Chapter 19 I'm Not Looking for Him

"Elizabeth, we ain't divorced yet. Technically, you're still my wife. So, if there's any business shindig coming up, you gotta roll with me. And when you pull that stunt again, dressing all hot to catch eyes and boozing with other men, have you thought about what folks in Aurora Bay will say about me behind my back?" he fumed.

Elizabeth shot back, "Are you saying I'm cheating on you? It's just a dress. Plus, I already told you, I didn't drink that night. Charles wanted me to reel in some investors, so I went. He lent me that dress and told me to glam up. "

She did nothing wrong, yet Michael was being a total jerk.

She added, "Michael, seriously? A woman put on a nice dress and she has to be out looking for men? What about the women in your office? They dress up every day for work. Are you saying they're sluts? Would they agree with you?"

Michael was so old-school.

Elizabeth rolled her eyes, totally over it.

They were on completely different wavelengths.

Hearing her rant, Michael got even more ticked off and laughed bitterly, "You think you did nothing wrong, huh? Next time Charles asks you to dress all sexy and drink with men, you'll go, right?"

Elizabeth felt a bit freaked out by his smile and instinctively shrank back.

She replied, "No way. Next time I'll make sure to ask first. Besides, I don't drink at all, so I won't be drinking with anyone. No matter how much I'm pushed, I won't drink."

She was pregnant, after all.

She went last time to save Robert's company, but she wouldn't risk her kids for sure.

They were her closest family now.

Hearing her response, Michael cooled off.

They stayed quiet on the ride back.

The driver took them back to the Sunset Heights.

Elizabeth couldn't wait and got out of the car.

Michael watched her rush off, deep in thought.

He looked up and told the driver, "Take me to the office."

Elizabeth headed into the mansion.

Susan walked up to her and said, "Mrs. Thomas, how was lunch?"

Elizabeth changed her shoes and replied, "Susan. I had a big lunch. I'm gonna take a nap."

Susan nodded, taking Elizabeth's bag, "Mrs. Thomas, I made your bed and you can take a rest."

"Okay." Elizabeth went to her room and had a peaceful nap.

With Michael not around, she felt super relaxed.

She awoke, changed clothes, and grabbed a cab to The Jones Group.

Charles was already waiting in the conference room, "Elizabeth, you're here."

"Mr. Wilson, I've made up my mind. I'm selling all the houses, cars, and shops my dad left me."

Charles replied, "Elizabeth, that's a big sacrifice. Your dad left those for you to have a good life."

Elizabeth grinned, "Let's not sweat the details now. Let's just liquidate everything we can first. Mr. Wilson, you got this?"

Charles nodded. "Alright, no sweat. I'll handle it."

"Let's see how much of a funding gap we still got. We can sell off assets while hunting for investors," Elizabeth added.

Charles responded, "Got it. The quicker we get the new product out, the quicker we start raking in cash."

"The presidents of Pinnacle Bank and Evergreen Financial were totally pissed at me last night. Those banks are a no-go for loans now. We gotta find other options," Elizabeth said.

Charles frowned, looking down, "Elizabeth, don't beat yourself up. I didn't think it through. You're still young. Even if you had drunk last night, they would've pushed for more. We're doing this for the company, but I can't push you that far."

Elizabeth nodded, "Even if you did, I wouldn't go for it."

Charles blushed a bit and nodded.

Elizabeth asked, "Mr. Wilson, know any rich folks who might lend us some cash?"

Charles looked up, "I got a list. They're top dogs on the Aurora Bay rich list. Elizabeth, if any of them help us, we can pull through this and revive the company." He handed the list to Elizabeth.

Elizabeth took the list and skimmed through it.

She spotted a familiar name.

Michael.

Seeing his name, Elizabeth felt a bit uneasy.

She asked nervously, "Does Michael really have that much money?"

She knew Michael was loaded but didn't realize he was that rich.

No wonder the relatives and friends of the Thomas family was so freaked out about her borrowing money from him.

Mary was so desperate to find him a wife when he was in a coma probably to find a suitable woman to pop out a legit heir.

That was Mary's real game.

Elizabeth was just a pawn.

Once the kid was born, her job would be done.

All that talk about being a good wife to Michael was just to keep her in check.

Elizabeth felt a chill in her heart.

The Thomas family was more dangerous than she thought.

She just wanted to bail out fast.

She didn't want to get tangled up with them.

Charles kept talking about Michael, "No one in Aurora Bay knows exactly how much Michael's worth. No one’s ever nailed down his wealth. He's a rare business whiz. When the internet first blew up, he founded STellar Enterprises. You can imagine how loaded he is."

Charles hadn't finished, "But his private number is a secret. If you wanna find him, you gotta go to STellar Enterprises and wait for an appointment at the front desk. If you decide to seek his investment, I'll go with you."

Elizabeth shook her head firmly, "I was just curious. I won't ask him."

Michael wouldn't lend her money anyway but humiliate her indeed.
