Chapter 376 Oath

The nurse looked at the new dad, who was both mature and handsome, and said warmly, "Of course. Go be with your wife! We've got things under control here."

Michael took a quick glance at Francis in the incubator, snapped a few photos, and hurried out of the pediatric ward, heading straight for the operating room.

The light outside the operating room was still on. Elizabeth hadn't come out yet.

Michael paced anxiously in the hallway.

David stood nearby, constantly glancing toward the elevator.

Finally, the elevator dinged, and Sarah appeared.

He ran to her and pulled her into a tight hug. "Sarah, thank God you're here! I was so scared!"

Sarah's face was pale, her lips colorless. She looked at David. "Where's Elizabeth? How is she?"

David spoke softly, "Elizabeth is still in surgery. They're stitching her up. The baby is out, and Elizabeth will be out soon too. Try not to worry too much. You should rest a bit."

Hearing this, Sarah finally breathed a sigh of relief. She seemed to lose all her strength and weakly said, "As long as Elizabeth is okay, that's all that matters."

She collapsed into David's arms like a puppet with its strings cut.

David shouted, "Sarah? Sarah! What's wrong?"

He noticed the bloodstains on her chest and was horrified. "What's going on? Why is there blood? Sarah, are you hurt? Where does it hurt?"

Dean rushed over upon hearing the commotion.

A bodyguard whispered, "Ms. Martinez said on the way here that her stomach hurt. She was kicked by that thug."

Dean gasped, "There's so much blood on her pants!"

David suddenly remembered that Elizabeth had mentioned Sarah was pregnant.

His heart shattered with pain as he picked Sarah up and rushed toward the operating room. "Doctor! Doctor! Save my wife!"

He banged his head against the operating room door, shouting desperately.

Michael pulled him back. "David, calm down."

Louis was already on the phone.

Soon, medical staff arrived with a stretcher.

They lifted Sarah onto the stretcher and quickly wheeled her to another operating room.

David followed closely behind.

At the operating room door, the nurse closed the door, leaving him to wait outside.

David sat on the floor, dazed, his hands clutching his head, tearing at his hair.

He muttered to himself, "It's all my fault. I should have been with her more."

Michael walked over and gripped his shoulder. "David, don't worry. Whoever did this, I won't let them get away with it. I'll make sure Elizabeth and Sarah get justice."

David clung to his arm like a lifeline. "Michael, will Sarah be okay? Will she die? I love her! I can't lose her!"

He broke down in tears.

Michael stayed by his side, letting him lean on him.

Finally, the indicator light outside the operating room went off.

Michael stood up immediately.

The operating room door opened, and the medical staff wheeled Elizabeth out.

Everyone rushed over.

A nurse extended her arm to remind them, "The patient is still under anesthesia and hasn't woken up yet. We'll take her back to the maternity ward first."

Louis and Dean quickly made way.

Michael and Eloise stayed by Elizabeth's side.

After what felt like an eternity, Elizabeth finally woke up. She slowly opened her eyes, her mind still a bit foggy.

She reached out, and Michael grabbed her hand. "Elizabeth, you're finally awake."

Elizabeth steadied herself and looked at him, weakly asking, "Where's Sarah? How is she?"

Michael held her hand tightly against his face. "Elizabeth, don't worry. Sarah's in the gynecology ward next door. Once you're up and about, you can go see her."

Elizabeth's face showed concern. "Why is she in the gynecology ward? What happened to her?"

As she spoke, she tried to sit up, but the sudden movement pulled at her surgical incision, causing her to break out in a cold sweat from the pain.

Michael stood up to support her. "Elizabeth, take it easy. You just had a C-section. Aren't you curious about what our baby looks like?"

Elizabeth finally remembered. 'Yes, where is my baby?'

Michael looked at her dazed expression, shook his head helplessly, and opened the photo album on his phone to show her pictures of Francis.

Elizabeth glanced at the photos. "So ugly."

Despite her words, her eyes remained fixed on Francis' little face, her hand gently touching the screen as if she were really caressing her child.

She asked, "Where is Francis now?"

Michael put his phone away and helped her lie back down. "Francis was born prematurely, so he's in the neonatal intensive care unit. Once you recover a bit, you can go see him."

"Can you get my phone? I want to video call Sarah."

Michael handed her the phone. "Sarah might be busy right now. David is with her. Maybe you should call her later?"

Elizabeth nodded. David was usually very busy, and since their marriage, he had spent very little time with Sarah. She decided not to disturb their time together.

Michael brought a cup with a straw to her lips. "Elizabeth, have some water."

He gently stroked her forehead. "You've been through a lot. It must have been so painful."

Elizabeth drank the water and looked at him. "It wasn't too bad. It doesn't hurt much now."

Michael put the cup away. "The doctor said the anesthesia hasn't worn off yet. That's why you don't feel the pain. Once it does, you'll feel the incision."

Elizabeth nodded lightly. "I know."

Michael felt a moment of awkwardness. He almost forgot that she had already given birth once before.

He lowered his head, feeling both guilty and sad. He had seen her struggles and hardships while carrying Francis.

But what about five years ago? She was in a foreign country, pregnant with twins, managing her studies, and with little financial support.

How difficult those days must have been for her?

Yet she never sought his help. Because back then, he had threatened to kill their children with his own hands.

Michael stood up and slapped himself hard.

Elizabeth was almost scared out of her wits. She raised her arm and tugged at his sleeve. "Michael! What are you doing?"

Michael sat down, his eyes red. "Elizabeth, I'm sorry. Forget all the horrible things I said before. From now on, I promise to stay by your side and protect you all."

He added, "I'll be there for Nolan, Pearl, and Francis as they grow up. I'll be a good father and never let you and the kids down."

Elizabeth's eyes filled with tears as she smiled at him. "Okay! I believe you!"

Hearing Michael say this, all the past hardships finally seemed to fade away. From now on, it would be happy days, right?

Elizabeth thought to herself, 'Can I finally let go now?'
