Chapter 300 Jealous and Childish
Michael finished his sentence and looked at Elizabeth.
Usually, whenever he teased her like this, she would glare at him with anger.
But today, Elizabeth was acting very strange. Not only did she not get angry, but she also gazed at him with an infinite tenderness in her eyes.
Michael felt something was off. Something was definitely wrong with her.
Just as he was about to ask, Elizabeth spoke up, "Michael, what's your nephew Anthony been up to lately?"
Hearing that name, Michael's mood soured instantly. "Why bring him up? It's a buzzkill."
Elizabeth continued, "Did you ever love Calla?"
Michael answered seriously, "Never."
Elizabeth pressed on, "If she were with someone else, would you be upset?"
He shook his head immediately, "Of course not. That's her choice."
Elizabeth then asked, "What about me? What if I were with someone else?"
Michael grabbed her chin firmly, "Elizabeth, don't test my limits! No one else can be with you!"
Elizabeth gave a bitter smile, "We're already divorced. Can you still control me? You can date Calla, but I can't have the freedom to date? Do you have double standards?"
Michael retorted, "Absolutely not! You can have friends, but no boyfriends! If you date someone, I'll break you up!"
Elizabeth sighed, "Alright, I understand."
She turned and went back to the yard.
Michael stood there and made a call, "Investigate what Anthony and Calla have been up to lately."
That evening, Michael called Elizabeth. "Thanks for your hospitality today."
"I was just thanking you for your help at the Dark Private Club."
"I thought you already repaid me in the car."
Elizabeth's face blushed. "Alright. I accept your thanks."
"Reciprocity is important. I need to return the favor."
"No need to be so polite."
"Tomorrow's the weekend. You don't have to go to the office, right?"
"Right, I'll be at home."
"I'll wait for you at your place tomorrow."
"Michael..." Elizabeth called out, but Michael had already hung up.
Elizabeth looked at her phone helplessly. 'This guy, always leaving things half-said, making it hard for me to sleep.'
The next morning, Elizabeth didn't sleep in. She was afraid Michael would ring the doorbell and wake the kids.
But this time, Michael arrived at nine.
Elizabeth got in the car. "Where are we going?"
She was really afraid he'd take her to that mountain estate again.
Michael said, "First, breakfast."
Elizabeth had no objections. She was hungry too.
After breakfast, the driver took them to a high-end store.
Michael pointed at the clothes, "Pick something you like. Try it on."
Elizabeth protested, "Spare me. I don't want to shop. Trying on clothes is exhausting."
Michael snapped his fingers, and bodyguards brought forward three young women with similar body types and skin tones to Elizabeth.
Michael said, "You don't need to try them on yourself. Just tell me which ones you like, and they'll try them on for you."
Elizabeth thought, 'That's perfect.'
She told the store clerk which styles she liked. The clerk checked her size and then had the models try on the clothes.
Elizabeth just had to sit there and watch the models.
After buying the clothes, Michael took her to a jewelry store and bought her a complete set of sapphire jewelry.
On the way home, Michael asked cautiously, "Can you come with me to a charity gala tonight?"
Elizabeth hesitated for a moment but didn't refuse.
Michael pushed his luck, "Wear this dress with the jewelry."
He pulled out a gown from the shopping bags.
Elizabeth took it, "Okay."
"I'll pick you up at six."
"Okay."
The charity gala was at Serenity Pines Estate. Elizabeth had been there before. Last time, she came alone.
This time, she walked in with Michael, holding his arm, guided respectfully by the staff.
Their arrival caused quite a stir.
A handsome man and a beautiful woman always attracted attention. Especially when that man was Michael.
In Aurora Bay, anyone who could get close to Michael could benefit from the business opportunities he casually provided, enough to sustain a small company for a year.
The guests' eyes lingered on them.
Elizabeth felt awkward. They were divorced, yet here they were together. It was too embarrassing.
A woman in a purple dress who knew her approached, "Ms. Jones, you're here."
Elizabeth smiled and nodded.
The woman in the purple dress continued, "Ms. Jones, are you dating Mr. Thomas?"
Elizabeth was shocked. Was it that obvious?
The woman in the purple dress smiled, a hint of smugness in her voice, "That necklace you're wearing, I saw it at the jewelry store. It's very expensive! Mr. Thomas must really spoil you. He's even wearing sapphire cufflinks to match your necklace. And your outfits today, they're coordinated, right?"
Elizabeth was speechless. She hadn't realized Michael had put so much thought into it. He deliberately took her shopping for matching outfits and jewelry.
Michael's little schemes were too much!
Such a petty man! Still holding a grudge over Carter and her matching outfits!
He brought her to this important event just to one-up Carter? What a jealous, childish man!
That night, Jennifer called Calla.
Calla was still angry, "Jennifer, why are you calling me? Are you going to pay back the money? Do you have $2 billion?"
Jennifer said, "Calla, I know what you're worried about. Besides the money, you're also worried about reputation. I agree to your terms. I can break up peacefully."
Calla snapped, "Jennifer, after what you did, caught in the act, how could my father continue with you? Do you think you deserve him?"
Jennifer admitted, "I was reckless. I can break up. But I can't return the $2 billion right now."
Calla had had enough, "Then why are you calling?"
Jennifer insisted, "There's something fishy about the Dark Private Club incident! I was set up!"
Calla retorted, "Jennifer, if you didn't give others leverage, how could they set you up?"
Jennifer vowed, "I'll find out who set me up!"
Calla dismissed her, "Then go investigate!"
After hanging up, Jennifer fumed. She had always been discreet. How could it be such a coincidence that day? That car just happened to crash into hers?
If it weren't for the crash, the paparazzi wouldn't have swarmed.
She clenched her fists, gritting her teeth. She would find out who was behind this and make them pay!
