Chapter 217 Fall Into Michael's Arms
In the evening, Elizabeth and Dean rolled into the hotel's small banquet hall.
Sarah and David were already hanging out there.
Elizabeth grinned, "Hey guys, we're all friends here tonight. No need to be all formal. Just chill."
Dean spotted Daniel and made a beeline for him. "So, you still up for that drinking contest tonight?"
Daniel, munching on dessert, glanced up at Dean. "Dude, why do you always wanna have a drinking contest every time we meet? Can't we do something else for a change?"
Daniel put his spoon down and was about to walk away.
Dean raised a hand. "Hold up."
Daniel leaned back a bit, eyeing him suspiciously. "What now? You gonna punch me in front of everyone?"
Dean just wiped some cream off the corner of Daniel's mouth and sighed, "Man, you can't even eat cake without making a mess."
Daniel didn't see that coming.
He blushed, clutching his plate as he walked off.
He was worried that if he stayed, Dean might hear his heart pounding.
Dean watched Daniel walk away and shook his head with a smile.
He looked at the bit of cream on his thumb, raised it, and sniffed it.
A hand landed on his shoulder, making him jump.
He quickly wiped the smile off his face and turned around.
"Elizabeth. You nearly gave me a heart attack!" He grumbled.
Elizabeth stood next to him, both of them looking in Daniel's direction.
Elizabeth leaned in and asked, "Is it sweet?"
"Yeah, sweet," Dean replied softly.
Elizabeth patted his shoulder with a knowing smile. "Dean, you've fallen for him."
Just then, Elizabeth's phone rang. She answered, "Louis."
Louis said, "Elizabeth, if you're free, get to Harmony Health Hospital ASAP."
Dean noticed her serious look and asked, "What's up?"
Elizabeth put her phone away. "Nothing major. I need to step out for a bit. Hold down the fort here."
Dean nodded, "No problem. I got this. You go ahead."
Elizabeth reminded him, "Don't drink too much. Be careful."
Dean waved her off, "Go on. I know what I'm doing."
Then he headed towards Daniel, while Elizabeth headed to the hotel parking lot.
Elizabeth pushed open the door to the special ward at Harmony Health Hospital. "Louis, how's Carter?"
Louis walked over, looking pleased. "Elizabeth, congrats. The surgery was a success. Carter McGinnis is showing significant improvement and might wake up soon."
Elizabeth let out a sigh of relief and smiled. "That's great."
Louis praised her, "Elizabeth, no wonder Ms. Johnson thought so highly of you. You're her best student for a reason. Carter's family went to countless hospitals and doctors, but no one could help him until you came along. You're amazing!"
Elizabeth felt a bit shy. "I just did my best. I don't know if he'll be back to his old self, but I really like his singing."
Three years ago, before Carter's stage accident, he was a nationally famous singer and a hot star.
As Elizabeth took on his case, she got more interested in his past.
She looked up his songs and concert videos online and felt more determined to help him.
He was so handsome, so young, sang so well, and had a good character.
He'd been in the industry for years without any scandals.
After leaving the hospital, Louis asked Elizabeth, "Elizabeth, I couldn't ask you in the hospital earlier, but did you drink?"
Elizabeth nodded. "Yeah, Louis, I was gonna tell you. Tried calling earlier but couldn't get through. Got a banquet at the hotel tonight. Wanna join me?"
Louis asked, "You drank, so how'd you get here?"
Elizabeth tilted her head and smiled. "Hired a driver. Figured you wouldn't have had anything to drink, so you can drive me back now." She handed the keys to Louis as she spoke.
Louis shook his head with a smile. "Guess I have to now."
They arrived at the banquet hall and walked in side by side.
As soon as the glass door opened, Elizabeth spotted Michael.
She scanned the hall for Dean.
Dean was still chatting happily with Daniel.
Elizabeth walked over, arms crossed. "Dean, what's the deal with that guy? Who let him in?"
She tilted her head, pointing her chin at Michael.
Dean stammered.
Daniel quickly jumped in, "Ms. Jones, don't misunderstand. Michael called me and asked where I was. I told him I was at your banquet. He said he'd come find me, so I gave him the address. When he got here, he didn't say what he wanted. But, Ms. Jones, he paid the bill for you."
Dean nodded, confirming it.
Elizabeth pulled Dean aside. "I asked you to handle things. Is this how you do it?"
Dean looked innocent. "He didn't tell me he was gonna pay the bill."
He spread his hands and then smiled. "Elizabeth, think about it. He paid the bill for you, so you saved money. Isn't that a good thing?"
Elizabeth glared at him. "Do I look like I need the money?"
Dean conceded, "No, you don't."
Elizabeth said, "Everyone here is my guest. Michael paid the bill. Does that make any sense? Now I can't even kick him out!"
Dean whispered in her ear, "Ever think Michael did it on purpose? He was afraid you'd kick him out, so he quickly paid the bill."
Elizabeth said, "I'll deal with you properly when we get home."
Dean made a scared face.
Elizabeth shook her head with a smile and walked inside with Louis.
Michael walked over at some point and grabbed her.
Elizabeth, wearing high heels, was pulled so forcefully by Michael that she lost her balance and fell into his arms. Instinctively, she wrapped her arms around his waist.
Michael looked down at her. "When I got here, I saw you rush out. Then Louis came back with you. After going out, why do you look so radiant? You seem to be in a better mood?"
Elizabeth stood up straight and pushed him away.
She adjusted her dress and didn't look at him. "None of your business."
Michael grabbed her arm again. "Again with 'none of your business,' can't you say something else to me?"
Elizabeth ignored him and looked around because, in just a short span of time, Louis had disappeared.
Just now, Michael's guys had invited Louis into a private room.
Elizabeth thought, 'The banquet hall is so big; maybe Louis went to get some food. He might show up anytime.'
So she went to chat with Sarah.
Sarah smiled mischievously. "Elizabeth, I saw everything just now."
She raised her shoulder and bumped into Elizabeth.
Elizabeth almost stumbled again, but Sarah quickly grabbed her.
She laughed. "Elizabeth, you should practice wearing high heels more often. They look good on you. You look much more spirited!"
Elizabeth took a champagne glass from the side, poured some champagne, and toasted Sarah. "Alright. I'll take your advice."
Sarah whispered, "I have to say, Elizabeth, that Michael seemed to enjoy your falling into his arms just now."
