael didn't want her to see him in such a miserable state.

He only wanted her to see his perfect side, even though he often lost control in front of her.

He gestured backward, and the bodyguard who had been standing behind him stepped forward to help push the wheelchair out of the venue.

On the way, the bodyguard said in a low voice, "Mr. Thomas, Elizabeth came to the hospital to see you that day. I thought her appearance would cause you emotional turmoil, which would be bad for your recovery, so I stopped her from entering the ward."

Upon hearing this, Michael immediately pressed the stop button on the wheelchair.

His voice was ice-cold. "You can leave. Go to the finance department tomorrow to collect three months' salary. You don't need to come back."

The bodyguard was terrified and said, "Mr. Thomas! I did it for your health!"

But Michael's tone was steady. "I don't need a subordinate who makes decisions for me."

The bodyguard was almost in tears.

In Aurora Bay, who didn't know that working for Michael's company paid exceptionally well?

Michael had a bunch of bodyguards who rotated shifts. The job was easy, and the pay was great. Where else could the bodyguard find such a sweet gig if he left here?

He immediately pleaded, "Mr. Thomas, I won't dare to do it again."

Michael turned the wheelchair and bypassed him. "There won't be a next time," he said.

Daniel stepped forward, helping to push the wheelchair into the elevator and out of the building.

Standing on the stage, Elizabeth glanced out the window and vaguely saw a familiar figure.

At that moment, a reporter asked a question, and Carter gently called her, "Elizabeth."

Elizabeth snapped back to reality and asked, "What?"

She quickly regained her composure, thinking she must have been mistaken. Michael couldn't avoid her fast enough, so how could he have come here to see her?

Besides, he hadn't been discharged from the hospital yet. How could the doctor allow an injured person to wander around? If something happened, who would be responsible?

Back in the hospital room, Michael was helped onto the bed by Daniel and Matthew.

The attending doctor had been waiting in the room and said, "Mr. Thomas, you were really too bold this time. You can't just run out like that anymore. Your wound is still healing. What if you get an infection? Who would be responsible?"

Michael didn't hesitate and replied, "I would be."

The doctor was almost choked by his words.

He paused for a while and then earnestly said to Michael, "The important thing now is not to discuss responsibility. I need to remind you again, you can't be so reckless. You injured your heart! That's such a vital organ! Do I need to emphasize how crucial it is? It supplies energy to your entire body! You're still so young. Do you want to never engage in high-intensity exercise again? Or never have passionate moments with your lover?"

Hearing this, the three were stunned.

Wasn't it the heart that was injured? How did it involve making love?

But Michael quickly understood, and he complied, "I see. I will cooperate with the treatment and strive to be discharged soon."

The doctor took out a stethoscope, performed a heart and lung examination, and then left the room.

As he walked out, he muttered, "They won't listen to good advice unless I speak bluntly. They don't care about important life matters at all."

Watching the doctor leave, Michael said to Matthew and Daniel, "There's nothing urgent here. You guys can go back to the company."

Daniel was worried and said, "Mr. Thomas, you just dismissed a bodyguard. There's one less person outside. I'll transfer someone from the villa to take over."

Michael nodded and said, "Okay."

The two of them then left the room.

The sky outside gradually darkened.

After dinner, Michael sat on the bed, looking at the dark sky outside, replaying the events of the day in his mind.

That day, it really wasn't his imagination. Elizabeth had come to see him.

If the bodyguard hadn't stopped her, what would her reaction have been when she saw him? What would she say to him?

Wish him a speedy recovery?

How ironic. Impossible. She had clearly pointed a weapon at him that day. She wanted his life.

Michael suddenly remembered seeing her and Carter together today.

She looked so bright and happy. Did she like that singer?

They appeared in matching outfits in public, openly. Were they dating?

Could it be, as the internet said, they were announcing their relationship? Were they in love?

Did she come last time to tell him this?

Michael pounded the bed heavily, thinking, 'Then she really shouldn't have come at all!'
