Chapter 355 Men Are Often So Clueless and Insensitive
Elizabeth was worried that recording and uploading the scandalous video to ruin her reputation was just Margaret's first move against her.
If Elizabeth managed to get through this, she feared Margaret would continue to set other traps for her.
Octavia's face, which looked just like hers, must be Margaret's trump card.
Elizabeth had just hung up the phone when it rang again. It was Sarah.
As soon as she answered, Sarah's loud voice came through. "Elizabeth, where are you right now? Is anyone with you?"
Elizabeth tried to sound relaxed. "I'm home alone. Dean's at work. What's up, Sarah?"
Hearing nothing unusual in Elizabeth's voice, Sarah guessed she hadn't seen the video or the nasty comments yet.
Her voice was filled with concern. "Elizabeth, you're seven months pregnant now. You shouldn't be on your phone so much. I've heard that phone radiation is really bad for the baby, you know?"
Elizabeth smiled. "Okay, Sarah, I'll listen to you. I won't look at my phone."
She asked Sarah, "Sarah, is there something you needed to talk about?"
Sarah immediately complained, "Elizabeth, what's going on with you? If I don't call you, you never reach out to me. How long has it been since we last saw each other? Don't you miss me?"
Elizabeth quickly reassured her, "It's not that, Sarah. I've just been really busy lately..."
Sarah cut her off, "Busy with what? That's just an excuse, right? Are you only concerned about Michael and ignoring me?"
At the mention of Michael, Elizabeth's expression changed. "Sarah, let's not talk about him."
Sensing something was off, Sarah quickly changed the subject, "Okay, we won't talk about him. Men are often so clueless and insensitive. None of them are worth the trouble!"
Without waiting for Elizabeth to respond, Sarah continued earnestly, "Elizabeth, I actually have something important to tell you. David mentioned that Matthew has always liked Margaret."
"Margaret used to like Michael, right? She turned Matthew down, but he never gave up. Now, Margaret is at Michael's company every day. You need to watch out for her trying to seduce Michael!"
"Especially with Octavia and Matthew helping her. Octavia even got surgery to look like you. It's clear she's up to no good!"
Elizabeth remained calm. "Thanks for the warning, Sarah. But Michael and I are divorced. He's free to be with anyone he wants, and so am I."
Sarah sighed. "Elizabeth, come on. I know you haven't moved on from Michael. You might say you have, but deep down, have you really?"
She paused, then continued, "If you want to be with him, you need to protect yourself from others. Even if you don't attack them, you need to defend yourself from their schemes. Understand?"
It seemed Sarah had seen the video online.
Elizabeth asked directly, "Sarah, have you seen that video?"
Sarah was taken aback, thinking Elizabeth didn't know about it.
Since Elizabeth was aware, Sarah decided to be straightforward. "Yeah, I saw it, and the comments too. They made me so mad!"
"Those people must be blind. That woman isn't you! It's definitely Octavia, working with Margaret to frame you. Their target is Michael. They know he still cares about you, so they want to ruin your reputation to make Michael hate you!"
"That way, Michael will notice Octavia, who looks like you. Then Margaret can get rid of Octavia and take her place."
"Elizabeth, trust me, that's their plan! As long as you stand strong, they'll keep coming after you. But don't worry, Dean and I are always on your side."
Elizabeth felt touched. Despite Michael, Matthew, and many others believing the woman in the video was her, her two best friends, Dean and Sarah, trusted her unconditionally.
This made her even more disappointed in Michael.
Sarah, not hearing a response, grew anxious. "Elizabeth, are you listening? Don't take this lightly. Be careful and maybe hire some extra security. Always have someone with you and let Dean know where you are."
Elizabeth felt warmth in her heart. "Okay, Sarah, I'll remember."
Sarah sighed in relief. "I just don't want you to be careless. We haven't seen each other in a while. Let's set a time to meet. I miss you and the baby. I wonder when Pearl and Nolan will be back."
Thinking of her children lifted Elizabeth's spirits. "They'll be back soon. Once they're here, I'll call you. We can have dinner together."
Sarah smiled. "Sounds good. It's a date."
After hanging up, Elizabeth sat in quiet contemplation.
Was Matthew's call today also to help Margaret? After all, if she completely left Michael, Margaret would have a better chance with the man she had loved for so long.
Elizabeth scoffed internally at Matthew, thinking, 'To go this far for the woman he loves, Mr. Anderson sure has a big heart.'
At Stellar Enterprises, many employees had seen the video. Even those who hadn't were shown screenshots and comments by their colleagues.
The entire company was buzzing with whispers and messages about their boss's ex-wife, the beautiful CEO of The Jones Group.
They speculated on Michael's reaction—would he stand by Elizabeth and suppress the online rumors, or would he cut ties with her completely?
Daniel stepped out of his office and noticed the gossiping employees. His face darkened, and he gave a loud, stern cough.
"Is everyone so idle? The company pays you well to work, not to gossip. Did your universities train you to spread rumors behind people's backs?"
